LEGOman273 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I am building Mocs for a quest, it should be ready in about six weeks Quest:#??: The knights of sir John strike back Quest master: Jedi master Brick Assignment: we are an old group of soldiers trying to bring peace to Ennon, it was working 5 Years back, we had a small town, expanding fast. Then the mecenarys, from the cult of scorpius have beaten our soldiers so now we are few. But now we strike back, I have devised a plan to strike at the heart of the cult and kill its leader but I will need help Sir John, found of the knights of Sir John Party requirements we need a part of 4 to help us infiltrate the cult of Scorpius' headquarters. But no rouges or barbarrians, we know not to trust them now Reward: 400 gold to share and 1 level of experience each This quest would be not too long and have a fair few battles. I would like feedback on the idea please If you want someone to infiltrate, you should allow Rogues to take part. Which makes me think: Could an advanced Rogue-class have an ability that allows the Rogue a, say, 1/6 chance of not even being seen be an enemy. Similer to Flee in that the Rogue recieves no XP nor any Loot from the avoided Battle. Quote

Perhaps, but if it were extended to the entire party it may work. The Party in Quest# 24 came up against very powerful enemies, and we chose to use a Smoke Bomb to flee. Had I this abillity, we may have been able to cross the bridge without fighting. Note: PCs enjoy battles (especially for the Loot and XP ), thus this would not be used at all times. Only when the enemies are powerful, would the Rogue use this. Quote

That's what Smokes Bombs are for...I still don't understand what you'd use this ability for. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Then everybody would just rely on Rogues instead of using Smoke Bombs, and QMs would be unable to balance a harder battle. Quote

Speaking of which, how DO you guys balance your enemies? Do you make up generic Heroes within the target level range and run simulated battles, or do a lot of mathematical equations, or...? Darth Nihilus Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Since some people have posted their unfinished Quest pitches here already, here's one I've been working on for a while. Quest #???: Hunting the Lich Quest Master: Darth Nihilus Pitch: Help! Our kingdom has been invaded by undead....invaders, and our king has been kidnapped! We must call upon the mighty organization of Heroica in our time of need! The leader of the undead, a Lich of unknown origin, has taken the castle as a stronghold. Not even our strongest warriors can defeat him, because he has hidden four Soul Stealers across the kingdom that feed him and his power with energy from hell! You, the Heroes, must find and defeat the Soul Stealers and infiltrate the castle to kill the Lich and save our mighty Kingdom! ~Former Court Jester of the once-mighty Kingdom of Harmonia Party requirements: We need a balanced team of four heroes, with at least one Cleric. We would prefer if these heroes are experienced, perhaps Level 7 or above, but will accept new heroes as well if need be. Reward: The gratitude of the Kingdom, as well as a sum of 600 Gold from the king's treasury to split. Feedback, please? Quote

(If you don't want to publicly post your methods, please feel free to just drop me a PM. ) I usually look at how much HP the average hero has and how much Damage the average hero can do (in my party), and then I sort of eyeball the stats when I make the first battle. Based on each battle, I re-adjust the stats for the upcoming battles. Quote
Endgame Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) Just thought I'd post this here: Quest XX: From The Void He Shall Rise Quest Master: Endgame Pitch: I, Isaac Namriach, chairman of the town guard, requests your help for some... under the table assignments. All of my guards are busy trying to isolate a riot springing between the houses regarding stolen wares, and to top it off, a mysterious fortress has been erected on the edge of our fair island. They must somehow be connected... I need heroes to investigate. Party Requirements: A party of 6, with a variety of classes. Atleast level 15 - I don't want any heroes meeting their demise on my employment! Reward: 1800 gold to split, plus some great bonuses from the Town Watch armory. Feedback on this? i need several summer sets to get the parts needed to build it, so it's ways off... But I'd like criticism on the base idea. Edited May 4, 2012 by Endgame Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I think 500 Gold and some other item per hero is a bit much, no matter how difficult the quest might be. Quote
Endgame Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I think 500 Gold and some other item per hero is a bit much, no matter how difficult the quest might be. Changed to 1800 gold to reflect this. Just to give a bit more info on what it'd entails, all I'd like to reveal is that it revolves around a cult thought to be long gone - and it'll be a choatic mixture of puzzles and battles. Quote
K-Nut Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Wow Darth, Someones been playing a bit too much RotMG. I like the idea. Sounds interesting. Quote

I considered naming the lich Xykon, but decided against it, for the good of all humanity-loving suckers people. Quote

(If you don't want to publicly post your methods, please feel free to just drop me a PM. ) I generally take the combined amount of damage the heroes can do and then multiply it by the number of rounds I'd like the battle to last then take that number as the total health of all the enemies. I'm finding a better approximation is to take the number of potential rounds and -2 to account for bad rolls. I'd like to suggest for future quest masters as well, don't be afraid to take on (involve) one of the houses. I know it can be tempting to create your own little world and kingdoms, but Heroica does have an established history, and while its okay to go out on your own and do your own thing, I think it would be really cool to see some more development of the houses by the QM's. LEGOman273 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 A group flee? That's what Smokes Bombs are for...I still don't understand what you'd use this ability for. Not a Flee. Flee does not let you pass the enemy. This would. I really am just trying to work the Rogue's sneakiness into the gameplay. As everyone else seems to be doing it: (damn peer-pressure. ) Shadaeux shipping around the Free Islands has long been plagued by Hinckwell-sponsored pirates, and the efforts of the guards on the trade ships have proven to be futile. Now, as they are shipping something that must not fall into the hands of the pirates, the Shadeaux have turned once again to Heroica. They require a team of five Heros (Class doesn't matter. Level is mid-range.) to protect the cargo. Each Hero will recieve 100 Gold upon the seccessful completion of the Quest, as well as a special bonus. C&C Please. If you want gameplay details, PM me. Note: I need some help with a few things, so I would like it of someone did. Quote

Story-wise, Sandy has said before that even though they're arch-rivals, the Hinckwells and Shadeaux never go out and explicitly attack each other. If there's going to be a conflict between the two, it has to be a sneaky sort of thing, and there can't be any conclusive evidence as far as the general public (in-universe) is concerned that they were ever behind their efforts to sabotage each other's efforts. So the Hinckwells can still sponsor the pirates, but the quest pitch in the hall wouldn't say anything as the sponsoring wouldn't be general knowledge. Quote

Ah, okay, I skimmed that and read "Hinckwell pirates".In any case, Sandy has also said that for now, there are no pirates in the seas around Uland. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Somewhere in the seas other than near the Free Islands. If it's not specified, you can flesh it out yourself. (within reason, of course) Quote
