I have two questions:

1) Is it ok to steal borrow battle styles from someone else? (Like using Brickdoctor's current format of hexes on a map.) Would that be boring, or does it not matter if there is a twist?

I think everyone agrees that all the game mechanics and rules introduced for this game are freely usable by all QMs. Otherwise what would be the point of creating anything for this game if nobody else could use it?

2) In a quest, is it fine to use a group, Zeigfrieds for example, that may not be what Sandy originally intended? Could a QM make them sound more evil then thought? Again, is it fine with a twist?

Not without consulting me about it first. I have specific plans for all the main houses, so I don't want anyone screwing them up.

I think I stole borrowed the hex map from a few million other game designers and GMs.

Before I pitch anything, I would like to get some feedback on this idea:

Quest Title: Black Tuesday

Assignment: The 6 major houses of Eubric have announced an Initial Public Offering. But the nasty Wolfgang are interfering with the stocks! They are suspected of using insider information to scam everyone. Help restore the houses to their value. -Whoever sens this quest.

Party Requirements: 4-6 heroes, any class.

Reward: I'm still thinking, perhaps all the value of all the houses in the end? Just lots of gold.

Basically, each "day" the heroes could invest in stocks, and the values will be revealed in a chart like this:

__|__|__|__|__|__|__

__|__|__|__|__|__|__

__|__|__|__|__|__|__

__|__|__|__|__|__|__

(there still will be battles and puzzles.)

I don't want to to reveal too much, but is this something that players wold have fun with?

Sounds kind of interesting although I don't entirely understand how it would work.

The chart? Ok, let me explain this chart better:

H= House

H|__|__|__|__|__

H|__|__|__|__|__

H|__|__|__|__|__

Then, the next "day" that the quest lasts, it becomes:

H= house

#= value in gold

H|_3_|__|__|__|__

H|_2_|__|__|__|__

H|_2_|__|__|__|__

Then, next day:

H= house

#= value in gold

H|_3_|_4_|__|__|__

H|_2_|_5_|__|__|__

H|_2_|_1_|__|__|__

So, in this example, Houses 1 and 2 gained price, but house 3 lost value.

My question is more conceptual than mechanical.

The world is fantasy-medieval. Sure, some QMs have pushed that a bit, but what you're suggesting is a fairly modern idea. In universe, who would by buying the 'stocks'?, I can't see anyone having the money except other houses (or their affiliates). Besides, why would the houses exchange control (through shareholder voting) for capital, what do they need the money for and would the families cede any kind of control to the 'public'. I think not.

Universe-wise I can see trading in commodities, like wool, grain, lumber etc. But not shares in 'Houses'.

And also, how would the Wolfgang be involved in the trading. I can't really see them having the means or inclination.

If it was commodities trading though, both the Hinkwells and Shadeux would want to protect their cash flow and might be involved I price fixing or undercutting rivals...

Thank you for the input! You make very good points.

So you are suggesting:

Changing the Houses to fictional "companies" of wool, lumber, etc.

It's okay to keep the Hinkwells and Shadeaux.

I think I would want to keep the Wolfgang, they are not selling anything, but more of trouble making, such as damaging goods so the companies/houses lose money.

EDIT: A quick Google search found that stocks or something similar was used in Roman times, by Publicani.

I'm sorry, Capt.John-Paul, but I don't see how your idea would make a suitable quest. It's just too farfetched.

Keep them quest ideas coming! There's still several players left in the Hall, yearning for some questing.

I have a shorter Quest concept in mind, I'll try and get it PM'd to you sometime this week.

I need some advice:

1. For ship-to-ship combat, how much health should a ship have? How much health should be taken away by a cannon hit?

2. Is there a way for people to instantly communicate with each other when they are away (perhaps some form of telepathy)?

1. I don't think it really matters. As long as the health is proportional to the cannon damage, it should be okay.

I don't know about your second question.

2. There are ways (i.e. Arthur's Journals, and the Sending spell used for Z-mail), but most of them are a bit rare. And honestly, if you're just looking for ship-to-ship communication, either handwave it (just let Heroes on different ships chat freely in battle, assume they're shouting or something) or else split the party and run the Quest with one group using the main topic and the other in PMs, if you're worried about "realistic" communication. My adice would just be to handwave it on the ship(s), and only do the side-Quest type party split if it's a major, plot-related thing on land.

EDIT: spelling.

Thanks, but I needed it for my other (non-ship) Quest. Has the Guild of Invision created some form of comm-link? Or is there a telepathy spell?

In that Quest, I will split the party, but all action takes place in one thread. I need comms or something so that player knowledge is character knowledge.

In that case, why split the party at all? If it's something like "the party surrounds the bad guy by sending half the party down the alley while the other half goes up the other end", then it's unnecessary. If they really are split up and doing different things, then there doesn't need to be communication between the party members, they should just do their thing and meet back up again in a designated meeting place when both groups are done with their mini-missions.

To summarize and make my rule of thumb more general purpose: "If they need to communicate in-topic, just handwave it. If the separation is large enough that they realistically can't communicate, split them off into a side-Quest."

Well, if you insist.... This is more of a follow-up to The Stealers of Souls, but it could fit in before that happens.

Quest #??: In the Eyes of the Beholders

Assignment:Heroes, quickly! A new, high-tech drug has been created from the eyes of the nearly-extinct Beholder race. If this gets on the streets, petty crime will get an edge on our forces! You must defend the remaining Beholders from poachers, and stop this drug before it happens! ~Head Guard of the Kingdom of Harmonia

Party requirements: We need a balanced party of four, preferably with at least one Knight or any of their Advanced Classes.

Reward: 300 gold to each party member, as well as a level of experience.

Length: This shouldn't take too long, about four weeks at best.

This is the pitch for my quest already accepted by Sandy, which is coming some time after the Dastan Quests are finishing, I am hoping to have at least one Hero from my previous quest on this one. And yes, the Wolfgang is involved!

I think the Z-mail deal, was a one time thing. The magic died fairly early on when it was discovered that mails were jumping into the wrong hands. Love letters were received by enemies. The system was flawed and had to come to a stop. :sweet: I don't personally agree with Arther sending stuff by his journal, but I guess it must just be me who has a bit of a problem with it.

I'd be unable to host this until June/July, when I can make another bricklink order, but here we go. Just thought I'd throw this out here:

Quest XX: The Voracious Vault

Quest Master: Endgame

Assignment: With my father's recent death, he has entrusted me with the location and combination to our family vault: a sprawling underground network brimming with the various riches from my entire family tree. Unfortunately, when I tried to peek at the vault's contents, I was nearly killed! A horde of subterrenean beasts have decided to nest in the vault. I need some heroes to beat the hordes back where they came - my family's vault should NOT be a breeding ground! - Ayla Venten, heir and soon to be owner of the Eubric bank

Party Requirements: I need a group of 4. Preferably one healer in the group: these things are ravenous!

Rewards: 800 gold to split, plus whatever weaponry my folks decided to stash in there.

Length: A 2 month quest for a few level 1s.

As stated, I have to wait until midsummer or so to free up my schedule and order the parts required. Thanks, though! :classic:

There's one problem with your quest: the only bank in Eubric is kept by the priests of Mercutio at the Cathedral of Commerce. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before in the Library, though. I've been contemplating on how to implement the Cathedral into the game system so that players could store their extra belongings there without having to carry them around...

But anyway, you can always make your quest be situated in another city.
