Once more Henry entered the Hall, and, as usual, checking on the quest board about new quests. And indeed, there were two new quests. And, even more important, they were military quests rather than some mage quests. "Now that sounds good," Henry spoke under his breath. He signed up for both Quest #16 The Paladin Conquest and Quest #17 The Lions' Share.

While his father had been a mercanary, Henry knew about everything you could know about military stuff, that was what he was interested in, not some stupid riddles and mages. And even if they wouldn't take him, he had heard about some rebels mustering resistance against Lady Wren. He'd certainly love to see Wren again, too.

Henry smiled and sat down somewhere.

Alf writes his name on the sheet for quest 17:

Quest #17: The Lion's Share

Quest Master: Brickdoctor

Assignment: "The Brobric Elves are steadily driving back our Lion Knight allies along the northern coast of Uland. We've learned that they plan to use the abandoned Bric'Bay Fort to rest up and regroup before delivering a final strike. In order to maintain control of both ours and the Lion Knights' holdings in northern Uland, that fort must not fall into elven hands. Whoever controls the fort will be in position to control the majority of Uland. Getting to the fort before the elves is no problem, but we need help to hold it." -Commodore Martin Largus, Commander of the North Uland Trade Fleet, House of Hinckwell

Party Requirements: "We need a team of eight heroes to assist us in preparing defenses at Bric'Bay Fort. Preferably not previously hired by the Shadeaux, but due to that house's deception, we will not discriminate against the heroes of Quest 4."

Reward: 1,600 Gold to share and improved relations with the Hinckwells.

Sign-ups will close on Friday the 9th of December.

Soon, after, Alf realizes some familiar faces, then Dek'ra.

"Little cloak man! You went long quest! I went on quest too!"

Spotting a wave of heroes entering the hall again, Hybros joins those crowding around. He took a spot in between De'kra and the female mage, Cinna the Dark, he had heard her name. He addressed the shade first, the only one even remotely similar to Hybros himself. He was glad the shade had returned in one piece.

"De'kra, old friend. It's been a while, a very long time, yes," Hybros said. "You wouldn't believe what I've been through... but what happened on this quest of yours? Whispers of betrayal... by the Shadeaux?" Hybros thought back to his first quest of Heroica, and his encounter with Umbra. He took to disliking the bunch, being somewhat more honarable than other Rogues.

Hybros turned to Cinna next, knowing that she had been on the quest as well. He noted her amethyst-mounted staff. She must wield dark magic.

"Hello, I don't believe we've been acquainted yet," Hybros introduced himself, his episode in the cells of the Arena receding to the back of his mind. She was human, yes, but she had a gentle yet determined look about her. "From where do you come from?" The imp wondered if, she wielding darkness, came from darkness itself, like Hybros had.

IC: De'kra nodded as the older Rogue finished his questions. "Yes, Shadeaux manipulate Heroes and I. Heroes and I made to trigger war between Brobric Elves and Lion Knights, which make Crownies loose money and Shadeaux gain power. I thought Shadeaux might manipulate heroes and I of start, it why I sign up for quest in first place. The Shadeaux no deny Shadeaux thieves, but Crownies hide it. At least Shadeaux honest on methods. But I not think Shadeaux would create war to get power. War no good, I remember it...I think I planet shatter in war, it take 100,000 years for planet to heal..."

"Yes, but a thief, even if he admits it, is still a thief... and they deceived you. They never admitted that, did they?" Hybros noticed how much De'kra had changed since their last encounter. He had picked up basic language a little more, for one, and also seemed to have a better grasp on his surroundings in general. Hybros also noticed the slug-like creature accompanying the shade, eyeing it with interest.

IC: De'kra nodded and replied, "Yes, Shadeaux manipulate Heroes and I like...Iron Wolves. Heroes and I not aware of what was at stake at first, and in the end heroes and I still not sure how much heroes and I affect things. Heroes and I know we were use, heroes and I know heroes and I kill many foes, but heroes and I not ponder why enough. Heroes and I only follow heiarchy, and Uland lost. I no think I should help in Quest 17, or even other quests for a bit. I...not sure I trust I judgement now. I might need think hard about Quest 4, and try to learn of mistakes. First thing I learn, trust few n uest, even employer. Other heroes might okay, but I need to careful more. How you last quest happen?"

Hybros nodded. The shade's mind was clearly troubled... though as he new well, all wounds faded with time.

"Not well," he responded. "This woman... Wren, her name is. Pure evil. A demon, you might say. She posted the quest, hoping to turn good into evil by forcing us to fight each other, kill other good people... she collected this energy, chaos, she called it. I'm not sure what she'll use it for, but I don't think it's the last we'll be seeing of her. And, I was... held, for a very long time... in a dark place."

Hybros silently wondered if he should tell De'kra about his vision in the cell. He was very young, after all. Hybros did not want to frighten the young shade. He also wasn't sure he could trust anyone else with such things...

IC: De'kra nodded sadly and stroked the slug. Finally he clicked, "Heroica need more carefully choose quests, make sure quest isn't trap or evil plan. Chaos I not familar with, but I remember something back home; kind of creature. Creatures once were like I friend here, but evil people modify it to drain people of light. People who lose light lose good, become evil. But drain people were flaw and crazy, people need both light and dark to exist sane. I not sure if those creatures connect to Wren or helpful at al. But Wren, I heard green skin who run tavern mention her. Wren was once hero, but never succeed in quests. You think countless failures broke her mind? Or might all failures have exist plan of her, as part of master scheme? Or something else?"

Hybros glances at the slug again. "Interesting..." he said in response to De'kra's explanation. "I don't know what makes her evil... I just know she's very cunning. I hope you never have to face her, De'kra, though someone will have to stop her someday."

Hybros then reflected on his purpose here. To do good, yes, but how could he with so much evil surrounding Eubric and the nearby lands? Hybros glances at the shade again. What was his purpose? Such confusion... Hybros hoped that De'kra would find answers here.

"Hey, De'kra! Have you been enjoying your time back in Heroica Hall? I sure have! Except there is no one to talk to. :sceptic: "

Atramor rubs his chin, secluded in one corner of the bar. He looked fine - that is, on the outside. On the inside, he was panicking wildly. The urge to steal, pirate, and otherwise hang out with unsavory characters was...fading. McCafferey pecked at his fingers irritatingly - he scratched the chicken behind the neck, thoughts straying off. He took a heavy sip of rum, the fact that his former lifestyle seemed all too distant and no longer relevant hitting him like a Mockthril Club.

OOC : Shadeaux's Trigger is De'kra's name for the heroes of Quest 4

IC: De'kra sighed and clicked, "Yes, heroes will one day fight Wren, it need exist." The shade flinched a little as the sun's rays broke the clouds, and struck him in the back. That light, lost hurting him. The shade still didn't know why he hated the stars and felt betrayed by the sun, but his memory was returning, bits and pieces came back every day. One day he would know the truth of the matter.

As the ranger approached De'kra clicked, "It quiet for moment, but it better other over loud and not hear you self think. Of way, you know might some of Shadeaux's Trigger plan to work on Quest 17?"

It had been a long time since Eric was last in the hall, he hadn't been there since the end of the Arena Quest. Eric spent most of his time outdoors, roaming through Eubric port and the surrounding countryside, honing his skills and searching for sailors or kinsmen who could bring him news on his homeland.

As Eric stepped inside, he noticed people running back and forth to the Questboard. Apparently, two new Quests had been added, each looking for eager Heroes to help out. Eric stepped towards the board and quickly read the assignments. "Hah, fighting in the name of Ennoc? You've got to be kidding me. Ennoc is no deity of mine, his weak Light does not reach North."

The Nord carefully thought about adding his name to the list for Quest #17. He didn't really trust the Hinckwells and in his opinion, he thought their power was waning. So why side with a losing house? On the other hand, he had been hired by them before, so maybe he might get hired again easier now. Plus, every change for a good brawl is as good as any. After consideration, Eric added his name to the list. The Barbarian turned and went for the bar.

Eric sign up for Quest #17: The Lion's Share.

His voice having been lost amongst all the conversations happening in the bar, Thormanil decides to just fork over the extra gold and make all his purchases in the market. On his way out of the Hall, he scrawls his name on the sign-up sheets for Quests 14, 15, and 16. His hand hovered over the list for The Lion's Share, but for the time being, his allegiance was with the Shadeaux. Or, at least, he wasn't looking to jump ship so readily. There were plenty of other heroes who would leap at the chance to help the Hinckwells, so why not let them clean up the mess he'd just caused? Heck, if they do a good enough job of spoiling the plans of the Shadeaux, the House might find need of his assistance again in the future.

Now having stood at the Quest Board for quite a length, he snapped back to the moment and proceeded towards the Market.

"Hey Tomas, that sure was a rough battle, eh? I'm glad we all pulled through though. I do wonder if we made the right decision in the end, of course there's no way to take that back now. Even though he royally tricked us, it was pretty nice that Mr.Shawe forgot to take back those weapons he loaned us - or were they part of the payment? We've done so much traveling since I signed up for the quest, I can hardly remember now." She laughs softly.

"I seem to remember that they were part of the payment. Either way, the weapons are ours now."

De'kra nodded at the cleric, and approached the table. "What leader think happen now?" asked the shade, "and why no heroes worry about war? Hall feel same...as usual, it no great panic. Heroes not of Shadeaux's Trigger not know of war yet?"

"I'm not sure if the other heroes even know of the war yet. It's only begun recently, so I wouldn't be surprised if the others have yet to hear of it."

IC: De'kra nods at the leader of the Shadeaux's Trigger, even as Tomas readied himself for the next quest. The shade picked himself up and walked deeper into the hall. He had caught wind of all the many adventures that had gone on during Quest 4, especially the sad tale of Quest 10. Although the Mage redeemed himself from the failed Uest 6 by epically winning a battle after all his allies had fallen, the whole adventure was tarnihed by the death of an innocent. An innocent that only one person realized was missing. Uland was close to home in some ways, but that, that just felt wrong to De'kra. Eubric was wrong, the houses were wrong, perhaps even this world of Olegia was wrong.

IC: De'kra sighs and clicked, "Heroes and I on I quest...made mistakes. Heroes and I were manipulated of Shadeaux to make war between Lion Knights and Brobric Elves. Shadeaux become rich, sell weapons to both armies. Many will die only to make Shadeaux stronger other Crownies. Heroes and I succeed quest, but Uland lost."
