There's one problem with your quest: the only bank in Eubric is kept by the priests of Mercutio at the Cathedral of Commerce. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before in the Library, though. I've been contemplating on how to implement the Cathedral into the game system so that players could store their extra belongings there without having to carry them around...

But anyway, you can always make your quest be situated in another city.

Okay, thanks! I read about the Cathedral of Commerce, but it only says it is the mian place of worship for those who follow Mercuito. Probably be best to hold it somewhere else then Eubric anyway: there isn't really a way such a large mass of loot to remain hidden all those years in a bustling, crime-filled town like Eubric.

This Class was inspired by Jebediahs' and Brickdoctor's engineers.

BRIEF CLASS DESCRIPTION: The Engineer is a pet class that relies heavily on his or her construct in combat. The construct is a pet that is always active and doesn’t need to be summoned. The construct degrades over time so the engineer spends the majority of his time maintaining it during combat. The construct can be customized to deal more damage, soak up more damage, provide support for the party or be balanced.

Can tie it to Ji Pei faction since they like technology or have it non faction related.

Engineer

* Additional Health: +X

* Additional Ether: +X

* Job Trait(s): Mechanical Expertise - Allows the Engineer to repair or alter various machinery encountered. The engineer inflicts double damage to mechanical enemies.

* Battle Style: Construction - Engineers build constructs to aid their party.

1. SHIELD:

Idea 1: EUREKA! - The engineer is inspired by an idea, temporarily increasing his or her intellect (level) by 1 for the rest of the battle. No health or ether is gained and his or her level returns to normal at the end of the battle. Additionally, the engineer is able to switch gems used to power his or her construct.

Idea 2: Makeshift Turret - The engineer hastily builds a turret that hits all enemies with strength equal to the engineer’s weapon power added to their level before it falls apart. Additionally, the engineer is able to switch gems used to power his or her construct.

2. UPGRADE/FULL REPAIR: Grants the
Encouraged
effect to the construct for the next round. Optionally, the engineer can spend 1 ether to heal his or her construct with strength equal to two times their weapon power added to their level.

3. HIT/MODERATE REPAIR: The engineer attacks the target with strength equal to their weapon power added to their level. Optionally, the engineer can spend 1 ether to heal his or her construct with strength equal to their weapon power added to their level.

4. FLASHBANG/LESSER REPAIR: The engineer throws a bomb that blinds all targets for the next round. Optionally, the engineer can spend 1 ether to heal his or her construct with strength equal to their weapon power.

5. DAMAGE/NO REPAIR: The engineer is struck by its opponent’s damage. Optionally, any attempt at repairing fails.

6. SPECIAL DAMAGE: The engineer is struck by its opponent’s special skill.Optionally, any attempt at repairing fails.

QM Note: Engineers rely heavily on their constructs in battle. As a result they are restricted to using throwing weapons such as wrenches, gears, shurikens, etc.

CONSTRUCT

* Base Health: X

* Base Ether: X

* Job Trait(s): Mobile - Able to attack in the front row or back row for full damage.

1. SHIELD: Devolution Beam - The construct blasts all enemies with a random element from the gems used to power it with strength equal to the engineer’s weapon power added to the engineer’s level and lowers the level of each target by 1 for the rest of the battle. Does not deplete ether.

2. CRITICAL HIT/RANGED CRITICAL HIT: The construct attacks the target with strength equal to two times the engineer’s weapon power added to the engineer’s level. Optionally, the construct can spend 1 ether to produce an elemental based ranged attack from one of the gems used to power it with strength equal to two times the engineer’s weapon power added to the engineer’s level.

3. HIT/RANGED HIT: The construct attacks the target with strength equal to the engineer’s weapon power added to the engineer’s level. Optionally, the construct can spend 1 ether to produce an elemental based ranged attack from one of the gems used to power it with strength equal to the engineer’s weapon power added to the engineer’s level.

4. OVERDRIVE: The construct exceeds its parameters and begins to overheat. The construct is granted the
haste
effect for the next round but due to the heat, is unable to produce a ranged attack the next round until it cools down by the following round.

5. REDIRECTED DAMAGE: The construct is struck by its opponent but also produces a blast of energy for half the damage received back at the target. Does not deplete ether.

6. SPECIAL DAMAGE: The construct is struck by the opponent’s special skill.

QM Notes:

The construct receives double damage from lightning based attacks

The construct is affected by Rust and loses 5 health at the end of each round

The construct is only able to be healed by its engineer.

The construct is unaffected by Phoenix Essences. If KO’d its engineer must simply receive a REPAIR /roll or return it to full health while out of combat for 1 ether.

If its engineer is KO’d, the construct will continue to fight on until KO’d or the battle is won.

The construct requires three gems in order to power it.

Each gem equipped by the construct has a beneficial ability that is active until the gem is removed.

Gem Passive Abilities:

Amethyst: Grants +10 additional damage to each attack by the construct

Aquamarine: Heals party for 3 health at the end of each round of combat

Diamond: Generates 5 gold per round of battle for the engineer

Emerald: Provides poison immunity for the party

Garnet: Provides party 5 SP

Opal: While first in battle order, grants the construct 10 SP

Ruby: Grants +20 health to the construct.

Sapphire: Restores 2 ether at the end of each round of combat for itself and engineer ONLY

Topaz: Enables counterstriking. Upon receiving a free hit, construct immediately attacks target for damage with strength equal to the engineer’s weapon power added to his or her level.

I like it, but I'm not sure if it isn't too much like the Evoker. (this was a problem I had with the class, too; I had considered it for a Lion Knight Expert Class, but ultimately I couldn't think of a way to make it useful in every battle if it didn't have some sort of summoned mechanical ally)

How about removing the gem/elemental aspect, and have it focus more on special effects, like bypassing Deense or Stunning the opponent and the like? Also, to further separate it from Evoker, the Engineer shouldn't be able to attack at all, but can choose to spend Ether either repairing the invention or upgrading it (by using a Scroll on it). That also decreases the "pseudo-permanent Hastened" nature, which is one thing that's rather unique about the Evoker class.

Engineer

I'm sorry, but that's just way, way, way too complicated for a single class. There's just too many variables and things to consider for a QM to make that class manageable. I really like the idea of a metal construct that the engineer would have to repair, but both the engineer's and the automaton's skill set needs a whole lot of sleeking up. I agree with Flipz that you should definitely get rid of including gems to the class, at least.

Very cool. I too would like it better if the engineer couldn't attack at all. I don't understand the suggestions to remove the gems. A player collects as many gems as they can/want then get to level 30, unlock this class and their gems are now useless?

They can be imbued into the construct's weapon at the normal rate, but as far as casting spells, I'd say no. This class, while open to all (I think), is not intended for Mages, at least in my opinion.

EDIT: Also, I think this class would be a good one to implement a "weapons take extra effort to switch" rule. In most classes, it wouldn't be too fair, but given the general indirect nature of the class I think it would both make sense (the Engineer has to manually switch the construct's weapons) and it fits the "feel" of the class.

No level ? *huh*

Great minds think alike.

I'm great! :sweet:

...I did think I mentioned such a thing in this thread already...I could be wrong though. :look:

Perhaps I could lend my mind to you for a time.

No level ? *huh*

I believe, since there is not likely to be much fighting, experieced heroes are not entirely necessary, am I correct?

Then what is your proposed solution for keeping each character's construct individually customized? With the gems, a player can make his or her construct a damage soak, damage dealer, a support to aid party, or balanced. It's an expert class, things should get somewhat harder for QMs as the game progresses. Still don't understand the problem but it's not my game. I'm just trying to play in it.

The construct could be fitted with the player's old weapons and artifacts, since the player won't be attacking directly anyway.

Would you mind terribly if I played around with the wording and formatting and posted the tweaks I come up with?

Yeah, somewhat harder!

With Xarrzan's class, the QM would have to take into consideration the Engineer's battle skills, his weapons, his artefacts, the Automaton's battle skills, the Rust-effect and the gems' passive abilities. And that's just for one player in one round of the battle.

I don't know about you, but I'm certainly not a machine that enjoys solving "little equations" like that.

But the class can certainly be worked upon, that's why I asked for streamlining instead of flat out turning it down.

This pitch is a bit too... plane.

Please elaborate it, either here or in a PM to me.

Keep them quest ideas coming! There's still several players left in the Hall, yearning for some questing.

I'll currently working on a quest idea that will be specifically for level 1-5 heroes (not only because that is the biggest need but because it makes it easier for me to stat enemies  ). I will probably be sending you a PM about it later this week unless my college work gets out of hand.

Quest Title: Bad Hair Day

Quest Master: Sloop

Assignment: You have certainly heard of the famous clothing line of the sorceress Fason Ista, and how at one time nobles and courtiers would not wear anything but the latest in Ista fashion. This has all changed in the past year when my employer (for in truth I am this witch's unfortunate assistant) suddenly when raving mad! My place of work has become a magical house of horrors and I even fear for my life. That is not the whole of the problem, but I want to tell you the rest when you arrive as it is a personal issue. - Silas Longbottom

Party Requirements: I want four inexperienced heroes (Preferably with a level less than 5 and certainly not more than 7 or 8) as the more famous ones are likely on more important business. I have no problems with any of the professions usually present in Heroica, and your reputation with the families doesn't effect me either.

Reward: 100 Gold each and one bonus level of XP.

Length: Short to Moderate.

Sounds intriguing. Just send me some more details, a few pictures and a couple of enemy stats in a PM, and we can discuss this some more.
