Endgame Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) People were willing to play CAT, weren't they? It's basically just a way to make people go back and read old quests to secure some loot. Edited April 24, 2014 by Endgame Quote
UsernameMDM Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 It's basically just a way to make people go back and read old quests to secure some loot. Read through hundreds of pages for 100 quests. Yeah, no thanks. At all. Quote
Endgame Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 The hints as to the riddle's locations would be designed with pointing at a specific moment in the quest the riddle's in: the example I gave is about 5 pages worth of quest to sift through, which is easy enough. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 The problem with your suggestion Endgame in my mind is that most people don't really read a lot of the quests, so a hint, would only reach a handful of people, flicking through pages to find something is not very exciting, either. I don't think many people have a recollection of where something exactly would happen. An event with heroica- related puzzles, varying degrees of difficulty heroica trivia questions could be great, but not the whole going back to old quests to find them. Quote

The concept was pretty much to see how well the players knew the world of Heroica, although there probably is a better way of doing it. Quote

The concept was pretty much to see how well the players knew the world of Heroica, although there probably is a better way of doing it. As I said, you can do that through trivia questions. Trivia is great. Announce the event and give a time when the questions will be released, dress it all up in a Heroica type way of course, give a list of trivia with Questions like: Which NPC has starred in the most quests, what was the rogue's first, shortlived Job trait, that kind of thing. The people send them in to the event host and the ones with the most right answers and after that the fastest timing win prizes. I would be up for this sort of event. It requires arguably less work from Sandy, since other people could do the 'work'. Quote

Perhaps each correct answer gives that person a point, and how many days remaining in the event when they send in the answer sheet gives them that many points? For example, say the event was a week long: 36/40 questions correct Submitted on day 2, so 6 points extra earned 36+6=42 as a final score It's a potential rating system that takes into account both your answers and time taken when deciding your final score. Honestly, I'm up for trivia as well. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 If you really want to do it, pitch it to Sandy, and perhaps you can do it! You can work out the details later, I'm sure. Quote
Zepher Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I think trivia might actually be a fun summer event! Quote
Kintobor Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Don't do it strictly for speed though. I feel it would be unfair to some of our members who live in different timezones. I don't think it would be a bad idea, you'd just have to ensure everyone has an equal chance. Quote
Zepher Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 My suggestion: Make it a month or so long event! Some QMs and players could collaborate to put together 30/31 questions. Each day, the person in charge of the question could post the trivia question, and anyone can PM in the answer. Each right answer gets 10 gold. You get 24 hours before the next question is posted, along with the previous one's answer. The most anyone could make is 310 gold. If lots of people submit questions, it would be incredibly easy on everyone, and the people submitting questions would only have to sit out one or two days! Quote
Endgame Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) Worry not, if I am going to do this, I could probably come up with 40-50 questions. I may combine that idea with something of an advent-calender type thing... Should I even run this. Edited April 24, 2014 by Endgame Quote
Palathadric Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I'll give you a list of questions I know the answer to that you can ask me back...that way everyone wins!!! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) What do y'all think of a set/standard Quest for n00bs called Heroica Academy? It would be for PCs up to level 5. It would be as if Copper Fox (or someone) was training new heroes in a dojo/arena. Each fight would be used to help explain mechanics and get new PCs gain a few levels & some loot so they could go into standard quests a little better prepared. Just feel sorry watching these low level PCs getting creamed in the Baltarak Trilogy. Edited April 30, 2014 by UsernameMDM Quote
Kintobor Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't like the idea personally. I don't want the first quest our heroes embark on to be one where it's basically a tutorial/ wave encounter with no plot. It just feels like a way to get heroes to a higher level. If we wanted that, then why not just start them at level five? First quests should be easy enough for new heroes to slip into and get their feet wet so they can experience the world around them and learn how the game and world functions, not stuck doing training. CMP Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't see how ithat's any different from QMs just hosting Quests specifically for low-level heroes. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Fair enough. Yes, it's meant to be a tutorial type quest like those video game RPGs. I had envisioned it to be somewhat like the Fields of Glory with a few set/standard type battles and rotating QMs. Just don't see a lot of low level quests, and we had a nice batch of low level Pcs. Bricksandparts Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Actually this time it was basically the same idea, no crazy mechanics included. Although this was part of the fact that it was meant to be relatively simple, as to not confuse new players. Quote
Sandy Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 What do y'all think of a set/standard Quest for n00bs called Heroica Academy? I feel the same way as Kintobor and CMP: what would be the point? Don't new players deserve to experience same varied stories that you did when you started out? The start might be rougher nowadays, with the power gap between players being so wide, but the levelling curve means that new players usually quickly catch up if they're active. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Just something that would be more on their level w/o QMs trying to balance out a battle that has level 5 & level 20+ PCs, Quote
Bricksandparts Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Quest 95 is going pretty crappy so far . It started out fine, but then I lost major access to my computer, then most of my questers aren't very active, and finally I'm having problems with LDD... Quote

Just host it without pictures for a while. As nice as the scenes are to look at, I don't think it's at all necessary to have a picture of the player's every step. Quote
