Jinnipher, perhaps having been too drunk to answer or otherwise just tired of Terry's endless questions, sought a corner chair to curl up in for a few hours. She is woken up by a crowd. She rose grumpily and shuffled over to see what the commotion was.

"So, who's our new Grand Poobahs running the various factions? Certainly someone with standards, I hope."

"So long as you didn't vote for Lind." The Moon Elf butts in. "Send your husband my regards, I hope he is finding good use out of that sword. As much as he can, anyway - what good is a sword without a shield?"

She grimaced, looking at Sarge with false enthusiasm. "Oh joy! My favourite drunken bum back from the ends of the earth!" Karie frowned. "What are you and your friends going to do, liquor yourselves up until you beat me? Like that's going to end well for you." She scoffed.

Sarge sniggered at Karie's arrogant sarcasm. These green kids always thought they sounded so clever. "Don't need liquor to beat your sorry a rse sore. I'm a sober man now" he beat his chest and nodded "Angel Orphaniel put some good into me" after a pause Jon smirked and looked her straight in the eye with a coy smile. She had all the sass and insolence of Emily, but none of her charm. "You could do with some booze yourself lass. If I were a younger man I'd buy you a drink; Molotov cocktail. Overarm not stirred." The old man chuckled at his own joke and patteded his thighs then leant back in his now turned chair and looked to Pretzel and Eric. He looked back at the ginger woman and stroked his chin, eyes serious and face deadpan; then spoke in monotone.

"I bet you just returned from saving the oh so good people of Eubric, eh? Or busking in the slums to lighten the sorry mood."

"A molotov cocktail? That sounds... Uh, not bad. Why would you throw it at her?"

Karie exhaled as she turned to the young mage. "I'll explain it to you later."

"I bet you just returned from saving the oh so good people of Eubric, eh? Or busking in the slums to lighten the sorry mood."

Karie rolled her eyes. She wasn't going to play into Sarge's little games. "I'd advise you to watch your tongue, Sarge. I'm not the same woman who stepped into this hall three years ago. You can try to bully me about, but it's not going to work, because I've been through worse than a greying, heckling old man." Karie irritably walks away.

A dirty man in a leather jacket rushes into the hall, closes the door behind him, and leans on it while catching his breath for a moment as several people stare at him in surprise. He is of below average height and has a badly trimmed beard. At first glance, not many of people would guess that Hunkan is a dwarf.

Jinnipher seemed to be the only one around at the time that a newcomer entered. She looked over her shoulder.

"You're trailing in stink and mud. This is no shelter for bums."

"'Ullo, Mssr. Dwarf."

Karie completely ignores the new person as he enters the hall, focusing on her guitar and the sheet music in front of her. She takes a sip of alcohol before looking around.

"Where's that draft coming from? Wait, someone new showed up, didn't they?" Karie proceeds to strum her guitar to the tune of "Movin' Right Along" before stopping and checking the notes.

"So long as you didn't vote for Lind." The Moon Elf butts in. "Send your husband my regards, I hope he is finding good use out of that sword. As much as he can, anyway - what good is a sword without a shield?"

Karie tips her invisible hat. "Much appreciated. Tell the new guy I've got jack all to do and need someone to pass the time with if he's up for a conversation.

Speaking of gifts, I need a hat..."

"Dunno how anyone gets by without one."

Atramor shifting his own hat, for now ignoring the snotty elf heckling the newcomer.

"May I enquire about where you got yours?" Karie asked, moving her chair over. "Yours is a little bit wide in the brim, but I adore the colour."

"We wouldn't need to worry about passing the time if the author of that quest posting would show up. Tch, typical Heroica, even the veterans can't be held accountable. Maybe he chickened out already."

"Give it a few minutes, he'll show."

"It's been two weeks." She shoved the water away and downed some mead instead.

"This is maybe half original, had to get it patched up after a rough bout with a necromancer on an island." Atramor pulled off his hat and set it on the table which it dominated, showing off his wicked dreads. "Ah, hell, lemme think. Was 'round ten years ago now, just gettin' out of the pirating life and ended up in the ass-end of the Low Kingdoms. Nearest king was dying, and the local lord got it in his head that he could take over. Needed to get into the man's vault, get his deeds, money, but above all else the crown, which was a big deal in that kingdom. Well, he was lucky enough the best lock-picker in the south seas had rolled into town."

"What he didn't mention was the dying king had all sorts of vultures pickin' at his lands, his people, and once I got inside his vault, it was pretty obvious the valuable stuff was gone, too. The place was all ancient wardrobes and dusty, moth-eaten...somethin'. But it looked like nobody had been able to get into one particular box I found...it was more jewels than wood, 'bout the right size for a crown, and with a lock even I couldn't figure out. So I took the whole damn chest back to the lord, spent weeks tryin' to crack it. King died in that time...and the lord who hired me was pretty stumped when the prince showed up, crown and all, to take the throne."

"Turns out I had been crackin' a hat box. Old bastard had sent me into the king's closet."

"Never took jobs from nobles after that."

Karie snickers, looking amused. She shakes her head. "Gotta admit, that's pretty humiliating. Although, I doubt I'm going to go your route and break into a king's closet for something that nice." Karie feels the brim of the hat, admiring the fabric and craftsmanship.

...That being said, what kingdom was it? Because that is a nice hat..."

"Dunno. Probably gone by now. Low Kingdoms don't last long. Hell, the town I grew up in ain't even 'round anymore. Maybe it's for the best, in my experience the older a place is, the better chances it's, I dunno, infested with demons or somethin'." Atramor shrugs and sips his rum. "How long've you two been 'round the hall?"

"Three years. Not a whole lot of time, really, but a lot's changed since I first entered."

Hmm...From my perspective, it's going on two years, now. But the way time works around here, who's to know how long it's really been..."

"I thought you said - or I saw it somewhere - that you'd been a Hero before now..."

"I was. Your two years is nothing, especially compared to your very short life, kiddo."

"And yet, I've done more with those two years, then you've done with a very long life."
