"They're good heroes. But it don't take much to be a bad king. Long as Heroica keeps doin' what it's doin', things'll turn out fine, I guess." Atramor shrugs. "I mean, at worst, whoever comes out on top goes corrupt and we go and take him or her out. Guess we'll just to have to see. Who ya' backin'? 'Free' City's not gonna last much longer, best pick a side while ya' can."

Karie scoffs. "Well, I wouldn't say that about everyone here, but some of the people here aren't complete megablocks." Karie takes another drink of the rum, noting it's spice. "Who am I backing? None of them. I don't like any of them. I like the Zeigfrieds for the most part, but I can't stand dealing with the Hinckwells. I never cared for the Shadeux and their lot, and Ulric... I've got issues with Ulric, despite agreeing with some of his stances. It's complicated."

"Well, to cut a long story short, I saved him. He was reduced to little more than a Flameskull, albeit a super-smart, super-funny one, and I... well..."

The Elf suddenly found himself wrapped up by two happy arms.

"Warlen! How's it going? How were the Fields?"

Karie scoffs. "Well, I wouldn't say that about everyone here, but some of the people here aren't complete megablocks." Karie takes another drink of the rum, noting it's spice. "Who am I backing? Warlen looked up at the munchkin, the surprise on his face doing nothing to distract from how conspicuous the scar on it was.

"Lind! Fine, I guess. Had to leave early, though, Farmer Mac went missing."

"Awesome! How far did y'all make into them? Shame about Farmer Mac..."

The Black Knight squinted. "Huh! That's a nice scar - memento of the Fields, or of something else?"

Atramor shrugged.

"I can appreciate that. But at the end of the day, I don't think this is a war even Heroica can stop. Someone's going to come out on top, one way or another. May as well be the people I know best."

Avalanche notices the winged figure approaching them, "Six battles. Not much, compared to my previous expedition."

Yes, we were both there at the end. I had forgotten that, remembering only those that I'd traveled there with, none of whom are still with us.

And yes, what choice was there for me but the alliance. Lorcan is the only person who has support at the moment, I expect he will represent them.

"Do ya believe he will bring change to the city, or will he simply allow the same practices to continue? Can't see how lettin' the establishment stay in power's goin' to yield any meaningful change."

"Are you an expert in avian species, sir? I, um, am kind of wondering why there's a crow around here. We don't have a bird infestation, do we?" Annienal asked, looking up at the rafters.

"I've had my fair share of conversations with the species. He probably belongs to one of the heroes, ya've seen the influx of fluffy and feathery companions as of late, no?"

The dark bird fearlessly landed at Karie's table, invading the personal space of the heroes. It uttered a short croak-like rattle then blinked a few times as it looked at the heroes. It walked towards Atramor, jostling Karie's drink. The one with the big hat had something of interest on his person and the curious bird wanted to know exactly what it was.

Quest 144 is now up! Sorry for the delay!

"...Can a minor figure in the election quietly join in on this conversation, or is this private?"

"If you must."

Atramor shrugged.

"I can appreciate that. But at the end of the day, I don't think this is a war even Heroica can stop. Someone's going to come out on top, one way or another. May as well be the people I know best."

Karie takes a drink. "I joined this organization to find my fortune, not to back some political donkey's agenda."

Karie backed her drink away as the crow landed on the table. "I think it wants something off of you."

"If you must."

The Black Knight quietly nodded his thanks.

"You planning on running yourself, then?"

"Why y'all doing all this, anyway? Ain't this just gonna lead to war no matter what?"

"The current situation is going to lead to war eventually. At least this way, we have a chance at decent leadership - or in my case, leadership that's smart enough to take advice."

Magically, a scroll appears on the quest board. On it, it states:

Thank you for coming to Tridentia's aid once again, Heroes. I see two of you have returned to help, and thank you again to you both. Please meet us at the docks and we'll fill you in there.

-Captain Vernon Slate of The Golden Lotus

Chosen Heroes for Quest #146: Red is the Bloodiest Color

Annienal Anvar, Level 15 Mystic Knight (Kintobor)

Avalanche, Level 16 Raider (Dragonfire)

Warlen, Level 21 Mystic Knight (TheChosenMinifigure)

Calamity, Level 10 Mage (Scubacarrot)

I'll have the quest thread up in a few hours. Finish up any deals in the Hall/marketplace and let's have fun.

Avalanche glances at the quest-board and sees his name on the list. A lopsided grin breaking out on his face, he shoulders his pack and heads out of the Hall to the docks, ready for whatever new challenges he would face in the coming weeks.

Karie stifles a giggle as she hears Lind's response, but manages to keep quiet.

"Now you're just being grim. Why rush to warwhen we can put it off?"

"That's not what leadership does, kid. Leaders dish out the advice."

Karie takes a drink. "I joined this organization to find my fortune, not to back some political donkey's agenda."

"Aye. That's how I ended up here. Now look at this mess. I've flipped so many countries on their head I can't keep 'em straight. Heroica does terrible things to your sense of self-servin' greed, lemme tell ya'." Atramor shook his head melodramatically and swigged his last mouthful of rum.

Karie stifles a giggle as she hears Lind's response, but manages to keep quiet.

"I take advice from people that have proved they're capable of giving good advice. Like you - you're a bit rough around the edges, but you've got a good head on your shoulders."

"Now you're just being grim. Why rush to warwhen we can put it off?"

"We're not rushing to war. But it's still coming. Ulric's mastering his forces below us, Sungold's...doing whatever they're doing - war's coming. Sitting around won't put it off, it'll just leave us that much less prepared when it comes."

"That's not what leadership does, kid. Leaders dish out the advice."

"That's an advisor. Leading an entire kingdom - or even a town - is a different matter. One person can't know this entire city by themselves."

"So - why exactly are you backing the Ji Pei dynasty? I noticed your name on their roster."

Boris sits by one of the windows watching the snow fall outside, "Wisdom and royalty are not exclusive, good sir."

Entering the hall after the rather pleasantly-ending quest, I return to see a less-than-pleasant debate going on in the hall over politics.

Pulling up a chair close enough to listen in on the debate if it gets interesting, I write a letter...

Posted

Hours after sending my letter, I receive a package containing an amulet of the Wolfgang. I gaze at it for a moment and then silently slip it into an inner fold of my cloak.

I won't be wearing my support on my shoulders, I think.

The Hall doors slammed open to let a cold draft in as a slender figure strode in. The noise disrupted an otherwise silent tavern. Anyone still asleep would have surely been woken up by the second sound of the doors slamming shut. Jinnipher made her way to the bar where she immediately began to enjoy a hot brandy cider. It wasn't her regular drink of choice, but the cold and dreary weather warranted something to warm the stomach and spirit.
