Waterbrick Down Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Skrall walked over to the bar, now was as good a time as any to satisfy his curiosity. "Tell me my good Scheherazade, that is your name no? How did ya come to be the manager of this fine establishment? I'm sure ya probably faced quite some opposition from the local business owners. Bye the way, ya mentioned yer lad Sham was the travelin' sort, does he come home much? And if it ain't to touchy a subject, what's become of the lad's father?" Quote
Sandy Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 He noticed she was talking to some scruffy Norseman. "Hey, Ellaria!" he called, hoping to get her attention. Ellaria turned as Tarn called her out. But seeing the dashing barbarian no longer made her heart flutter as much as it used to. Something had changed. Tarn asked her about fusing magical gems with weapons. She couldn't help but to roll her eyes a little. "You need to go to a smithy with your gem and your weapon. There's one recommended by Heroica at the Marketplace, kept by one Anwyl Smokebeard. He'll help you out. Now, was there something else? Quote

Bye the way, ya mentioned yer lad Sham was the travelin' sort, does he come home much? And if it ain't to touchy a subject, what's become of the lad's father?" The orc matron oggled the ogre suspiciously. "You're a persistent fellow, aren't you? Okay, since you seem willing to listen, I'll tell you my story. I was born to a couple of orcish slaves here in Eubric. They were killed during one of those slave mutinies you never hear talked about. I was just a wee lass back then, but I managed to find my way to the front door of this hall, where the saloon owner found me. He was a grumpy old man called Johnny Thunder, a retired champion of Heroica. Mr. Thunder took me under his wing and raised me. I've worked in this bar for my whole life, you see. When death came a'knocking for Old Johnny, I inherited the saloon. Of course back then many locals resented the idea of an orc owning anything within the city, but I found my place in Heroica." "It's now been almost fifty years from the day when I found my way here, hungry and shivering. I've seen all sorts of heroes - both wannabes and true ones - pass through those doors. My only son Sham... Well, he rarely comes here anymore. He wanted to know who his father was, but I couldn't bring myself to tell him. Nor will I tell it to you, lump. It's the one secret I do not wish to divulge." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 (edited) A single tear formed in Skrall's eye, but he quickly brushed it away. "I'm sorry fer yer loss ma'am, I too have know the loss of loved ones due to hate and bigotry. Yer a testament fer doin' things the honest and hard way and fer that ya have my respect. All my years I thought bein' an ogre gave me the right to strike back at others fer the wrong they'd done my people. Now that I've actually met some decent folks, things don't seem as bad as I first thought. But like yerself, I've seen many a terrible sight and little joy in my years, but if things continue the way they are, there may be hope yet, who knows, maybe one of these days one of my crackpot siblin's will land himself on one of those political ballots on the mainland." Noticing the glint in the bar maid's eyes, Skrall decided not to push further into to Sham's patronage and simply left it as was, "Well, if I ever should run into yer lad, I'll bid him hello for ya and tell him his mother loves him. Speakin' of love, got any thing to keep ol' Amadea and Melodion at bay, all the barbarians and elves seem to be droppin' like flies 'round here. Anyways, thank ya fer yer tale, now if you don't mind I'll take a braised duck over at the far table with a tankard of whatever that one-eyed barbarian called for a little bit ago." With that Skrall returned to his table and pondered upon Scheherazade's story while he waited for his meal. Edited October 13, 2011 by Waterbrick Down Quote

Etzel Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Nur's brow raised in curiosity as the cleric in white entered the Hall. He could see a glow radiating from the white cleric and felt an intense warmth as the man reached the top of the stairs. The dark mage was drawn to this cleric and without realizing it, his feet began walking toward him. Perhaps the light of this man could turn the ex-thief away from a life of wrongdoing for good. "Forgive me cleric but I must know your name." The mage-thief reached out and grabbed the cleric's arm to stop him. A white light emanated from Nur's eyes and mouth as he was assaulted with images featuring heroic acts of bravery, justice, and...Ennoc. En Sabah Nur managed to break contact and doubled over from the experience, exhausted. The cleric turned and saw the mage on his knees. En Sabah Nur looked up at the cleric with tears in his eyes and grinned. When Maurice had reached the top the stairs a dark man grabbed his arm and ask for his name. Before he had time to answer the man retched back with wide open eyes and mouth. When Maurice turned to him he saw the man on his knees with a strange expression in his face. "My name is Maurice Ratibor. Is something wrong?" Maurice was on his guard, he knew all sorts of people and creatures were to be found in Heroica and some you did best to avoid a fight with. Quote

"Just weak from hunger?" he thought to himself. Well, I guess it can be hard to find food around in the city these days but here at Heroica there seems to be plenty of it. I'm not sure if that man is speaking all the truth in this matter, better be careful. Maurice walked over to the other end of the bar and caught a loose phrase of someone talking about throwing weapons. What a stupid idea! he thought to himself. If you have a weapon you should always keep your hands on it, not go lobbying scimitars over at somebody. Quote

Perhaps it is better I do not fall for another hero. It would be unimaginably painful if either one of us got slain in a quest that the other one was not in, wouldn't it? You must worry about your Jess's well-being a lot, Haldor." "Okay Ellaria, I got it merged with my bow. What do you think? I have not paid much attention to your new weapon, could I see it?"
