Sandy Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Thanks for the quest ideas! I usually give feedback over PMs, but I'm going to make an exception and do it here. Please don't be offended if I turn your idea down. I try to be honest about the reasons why I don't like it, but you are always welcome to prove me wrong or pitch something more convincing. I am building Mocs for a quest, it should be ready in about six weeks Quest:#??: The knights of sir John strike back Quest master: Jedi master Brick Assignment: we are an old group of soldiers trying to bring peace to Ennon, it was working 5 Years back, we had a small town, expanding fast. Then the mecenarys, from the cult of scorpius have beaten our soldiers so now we are few. But now we strike back, I have devised a plan to strike at the heart of the cult and kill its leader but I will need help Sir John, found of the knights of Sir John Party requirements we need a part of 4 to help us infiltrate the cult of Scorpius' headquarters. But no rouges or barbarrians, we know not to trust them now Reward: 400 gold to share and 1 level of experience each This quest would be not too long and have a fair few battles. I would like feedback on the idea please There's no way I will let you host a quest until you've learned to at least put proper capitals and punctuation to your text, sorry. As far as the story goes, Ennon is a lost kingdom, there's no humans living there anymore, just small bands of orcs. Since some people have posted their unfinished Quest pitches here already, here's one I've been working on for a while. Quest #???: Hunting the Lich Quest Master: Darth Nihilus Pitch: Help! Our kingdom has been invaded by undead....invaders, and our king has been kidnapped! We must call upon the mighty organization of Heroica in our time of need! The leader of the undead, a Lich of unknown origin, has taken the castle as a stronghold. Not even our strongest warriors can defeat him, because he has hidden four Soul Stealers across the kingdom that feed him and his power with energy from hell! You, the Heroes, must find and defeat the Soul Stealers and infiltrate the castle to kill the Lich and save our mighty Kingdom! ~Former Court Jester of the once-mighty Kingdom of Harmonia Party requirements: We need a balanced team of four heroes, with at least one Cleric. We would prefer if these heroes are experienced, perhaps Level 7 or above, but will accept new heroes as well if need be. Reward: The gratitude of the Kingdom, as well as a sum of 600 Gold from the king's treasury to split. Feedback, please? I like this idea, even though it is quite simplistic and straightforward. The name is a bit odd, since the heroes wouldn't have to do any hunting, really. The lich is waiting for them in his castle, after all. Just thought I'd post this here: Quest XX: From The Void He Shall Rise Quest Master: Endgame Pitch: I, Isaac Namriach, chairman of the town guard, requests your help for some... under the table assignments. All of my guards are busy trying to isolate a riot springing between the houses regarding stolen wares, and to top it off, a mysterious fortress has been erected on the edge of our fair island. They must somehow be connected... I need heroes to investigate. Party Requirements: A party of 6, with a variety of classes. Atleast level 15 - I don't want any heroes meeting their demise on my employment! Reward: 1800 gold to split, plus some great bonuses from the Town Watch armory. Feedback on this? i need several summer sets to get the parts needed to build it, so it's ways off... But I'd like criticism on the base idea. Again the spelling leaves something to be desired, but I also don't get the general idea of this quest. Is this taking place in Eubric? Why does the Town Watch have a chairman? And why on earth would the Houses in Power "riot" over anything? I think you should play the game more before you pitch anything, anyway, to learn more about what this is all about. Shadaeux shipping around the Free Islands has long been plagued by Hinckwell-sponsored pirates, and the efforts of the guards on the trade ships have proven to be futile. Now, as they are shipping something that must not fall into the hands of the pirates, the Shadeaux have turned once again to Heroica. They require a team of five Heros (Class doesn't matter. Level is mid-range.) to protect the cargo. Each Hero will recieve 100 Gold upon the seccessful completion of the Quest, as well as a special bonus. C&C Please. If you want gameplay details, PM me. Note: I need some help with a few things, so I would like it of someone did. We discussed this already over PM, I think, and I still don't like the idea that you mix up the two merchant houses with pirates. I just don't think they'd resort to that method - or at least be so open about it. And yeah, there are no pirates around Free Islands, but there's a lot of uncharted territory (for us, not in the game's context) around the Crystalline Sea. As a quest creator, you are free to create whatever you want - islands, cities, countries, even entire continents if you want to. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) One area I am weak in is getting the right enemy levels for an engaging battle. I tend to work off the numbers that if every member of the party all got a hit, what would that total, and then times it by 3 (for 3 rounds). But it seems like either my battles are too easy or drag on too long. Mind you, I have re-read Quest#13 recently and the sheer luck the party had with rolls was staggering. They breezed through anything I could set up until the final boss. Edited May 4, 2012 by Rumble Strike Quote

Well, I couldn't very well call it "Quest #???: Kill the Lich Waiting in His Castle", now could I? ...But yeah, I'll come up with a better name for it. Probably with a pun in the name, but you never know. Quote

Flipz Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Kind of an odd question, but it just popped into my head, so... How would you guys handle a rhythm-based challenge? I don't want it to be completely luck-based (i.e. just roll a die to see if it works), but at the same time I do want some kind of dice mechanic because...well...rhythm is kind of hard to represent textually. Do you think a rhythm challenge would even be possible? Quote

Darkdragon Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Do you think a rhythm challenge would even be possible? IMO no it would not be possible to accurately depict in text based game. I think it would also add yet another game mechanic to make things even more difficult to keep track of. Quote

I don't do java coding, though, so It'd be impossible to embed directly on the page. Edited May 4, 2012 by Endgame Quote
Kadabra Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 (edited) This is a mish-mash combination of one of my simpler Quest ideas, a Wolfgang-centric one, and the suggestion I've gotten multiple times now that my Quest idea should be split into multiple parts. I's still like to host the uber-Quest once I'm a wee bit more experienced, however many Quests that takes, but I've decided to make the plot I'd worked out a bit deeper with some prodding from Flipz, so I'll be pitching two or three prologue Quests that take place here in Eubric that involve the existing houses as well as my own faction, the Serpentine Kingdom of the Archipelago of the Elements. So here's the first of my ideas: Quest:#??: Mamba Python and the Elemental Grail Quest Master: Kadabra Assignment: Hello, heroessssss. I am Private Python, a Dragonborn serving Hissssss Majessssty the Dragon Princcccce of the Archipelago of the Elementsssss, a far-off island chain that I doubt any of you Eubricianssssss are familiar with. It hassss the power to convert ordinary rockssss into gemsssstonesssss when filled with a dragon'sssssss sssaliva. The thief sssssssplit the Grail into ten partsssss, presssssumably to pawn them of ssssseperately. Our Lieutenant isssssss tracking down the nine flawlessssssssss gemsssss set in the Grail, whilsssssst the General issssss hunting the original thief. I have been assssigned to track down the Golden Chalicccccce, the cup of pure gold that is the basssse of the Grail. My ssssscout forcccce hasssss recieved intel that a gang that hassss been causssssing trouble in your cccccity has obtained possssssession of the chaliccccce. Thisssss appears to be a prime opportunity for collaboration - you help me retrieve the cup, and my forcccce shall asssssssisssst you in dealing with this gang. - Private Mamba Python Party Requirements: A group of three ought to be perfect for thisssss tassssk. Reward: 600 Gold to split, improved relations with the Serpentine Court, and a level of experience each. Edited May 5, 2012 by Kadabra Quote

Scubacarrot Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 About Quest 26: I enjoyed it very much, It was certainly not what I expected, with the dragon and all . I like how you put in Singerson, it helped you create harder battles than we could otherwise have handled, since we had no cleric. The effects were also very well thought out, and I like how we could use each one only once per battle, which allowed for strategy, which is always a good thing! The length was good! I would like to be QM'ed by varying QMs, so preferring shorter quests over very long ones, so this one was very good in that respect, and you still managed to cram a lot of battles in there. I also liked that we had limited time between each battles (AKA no bedroll use) which really had us use consumables, something I'd like to see more of! The battles were, with the exception of the first dragon battle and the worm battle, a bit too easy, I felt, but compared to some other quests and the loot we got, pretty much okay, I think. It also helped a TON that Hybros used all the consumables, it is a very strong strategy. I also think we got lucky in a lot of cases. The loot was probably a bit on the low side, compared to other quests, since most battles did not give ANY loot, and the end reward was very low as well, but we did get a lot of experience, so that made up for it, I feel. The pictures could be better, but I know very much how hard it is to do. The Mocs of the Dragon, dragonlings and the spider were really good though, and the use of the arms as worms is very creative. The pace was good, although it kinda felt like the quest was dragging at the end, but I guess it always does when you know the quest is about to end. Something I must ask though, did we miss anything? I like your unique items, the gloves and the artifact Guts got (Is it a ring, or a trinket, or what?) are very creative, and the cat and dog statuettes are a nice find as well. A minor annoyance is that I am now level 14.5... Yeah... I imagine CallMePieOrDie felt the same, haha. All in all, I think it was a very good quest, and I'd go on another one of yours. Hope this feedback helped. Quote
Zepher Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Well done Xarran! I thought that was an extremely impressive quest. It was a bit of a Dungeon Crawler, but certainly not a slow or boring one. The events seemed to be well paced and well planned. Sometimes, there isn't a need for an over-arching story, and that's fine. You played the events out like they were random - the heroes had three basic creature types to destroy to clear the Quarry, and that's what happened. Singerson was a lot of fun to read, and a helpful guide. Well done, I really can't find a problem with the entire quest. Get those NPCs to me for indexing, there's a number that are well-worth the list. Quote
Palathadric Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Something I must ask though, did we miss anything? Oh, yes, this is what I wanted to ask Capt.JohnPaul. Did we miss anything? Were there are other battle that we could have participated in, besides the battle we ran away from? Or any other puzzles we could have completed? Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Oh, yes, this is what I wanted to ask Capt.JohnPaul. Did we miss anything? Were there are other battle that we could have participated in, besides the battle we ran away from? Or any other puzzles we could have completed? Not really, you got it all except one thing. It was a sort of mini-quest that didn't concern you. At the town, there was a WANTED poster that listed a whole bunch of money. So if you wanted to search for the wanted man, you could. Quote
Palathadric Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 (edited) Was that the WANTED sign beside Cleric Wulf in the first picture? Darn it and it says $1,000,000 reward. That's a heck of a lot of gold in Eubric. Edited May 6, 2012 by palathadric Quote
JimBee Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I also really liked Quest 26, well done Xarrzan. Like Scubacarrot said, Singerson was a great and creative substitute for a cleric, and I enjoyed reading the songs. I certainly wasn't expecting to encounter a dragon, either, but I really like the way you designed that battle. The tried-and-true method of having boss battles take place in separate phases proved itself here, I think. The only change I would've made would have been to have the main dragon keep its original health, rather than changing it each time. I enjoyed the shortness of it all, as well. While long, epic quests are great it's always nice to have shorter, simpler ones here and there. The loot was probably a bit on the low side, compared to other quests, since most battles did not give ANY loot, and the end reward was very low as well, but we did get a lot of experience, so that made up for it, I feel. I disagree, I thought that the Dragon's Hoard more than made up for the small reward. The again, Hybros made gold more than three times his own weight... Too bad the consumable strategy won't work for Assassin.... Anyway, it was also cool how the shovels and pickaxes actually had a purpose; to replace the ones we broke fighting the worms. I was curious as to why there was such a weird reward. Overall, the quest was excellent, and I would definitely go on another of yours. Quote
CMP Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Nice quest Xarrzan. The Dragon's Hoard made up for the overall lack of loot well. Too bad the consumable strategy won't work for Assassin... Why wouldn't it? Gold Reaper still garners money. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Was that the WANTED sign beside Cleric Wulf in the first picture? Darn it and it says $1,000,000 reward. That's a heck of a lot of gold in Eubric. Yes, it was. Now, did it say $1,000,000, or 1,000,000 gold? What if they use a different currency? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Yes, it was. Now, did it say $1,000,000, or 1,000,000 gold? What if they use a different currency? If we assume that the dollars listed are USD and that Heroica uses a Gold coin comparable to the doubloon, I believe that the current price for gold is $52.68 USD per gram, and a doubloon weighs 6.77 grams, so if the coins are of pure gold, each Gold coin is worth $356.6436 USD, so, based on the value of gold, the reward would be 2,804 Gold in Heroica. (rounded to the nearest Gold) Quote

Xarrzan Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 About Quest 26: The pictures could be better... Something I must ask though, did we miss anything? I like your unique items... Glad you enjoyed the quest overall. I planned for it to be a quick quest. When I pitched it to Sandy, I forgot to add that its more of a "hack and slash" type quest. I was trying to make the battles challenging. I intended the party to have a mage and a cleric but none signed up. So I was then trying to make the battles not too hard. Pictures are a difficult part as well. I have other quest ideas but not as many Lego pieces. Basically building the sets is a big limiting factor. No, nothing was missed in the quest. I didn't intend to leave you, or anyone else, .5 level away from their advanced class. The Beholder's Eye is a ring that can be worn on one's finger. Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm trying to keep track of all the responses in the various forums. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I have two questions: 1) Is it ok to steal borrow battle styles from someone else? (Like using Brickdoctor's current format of hexes on a map.) Would that be boring, or does it not matter if there is a twist? 2) In a quest, is it fine to use a group, Zeigfrieds for example, that may not be what Sandy originally intended? Could a QM make them sound more evil then thought? Again, is it fine with a twist? Quote
