Sandy Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Hey, can I get a quick show of hands of Whovians in Heroica? (Preferably those with set-building skills--Eubric, specifically.) Post-relaunch Whovian here! Also #1 fan of Donna. Quote
Kintobor Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I feel... so alone. Really digging the bar, Sandy. What race are inside? Quote
Endgame Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Don't worry, Kintobor. I only use my TV for the news (Which I am beginning to regret listening to.) and vidya games. The fact that the party can return to Eubric at any time is really interesting, actually. Quote
Scorpiox Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I'll probably pick up with the... what is it, twelfth doctor you guys are on, now? With a new Doctor coming up soon... there's never been a better time to start. If you watch a whole episode, I promise that I will do the same with My Little Pony. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Post-relaunch Whovian here! Also #1 fan of Donna. I'm a member of the Doctor Who Club at my College! Also a Huge fan of Doctor-Donna! (Although my biggest two loves are Tennant (the reason I got into the show in the first place), and Barrowman, the sexiest man alive. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

I love the first four doctors from the classic series, but everything after that... .As for set building skills, . Quote
PsyKater Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Only take Amma with you in the Fields if you are leaving in November again. She should really meet Elphaba again. Quote
Endgame Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Random question: What type of "alternate battle" (Dastan Mechanics, Brickdoctor's Hexagon Battles, Continuous Battle, Multi-Pronged Assault (The first battle of 75)) do you think is best for large battles? Personally, I love the concept of a multi-prong battle - it completely alters a battle without really changing the battle system itself, just a single rule. Definitely am going to have to use it in the future. Quote
CMP Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Random question: What type of "alternate battle" (Dastan Mechanics, Brickdoctor's Hexagon Battles, Continuous Battle, Multi-Pronged Assault (The first battle of 75)) do you think is best for large battles? Too broad a question. Consider the circumstances of the battle first. Are the heroes huddling up in preparation for an invasion, are they on the opposite side of such a situation, are they being ambushed, etc. Quote
Endgame Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) I would disagree. Although The Hex Battles are indeed pretty specific, I could see the final battle of Dastan, as an example, working out as all three types of battles. The same could be said for the first battle of 75 - it could also work as continuous battle (enemies pouring in, still fitting the ambush theme of the encounter) and even as a Dastan Battle without changing the concept or circumstances heavily at all. CMP Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Then I can't help you decide, they're all quite enjoyable. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Dastan Final Battle mechanics are the same as hex mechanics, just with different units and different types of spaces. Both the Dastan Final Battle and the Hex Battles are directly developed from the Bric'bay Fort Battles. Quote

And they're more different than you realize. Dastan Battle involves enemies moving around to complete an objective. And multi-prong battles may not apply in like an army vs army scenario like the hex battle are designed for. Quote

For example, I know that hex/Dastan battles are signifigantly harder to run for both heroes and QM, but if they are enjoyable then I'd have no problem making one down the line. I've never got to experience any of them, so I can't really form a solid opinion on any of those styles. Edited October 18, 2013 by Endgame Quote

Definitely am going to have to use it in the future. The multi-prong thing is good for small battles, but it would get to confusing for large battles or sieges with massive amounts of troops being fielded by both sides, the siege mechanic introduced in the first Paladin Order quest might also be used again at some point, I see a lot of potential in that. Both the Dastan Final Battle and the Hex Battles are directly developed from the Bric'bay Fort Battles. Hex battle -combat is between units in adjoining spaces Dastan final battle -combat is between units in the same space Hex -one unit per space, units cannot move through one another DFB -multiple units per space Hex -combat dice roll is modified. No shields DFB - shield roll affects all within defined space Hex -no penalty for moving away from combat DFB -unengaged enemies can free hit units leaving I'd say they're actually quite different strategy-wise, despite having a similar photoshop set up. Flare Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Nope! Out of all the things you could ask for assistance for, you ask for Dr. Who! If it was, say, Zelda, or Trailer Park Boys, or MLP, yeah, I could help you. But Dr. Who, I've seen all of one episode and a few bloopers and clips. I feel so alone! I'll probably pick up with the... what is it, twelfth doctor you guys are on, now? I haven't even seen one episode Quote
Flare Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Same here. Alright, now we're a club of three of Dr.Who-rejects Quote
Kintobor Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Alright, now we're a club of three of Dr.Who-rejects Starring Benji, Palathadric, and Kintobor in "TARDIS and Tardiness". Quote
Rumble Strike Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I did like the multi-pronged battle. In roleplay terms it gave a very good feeling of "us against many" and also meant that some strategy was called for when deciding who to attack, for AoE attacks etc. Quote
Palathadric Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Our clubs cooler than yours. (Dastan Mechanics, Brickdoctor's Hexagon Battles, Continuous Battle, Multi-Pronged Assault All great for different roles, but the ones that stick out to me as being especially great are the Dastan Mechanics and the Multi-Pronged Assault type.
