"'Ullo, Mssr. Dwarf."

"You're trailing in stink and mud. This is no shelter for bums."

Hunkan dusts himself off. "Yes, hello. Sorry, I kind of got in trouble with some local criminals, so I hope it's okay if I hide out here for a while. I promise I won't be a burden."

Yes, what my fellow Crescent Rogue said..."

"And yet, I've done more with those two years, then you've done with a very long life."

Jinnipher threw her head back and laughed obnoxiously. "Hahahahaha! Keep dreaming kiddo!"

The moon elf collected herself to reply to the dwarf. "Listen, drifter. Not just anyone can come in here. This is Heroica Hall, for heroes like me. Some are more qualified for the title than others-" she shot a look Lind's way "-And if you can't handle a few pickpockets this is the wrong place for you. Besides, even if you really were to join you can't just show up. You need the Veteran's approval, although that might be easier than it used to be." More glances around the room.

She squints her eyes at the pirate. "Are you even a real hero, captain scruffy?"

Atramor sipped his drink. "More or less. Sounds like ya'd prefer to lean towards less."

"Did you see the man's hat? Only a real hero wears a hat like that."

"More of a Weapon Seller than a hero from my experience, though he is a reliable sword when the need requires. He always did strike me as being more mercenary than anything."

"-And some save a lot more kings from dragons than others."

"In my experience, it is usually more noble to save dragons from kings than kings from dragons. When kings are in danger from dragons, it's usually their own fault."

"Did you see the man's hat? Only a real hero wears a hat like that."

"I suppose calling someone a hero because of the hat they wear is about as easy as calling someone a hero because they call this hall their home."

The dwarf became exasperated. "They outnumbered me, that's all! I could have gotten the upper hand had they come at me one at a time." He draws his sword, which is covered in red smears. "This blood isn't mine. I think that proves that I am capable of defending myself." He swings his sword around before putting it away. "So where do I sign up to become a 'hero' like you lot?"

"First off, thank you for not kicking the door in. They're old, and I'm the one usually fixing it when it gets knocked off it's hinges." Karie bows thankfully to the newbie, grateful she doesn't need to spend another hour getting her hands dirty. "Secondly, if you're here to join Heroica, congratulations! You're already in. Pull up a chair and get something in you. I would, however, like to know what you think it means to be a "hero"." Karie puts her guitar away and straightens her posture. She flicks open her makeup mirror and begins touching up her face paint, looking back between herself and the new guy.

The dwarf sits down, feeling some respect for the minstrel already. "Finally, someone in here with some manners. Well, I'm not exactly sure, but from what I've seen, it involves doing favors, taking mercenary jobs, getting to hang out in this hall, and apparently," he glances at the elf, "being rude to non-heroes." He looks around and admires the architecture of the hall. "The whole deal doesn't sound so bad to me, to be honest."

What is normally my Summer trip down South just became my Winter one due to some health issues with the family I have living there. I apologize, but I'll have to push 147 back to February 26th. For those that have been waiting in the hall since the start of January, I am incredibly sorry about this. I should be able to maintain participation in any quests I'm on.

A young man approaches the hall with red on his sleeves, and a crossbow in his hand. He enters the facility in the most untheatrical fashion possible. He simply opens the door gently, steps in with light footsteps, and quietly closes it. He grabs a seat which was unoccupied, and takes a drink from a glass that seems to be abandoned.

"Finally? Oh, Jinnipher's given you some love I see." Karie grins cheekily. "She's just very proud. Don't let her get to you. She's honestly one of the more honourable people around here." She listens to the dwarf speak before continuing. "Nothing wrong with that response, although I was more wondering what you think it means to be a hero? Anyone can join Heroica, technically, but I wouldn't call everyone in this hall a "hero", per se."

"Or a pirate." Jinnipher eyed the Rogue Thief up and down. "You'd fit in better with the crowd down by the harbor."

"...Just don't expect anyone here to help you when you're dying. Quests here are foolish endeavors for the weak and inexperienced. You can even put your whole party in danger, just ask the bookworm over here." She tossed her head towards Lind.

" 'My people'. Right. If ya' really need an answer I s'pose anyone in the hall is 'my people'. This is what I do now."

"If ya' think I have some sort of outside agenda you're mistaken."

Quest? Kid dropped his drink and focused intently on the elf. And here I was thinking this was just another pub full of minstrels and bums. You mean to tell me there's adventures to be had here as well? He aimed his crossbow at nothing in particular and squinted. I'm generally horrible at those.

At least I imagine I would be. Where do I sign up?

Ezeran sighs and raises his voice so he could be heard over the double act of snoring provided by the symbiont and Torald. "It's common courtesy not to run around pointing your weapon at people you barely met." The trigger on the crossbow had suddenly been enveloped in a shroud of green mist producing a small evergreen plant blocking the trigger-mechanism. "Now put it away and I promise it will be okay once you really need it. My name is Ezeran by the way, glad to meet you."

Kid struggled with his immobilized crossbow for a bit before putting it back in his holster. Well that's unfortunate. I've always got a few party tricks with this thing, but I don't suppose your magic would count that as 'really needing it'. He held out his hand. The name's Kid. At least, that's what my parents called me. My friends, well, they call me Kid as well. So what exactly goes on in here? And what are these quests I keep hearing about?

"Nice to meet you, kid." The Black Knight shrugged. "We're mercs, basically."

Ezeran nods towards Lind. "There you have it! Ideologies and personal goals apart, that's the common purpose for all of us in here." The symbiont grumbled in its sleep throwing small droplets of highly acid saliva around Ezeran.

A "heroes for hire" sort of thing. How convenient! I'm awful short on gold. Say, what would I have to do to get into this sort of business? Edited by dum
