"Sounds like business as usual, I suppose." Karie comments. "Although, I more or less did my best to see the Oculoids through to the end, and I did, so sometimes I feel out of place hearing about other people's experiences. Gods, am I glad they're nothing but memories now." Karie grins, feeling pleased with herself for once in what felt like a millennium.

"Care to share the story, with us Hypothetical Heroes?"
"Unless it was a veteran of Heroica, which, it was."

"Which one?"
"Sad to say that's somewhat true." Karie comments. "The only reason I sleep in a house and not in an apartment or in the hall is mainly because I work with another organization. And that's all I'm going to say." Karie grins cheekily, enjoying leading people on.

Lind shrugged, intentionally looking disinterested.

"The Guild Of Real Estate Agents?"

"I think I took a course in that..."

"The Guild Of Real Estate Agents?"

Karie laughs. "No, but we're just about as shady as those guys!" She winks playfully at Terry.

Lind shrugged, intentionally looking disinterested.

"I think I took a course in that..."

"Pfft. I do care, actually. Talk to your buddy Johon. He can tell you all about it. He was there, and he wasn't the only... well, he wasn't the only one to screw me over. A lot of people's true colours came through that quest and his," Karie points at Johon, "was one of them."

"Beats me. Sand Queen, or whatever her name is, I believe. I merely came back here, looked under my name, and say I had been awarded a lovely new title."

"I think I took a course in that..."

"Was it an interesting one?"

I shrug.

"Honestly, lady, you don't need to be part of secret organization to own a house... Although good to hear you're part of a cult or something."

"Sounds like you had a bad time back there... Any other heroes or people I should watch out for?"

"You should try Munchkin, Munchkin, and Munchkin. You think your group is clever, you should see those guys. The rules they've lawyered..."

"Business contact, not buddy."

"It's not a cult. We're a Town Watch subsidiary." Karie crosses her arms. "And we're a lot better than the watch, thank you very much. What I'm getting at is the pay Heroican's make varies. I'm not the rule, I'm the exception."

Karie shakes her head gladly. "Lawrence Boomingham is a boisterous prick. Avoid him and anyone he hangs out with. Dyric Rone is a self entitled, self righteous traitor who thinks he's right no matter what, and I suppose Thothwick, that ignorant metasimian, although I haven't heard head nor tail from him in a while. Good riddance to bad garbage I say."

"I'll keep that in mind about...Shoutingham, and this Rone person. Although, I'd point out that probably most of us think we're right no matter what." Edited by Lind Whisperer

"Yeah, but that goes into this stafff... Ain't gonna sell it, 'specially if we fight more dinosaurs.

"Well there you go, that's more than you had before. Wealth isn't all gold and jewels, sweetheart."

Besides, you were thinking the same thing, unless Moon Elves just pensively bite their finger out of nowhere."

"It's unfortunate that some people seem to only be in Heroica as a way of supporting themselves. I mean, these days if you are rogue and are not rolling in cash, you've got to be doing something wrong.

Jinnipher frowned, but didn't say anything except, "I'll take the money where I can get it. That being said, I might take you up on your offer gramps. Mead isn't cheap and Scheherezade won't let you take the free stuff with you." So speaking, she drinks the remains of her mug.

I am somewhat taken aback by Jinnipher's tone.

"For what purpose did you join Heroica, may I ask?"

Another frown, and narrowed eyes. "Look, I've been here a long time, probably even longer than you, old timer. Since I asked you first and you avoided the question, I can only assume that you haven't really done all that many great things. Why else would someone your age still be here, doing small jobs? A sense of fulfillment, perhaps? If you haven't got it yet then I don't think you ever will. Not in this business. By now you should have realized life as a hired sword is hardly morally rewarding."

"Me? Like I said before, I'll take the money when it comes." She crossed her arms in an unconvincing way and stuck her nose in the air.

"Or, if they felled a great opponent, a person might take on their opponent's name, as a sort of trophy."

"Hmm...So that'd be 170 gold then, for Black Knight's Armor, and 51 gold for Swift Boots?"

[color-#800000]"If the opponent was worth taking the name of, it was probably a mistake to fell him and if you felled him, it's probably a mistake to take his name. And yes, if their prices are 200 and 60 gold respectively, then that would be what they come to."[/color]

"Unless it was a veteran of Heroica, which, it was."

I shrug. "I suppose."

"Sad to say that's somewhat true." Karie comments. "The only reason I sleep in a house and not in an apartment or in the hall is mainly because I work with another organization. And that's all I'm going to say."

"I'm guessing the Wolfgang then. Their supporters are growing bolder and bolder. There once was a time when you wouldn't have been able to state your affection for them openly in the hall. I suppose they are becoming accepted now...unfortunately."

"Wow, you've got a lot of bitterness against a lot of people. Do you have actual reasons for that beyond wild accusations at prejudice? Prejudice isn't always a bad thing, you know? There can be a lot of "good" reasons for problems cropping up between parties, just make sure that you're not basing your judgement of people because of an occasional slip they make."

"If you are interested and have the time, I will gladly recount some tales. Remember, though, heroing is not about the hero at all, but about those who were affected by the actions of the hero. Sometimes small actions can perform great deeds for others. For instance, Heroica is dependent on the marketplace. However, the marketplace would cease to exist in all likelihood if it had not been saved from ruin by me and a few other heroes. In such a way a relatively small action on my part is helping all those who heroica assists these days. Being a hero is not about getting anything out of the job, it's about what you can give."

Jinnipher rolled her eyes and ordered another mead. "Well it looks like no one has anywhere to go for a while."

Karie huffs. "Are the Wolfgang a Watch subsidiary? No. Open your ears before assuming."

Karie shakes her head, looking ready to leave before remembering she had business. "It doesn't matter. Pretzel, me and you have business. Important business. Shall we move to a separate table? Better yet, why don't we go someplace else, my treat?"

"Business? What kind of business?"

Slowly, I get up from the table, uncertain whether I wanted to follow the painted musician.

"I know how much you hate demons, Pretzel, and I have news that might interest you." Karie stands up, hoisting her guitar with her. "I don't want to start blathering in here though. You coming?"

"I don't know, Eubric is a pretty big place... full of all sorts of people. Mercenaries, poor people, writers, artists, mages, snipers, lunatics... There must be something fun to do in Eubric besides sitting around here drinking mead, right?"

"There's the Arena, but it's been down for maintenance since before I was a hero..."

Mortimer slowly strides back into the hall, his shoulders tense. He stops by the bar, ordering a tall drink, and shuffles his way to a corner to nurse it, his eyes locked on the contents of the glass between sips.

Jinnipher watched Pretzel go. "Looks like I was wrong on that one." She turned to Terry. "Nowhere else has free booze, so here I am. What's your idea of fun, anyway? There can't be too much to do on the farm."

"We would play this game where you take a ball and a plank, and someone throws the ball at you, and you have to whack it with the plank, right? And then you had to run around the circle 'fore someone could pick up the ball you hit and chuck it at you. It's fun, really..."

"Ah, yes - plankball was what we called it in my neck of the woods. Hmm, but I don't know if we have enough players...

I think there's a bit of a park over in Way's End that's the right size for it - but I don't know if we could get permission to use it..."

OoC: Anyone want to draft up some rules for playing, and PM/Group PM Sandy about the group's possibly starting a Plankball thread, a la a vaguely similar in concept idea to the Arena? I get that it was just a throwaway comment, but it actually could be a pretty fun idea - and definitely a lot more fun than just sitting around, commenting every few days about "Gee, still no new quests...".

I don't think that's necessary.

"Y'know, first time I saw the map for Eubric, I thought Way's End was a pretty ominous sounding place. Granted, it's just a bunch of houses and a park, but still..."

"Oh, you've been there? I've only seen it on the map."

Both.

"I went through a little bit of it, but to be fair, its not very different than the rest of Eubric - poor houses, bars, and weird temples. Oh, and docks, but there's no water at Way's End, so there are no docks..."
