Flipz Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 The actual plot is nothing alike, but that cave layout looks creepily similar to the layout for the quest I've been planning. Well, there are only so many aesthetically pleasing cave layouts possible for a given number of rooms... Quote
Kintobor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I think this is really cool! I think the time limit makes it much more of a test of a players ability than the fields, which has become a little disheartening, seeing as how there are no more Threshold monsters. That and it ensures that the party will leave, instead of disappear for five months. That's one of the reasons I don't like the fields, it just goes on. Here, it's more time trial oriented, something I might actually enjoy. I'd get in contact with other QM's and plan the boss battles with them, to ensure their visions kept. I'd also recommend getting in touch with someone and build the sets with actual bricks, maybe even bring an NPC back as the quest giver. I'd love to help, Endgame if you need photos. Quote

The Fields are getting an extra mechanic next run. It'll be amping up the challenge, as long as the party's willing. And that's not an issue with the Fields, it's always the choice of the party to keep on going, don't forget. Quote
Palathadric Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Great quest, CMP. I wish Pretzel could have been on it to help Maurice beat some Paladin sense into Thalion, and perhaps a Cross of Light into Hybros. Quote
Endgame Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Well, there are only so many aesthetically pleasing cave layouts possible for a given number of rooms... The first tier may be something like that in terms of layout, but that is simply a rush job I made. Differences form the fields: -Time limit (though apparently that is getting fixed?) -All bosses, higher difficulty -Various merchants to provide NPC chit-chat, as well as boss banter -Roleplaying oppurtunities via the concept of revisiting memories -The caves have an actual story to them, as will be revealed -More stage based: 4 stages (Perhaps plus one super ultra giga uber boss?) -Hidden passages. -Bosses will be added to tiers from time to time. Also, in terms of sets: I'll probably use PovRay to render my sets. For the not-tier bosses, instead of having an actual set portraying them, each boss will have their own banner, featuring a dramtic silhouette of them, their main features highlighted and glowing, etc. Tier bosses get a banner plus a set depicting them. I will be contacting QMs whenever I use their bosses - they will be shown the general battle (I will scale battles up if you enter a tier you're overleveled for!) as well as their placement on the map and any variations for allowing me to remix their character's battles. Palathadric Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Don't worry about it, Endgame! You can use the bosses I've made thus far without contacting me. Quote

While I enjoy the enthusiasm, I'm not 100% sure as to what this brings to the RPG? We have quests which serve as stories in which players advance a narrative and then we have the fields in which players advance the stats of their characters. It's different from the fields, but it seems to serve the same purpose. Quote
JimBee Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Thanks for the last bit with Zysltra, Pie! I'm not sure how to go about performing that interaction, but it will most likely take place "off-screen". Quote
Sandy Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Endgame, as much as I like your enthusiasm, would you please contact me about this boss rush thing before announcing it as an upcoming feature? Sandy, those pictures and sceneries and NPCs are phenomenomenal! I can't stop looking at the pictures. Just great. Amma really has to get on a Marketplace quest.... (not just because of the pictures...) Thank you, I thrive to do my best. Quote
Endgame Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Simply throwing the idea out there to get criticism before I actually start putting more thought into it. If it came off as saying it was an upcoming thing, my apologies. Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Thank you, I thrive to do my best. Where are these? What and where have I missed? Edited October 12, 2013 by Pyrovisionary Quote

Capt.JohnPaul Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I'm thinking of doing a Halloween themed quest for the end of this month. Does anyone think it would be a nice thing to have a mechanic where each "night" the heroes can go around the town asking for items or something? Maybe they have a random chance of getting a consumable or being attacked. However, the draw back of this "free stuff" is that if they do get attacked, if they win the small battle that follows, they will not get experience. Quote
Kintobor Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I think something like this was done aaaaaaaaaaall the way back in quest 4, although I could be wrong. Quote
Duvors Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I think something like this was done aaaaaaaaaaall the way back in quest 4, although I could be wrong. Correct, it'll be good reference for such a quest. Quote
Flipz Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 About a month ago I was tossing around ideas for a Christmas Special Quest, I figure for me if I start on it now it should be for Christmas 2015. Also, Doc: *poke* *poke* Quote

swils Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I don't recall the heroes asking the pogs for anything. Maybe I need to reread the quest. It was the day/night mechanic, mostly. While traveling, there was a chance we'd get attacked. This sounds like it'd be an interesting spin off of the idea. Quote

Yes (as someone whose hero was in the Quest I should know... ) there was a small halloween related thing during Quest 4 but it wasn't very large or related to the plot of the quest. Quote
Flipz Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hey, can I get a quick show of hands of Whovians in Heroica? (Preferably those with set-building skills--Eubric, specifically.) Quote
Rumble Strike Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Well, you have seen the extent of my set building skills! But yes, one might consider me a Whovian. Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hey, can I get a quick show of hands of Whovians in Heroica? (Preferably those with set-building skills--Eubric, specifically.) I am a fan of Doctor Who, though my building skills aren't all that impressive currently. Quote
Scorpiox Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hey, can I get a quick show of hands of Whovians in Heroica? (Preferably those with set-building skills--Eubric, specifically.) I can't build sets for toffee, but you can count me as a fan of Doctor Who. Quote
Kintobor Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Nope! Out of all the things you could ask for assistance for, you ask for Dr. Who! If it was, say, Zelda, or Trailer Park Boys, or MLP, yeah, I could help you. But Dr. Who, I've seen all of one episode and a few bloopers and clips. I feel so alone! I'll probably pick up with the... what is it, twelfth doctor you guys are on, now? Quote
