"What else woulda she done? Pulled out her own, guaranteeing you would strike her? Eat the blade? What did ya expect?"

"I was expecting her to answer a perfectly reasonable question - e.g., answering exactly why she traded a man's life-force with a demon for food."

[Palathadric]

I am left utterly bewildered by the scene.

"How odd. She refuses to admit to worshiping demons, but states plainly that she used a man for an 'experiment.' What kind of experiment. Perhaps we're all reading into this too much and she's just trying to sound scary. She's practically a kid. What do you make of her, Karie? As dangerous as she sounds or as dangerous as she looks?"

Karie taps her guitar, frowning. "I think her lack of cooperation tells us everything one would like to know. She's hiding something. She told me to my face she sacrificed someone to a demon, and she said this to Throlar as well." Karie run her hands through her hair, trying to come up with a solution. "We'll need to watch her. This hall isn't safe with her around. I may not look the sort, Pretzel, but I have a particular disdain for demons.

I'm going to be honest. I know a bit about demons, but I don't feel like I know the full extent on how to deal with them. I'd like you to assist me on how to take on demons."

Karie took a deep breath.

"Thanks, Pretzel. I appreciate your support." She strapped her guitar to her back and paced. "Let's head back inside. I'm suddenly kind of thirsty." Karie walked back towards the door. It was getting cold.

[JimBee]

Seeing Lind draw that terrifying blade, Terry decides to step back in, hastily closing the doors behind him.

"They're forming a lynch mob outside there, Jinn, and they're talking about convincing some Sandman guy to let them use their room for the trial, and Lind drew this really huge fricking sword, and... I'm ranting, aren't I?"

Jinnipher shook her head. "Good old Sandman can handle himself. If Lind and company want to start a mob, so be it. As long as he's not being an idiot around me."

Kheyli returns to the hall, hovering up the stairs to the bar. She takes a seat next to Jinnipher. "Do I even wanna know what's going on?" she chuckles.

"No." She was silent for a moment, then looked to the door as the heroes trailed back in. She shook her head again. "Kids. If there really is someone going around trying to summon demons, Heroica Hall would be the worst place to do it. I doubt just anyone can summon something powerful enough to take us all on."

[K-Nut]

"I've seen a lynch or two in my life," she grimaces. "I thought the people of the free islands were more evolved than that. They certainly believe so. Eventually, you realize everyone's the same, deep down,"

"No." She was silent for a moment, then looked to the door as the heroes trailed back in. She shook her head again. "Kids. If there really is someone going around trying to summon demons, Heroica Hall would be the worst place to do it. I doubt just anyone can summon something powerful enough to take us all on."

"Yeah, it's not like the Hall's ever been under attack by a dangerous demonic creature before, that caused enough bloodshed to warrant people keeping an eye out for any chances of such an event re-occurring." Lind looked pointedly at Jinnipher.

Lind calmly sipped at a glass of water, making no effort to put his Netherwings away.

I approach Jinnipher.

"Since you mentioned being around the hall for a while. Do you know a certain 'Retak Ysp'?"

Jinnipher shook her head. "Good old Sandman can handle himself. If Lind and company want to start a mob, so be it. As long as he's not being an idiot around me."

"Oh, you know that Sandman guy too? Mutual friend?"

"Yeah, it's not like the Hall's ever been under attack by a dangerous demonic creature before, that caused enough bloodshed to warrant people keeping an eye out for any chances of such an event re-occurring." Lind looked pointedly at Jinnipher.

"No, it hasn't... right?"

"Something like that." She leaned forward and rested her chin on her hand and looked to be pondering something, with no expression indicating how she felt one way or the other.

"Oh, really? Then, since I don't know anything about how the Hall was invaded by demon-possessed heroes, intent on murdering or converting everyone in the Hall, why don't you fill us in? Hall records show you were there during that siege."

"Something like that." She leaned forward and rested her chin on her hand and looked to be pondering something, with no expression indicating how she felt one way or the other.

Not waiting for an invitation, I take a seat.

"Could you tell me a bit about what happened...then? You see, I worked at Heroica for years, but then left for a while to sort out some issues in a village...it's a long story. When I returned, just a few short years ago, much had changed. Were you around when the change occurred. I was informed there was some sort of clean sweep...so to speak."

[K-Nut]

"What is that supposed to mean? I'm nothing like these amateurs"

"Nah, but you've seen enough of it too. Maybe it's just a human thing," she winks

Jinnipher waved her hand dismissively. "Not likely. Just don't worry about it, alright kiddo?"

"Oh, really? Then, since I don't know anything about how the Hall was invaded by demon-possessed heroes, intent on murdering or converting everyone in the Hall, why don't you fill us in? Hall records show you were there during that siege."

She crossed her arms defiantly, but her eyes had a faraway look in them. "The moral of the story is, don't be an idiot, and don't be a backstabbing traitor. I'll know a traitor when I see one, and I'll gladly behead any of you who so much as think about doing anything that compromises this organization. You're already halfway there, Lind."

She ordered yet another mead, rather feverishly. "Oh, and whatever you do, don't ever set foot on Doomsayer's Island."

"Wow! Rough times. After you got rid of the demon-carriers, what happened? Was everyone forced out or did you all leave in...frustration, should I say? Somebody really did try to go to Doomsayer's Island then...not a good idea."

[Endgame]

Jinnipher waved her hand dismissively. "Not likely. Just don't worry about it, alright kiddo?"

"Uh, okay, I wasn't worrying, I just... I don't get you. You've explained before, but I have a tough time putting the pieces together. Maybe I'm just slow."

"Did... Did that demon coming to the hall mess you up or something?"

"And that's why we have to be extra careful of anyone who might be aligned with demons. And shame on you for not being the first person here to recognize that."

"What was left of Heroica broke apart. No one had faith in an organization that could be so easily corrupted. Even the pay and free booze wasn't enough to keep some people around after that."

Jinnipher sipped her mead. "That was when they started letting just anyone in. Funny, you'd think the Veterans would up security, but I guess you have to start somewhere..."

"Uh, okay, I wasn't worrying, I just... I don't get you. You've explained before, but I have a tough time putting the pieces together. Maybe I'm just slow."

"Yes, yes it did come to 'mess us up'. Why else would a demon be killing heroes? Maybe you are slow."

"I didn't mean it like that, I'm saying that... If I was in your shoes at the time, I'd still be hurting, more entally than physically I 'spose, even years later. Maybe you're not, I dunno. That's between you and yourself."
