Scorpiox Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I have to say that your story was very gripping and I loved the NPCs. Wren is a truly great character and I loved her link with Tesni during the quest. The settings were well made and pictured, and the diologue was clear and interesting. I really like how you incorporated the heroes into the quest, it is one of the things that make the quest really interesting. The battles were tough but not so hard as to be boring. I thought it great how Sir Earl was created into the party and the fact that you allowed us to do things we wanted without much restriction made for some good action. One improvement that could possibly be made, is there wasn't that much interection and chance to talk and learn about the characters of Felton and Hans. But this in no way detracts from the enjoyment of the quest. As for the dream quest... I was attempting to do this throughout the quest, as you probably saw in my reluctance to heal Jess in the last few battles. I would have persevered, but I realised in the last battle that I needed a shield to help win the battle. Allowing Jess to get knocked out because of me being selfish and having a miricle not help her would be unfair. So I let it go. Quote
Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Since Quest 15 has ended, I'll post some of my thought on it here. First off, I loved the Quest. The backdrops were well made and added a good mood to the story. The characters and enemies were very interesting (finally we have seen something of the Ji Pei!). I also loved those Heroica Game maps you made to accompany the Quest. My only real critique is that I sometimes felt lost at what to do. At times we were just seemingly aimlessly wandering through the fortress without really knowing where to go. Maybe we just missed hints, but in my opinion some help would've been welcome at some moments. Overall, it was a very, very good Quest though . Quote
Bricksandparts Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Could we get a full map of the rooms in quest 15? It'd be really awesome to see the whole model. Edited March 13, 2012 by Bricksandparts Quote
JimBee Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Yes, thank you for the wonderful quest, Sandy. I had a great time participating. Even though it went on for a very long time, I felt that the heroes were justly rewarded, enough for two shorter quests at least. I liked the dungeon exploration setting, and also how different choices led to different rewards/consequences, i.e. the kitchen entrance for the Hinckwell wares and the automaton machine. The enemies were great, and also challenging. The only thing I did not like was the futuristic automatons and professor. Even for a fantasy world, they seemed a little far-fetched (although the Ji Pei's technology will play a part in Hybros' development). I am curious about other possibilities in the quest (such as, could we have gotten Sham to lower prices even more? And was there other loot?), but of course I can understand if you want to keep those a secret. Quote
K-Nut Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Great quest, Sandy! It was by far one of my favorites to follow of any quest yet. The only thing I did not like was the futuristic automatons and professor. Even for a fantasy world, they seemed a little far-fetched (although the Ji Pei's technology will play a part in Hybros' development). I actually was a big fan of this, since it really showed how real of a world Olegia was, since it showed technological advancement from the 'Medieval Stage' of History. I am curious about other possibilities in the quest (such as, could we have gotten Sham to lower prices even more? And was there other loot?), but of course I can understand if you want to keep those a secret. I'd like to see these, too, especially Reno's stats and what (if anything) he dropped. Quote
Sandy Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad to hear you were not upset about the length of the quest, I had no idea it would be drawn out as much as it was, but life is life. My only real critique is that I sometimes felt lost at what to do. At times we were just seemingly aimlessly wandering through the fortress without really knowing where to go. Maybe we just missed hints, but in my opinion some help would've been welcome at some moments. Well, you had two tasks: 1) defeat Jolly Roger and 2) find Reno Bonaparte. Now that you know those were in fact one and the same, the only thing you really could do was to wander around until you found the solution. This was desinged to be a dungeon crawler quest, and I think that's exactly what it was. Could we get a full map of the rooms in quest 15? It'd be really awesome to see the whole model. Of course! I meant to post them into the game topic, but I can just as well post them here. First floor: Second floor: Mind you that I removed some of the enemies from the first floor since the battles were getting excessive (the party did not use the rums as much as I thought). Also note that there was no real "third floor", all the stairs in the second floor lead to towers where the party would've been able to pull down a pirate flag to signal the Sunflower that Jolly Roger was dead. I am curious about other possibilities in the quest (such as, could we have gotten Sham to lower prices even more? And was there other loot?), but of course I can understand if you want to keep those a secret. There were some battles and loot you missed, but aside from the final boss battle, they were nothing consequential. And Sham would not have lowered his prices anymore. If you would've roughed him up, he would've fled. I'd like to see these, too, especially Reno's stats and what (if anything) he dropped. Here you go! Note that the fight with him would've also included four Ji Pei guards and Dr. Gioconda. Vincent Legonardo would not have participated. Reno Bonaparte Type: Humanoid Level: 21 Health: 309/309 Special I: Jolly Roger – Reno starts laughing, recovering 50 health each round. Only a bottle of rum broken on his head will make him stop, for he hates the taste of it. Special II: Keelhaul – Causes 42 damage to the target. Used only when laughing. Drops: Conspirator (WP:11, darkness-elemental, suitable to knights and rogues) Quote
RPGer Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) I think Reno was way overpowered, Sandy. 21 damage? The first special was great, but the second was over the top. Plus four Ji-Pei guards and the Doctor Gioconda, it would have been TPK in two rounds. Edited March 14, 2012 by RPGer Quote

Plus four Ji-Pei guards and the Doctor Gioconda, it would have been TPK in two rounds. Thank you, Mr. Expert, but this would've been a final boss battle, so it was supposed to be challenging, and players are known to survive much worse odds than this. Heck, there was a group of four Level 20 enemies in the quest, and the party beat them as well. It all depends on how the die rolls. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Alrighty, so I should have another quest ready to be posted in the hall in a week or so, but in the meantime, here something to wet your whistles. Quest Title: The Breakthrough Assignment: To the heroes of Heroica Hall: We are most excited to announce on behalf of the city of Eubric, that we would be honored by your presence at the unveiling of a historic demonstration of the conjoining of science and industry with magic and mystery brought about through the genius of the highly regarded gnomish inventor Moranis Szalinski. The event shall be held at the Eubric Common House and we shall require the service of 4 to 6 heroes to represent the best of our fair city. -- Party Requirements: 4-6 well accomplished heroes of level 15 or higher. Reward: The representative heroes shall be adequately recompensed for their time and shall receive (800-1200 Gold dependent upon the party size) to share amongst themselves. Also I thought I'd ask if there is something the PC's would like to see more of in a quest and I thought I'd try to work them in. Also if you're below Level 15, feel free to contribute as well, as I've got a smaller quest for newer heroes in the works too. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Good to hear that the crazy inventor is still around! It's really nice when we see recurring characters. As someone who has been QMed by WBD on his last Quest, I have to say that he is a great QM who features memorable characters and plenty of puzzles to go with the battles. I would love Tarn to go but he will probably still be in Silverpick Mine, and he won't have reached level 15 either. Quote

Guess that omits all rogues except maybe Dyric since he comes from nobility. I'm not sure what heroes could be considered as the faces of Heroic and perhaps that's a question for the Rules Topic but I'd pick from Cronk, Boomingham (sober), Alexis, Ellaria, Daggerfall (he's handsome), Hoke, Tarn, Cinna, Maurice, Nyx (if she can be kept from setting people on fire), and Docken to represent as the best of Eubric. As far as things to throw into your quest...I can't think of anything. Just keep doing what you've been doing. Quote

Scubacarrot Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 WB, your previous quest was amazing, one of the funnest to follow. I hope this one is the same style, then it will be great! A thing I like to see, (In all quests, btw) is crossover npc's. Quote

Plus Mr Szalinski is back, it would be amazing to meet him again, and try and speak about his daughters and Haldor's child. Quote

I feel so special Out of curiosity, how long will the quest be, aproximently? If it's going to feature the best of Eubric, their best trainer should make an appearance somewhere Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Best doesn't necessarily mean the most respectable or even honorable to that degree, it simply was meant to encourage the more experienced heroes (Lv. 15 and up) to sign up. Time frame is maybe around 4-6 weeks depending on how fast people post, during my last quest everybody posted fairly often and the puzzles were solved a little quicker than I had planned for, not to mention the party basically skipped almost all of the final dungeon due to a certain person's magic compass. The quest will be set in Eubric Freeport for the most part and will feature some returning NPC's from my own and other QM's quests. It will be different dealing with all advanced classes but I look forward to the challenge. Quote
