Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Should I give Combrys a nerfing? It is a WP 8 sword suitable for Barbarians, Rogues, and Knights. Every successful hit causes Combry's WP to go up by 1, while unsuccessful hits cause it to fall back to it's base WP. Now, as LEGOman273 pointed out, a nostrum and smelling salts would cause it to go up by 2 every round and increase the chances of a mug. You could essentially go frop a WP 8 to a WP 14 in 3 rounds, and make oodles of cash to pay for any consumables you may have used to get there. Did Sandy even know about that? Nerf it! At least make it go down by 1 WP each time it misses, not just to Base WP. Quote

I got Sandy's approval, yes - but I don't think either of us thought of the smelling salts/nostrum combo Erm... dropping only WP 1 is a buff compared to dropping to Base WP. It's base WP is what the WP is before it rises - in this case, 8. So if you got it to WP 12 and missed, it'd drop all the way back to 8. Quote

I thought you meant each unsuccessful hit brought it down by 1, with WP: 8 being the minimum. Try putting a maximum WP. Quote
Endgame Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Maybe I should just make it not upgradeable. That'd be the simplest and probably the most effective solution. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I think it's already a very cool mechanic and it doesn't need nerfing. Mystic Knights have the ability to increase their WP already, anyways, and you can still roll negative rolls with Nostrum in effect. Instead of a max WP, I'd disallow upgrading the base WP. Quote

I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible while keeping the "Combo" mechanic, and Sandy didn't really say it was in need of some sort of handicap, so I guess it'll remain as is. Lucky you, Daxus! EDIT: On second thought, I probably will make it un-upgradeable. I'm indecisive... Edited July 4, 2012 by Endgame Quote
CMP Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) I like it the way it is, you could hardly afford to get the WP past 10 if you wanted to buy enough Nostrums to keep it in good shape - and having it reset at the end of every battle is good enough to balance it. Endgame Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Argh differing opinions. I'd hate to see what Hybros would do if he got his hands on it... EDIT: Final verdict: Due to the fact how expensive it'll eventually get to upgrade combined with the 60-70 gold needed to have a nostrum and salts for every battle, it'll remain unnerfed! JimBee Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Argh differing opinions. I'd hate to see what Hybros would do if he got his hands on it... I haven't had time to read your quest yet, unfortunately, so I don't know what weapon you're talking about, but as an Assassin I could no longer use the consumable strategy that Rogues and Raiders can. So I'd be more worried about Guts or Dak getting it. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I like the sword as is Endgame, it's very similar to an item that I had initally planned out for a battle mage only piece of backwear. Quote

Although, against a Humanoid enemy, a Shield with that sword could do wonders for Dak's attack abilities, especially if he gets those other three shards of Mithril he needs to have a full chunk. Endgame Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 And daxus bites the dust... again. Am I being too cruel in Quest 36? Quote

Endgame Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I suppsoe. I'm trying to strike a balance between fair and challenging, but it looks as if the party may need to flee again. I suppose anything possible though - a single level 1 hero could trump the Death progg if he rolled shield enough. Quote
Myrddyn Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hey, I got knocked out first round of the first battle. That was just really bad luck. With a bit of good luck, we'll pull through and won't have to flee this battle. One of them is down, and another is almost down. Quote
Endgame Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I think your luck will turn up soon. I have something devilish for the final battle... assuming you guys make it. 75% there, give or take - don't give up yet! Quote
Jebediahs Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 @QMs who split parties and run quests in PMs: Do you have any plans to quote all that happens and post it somewhere for public viewing? Quote
Zepher Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 @QMs who split parties and run quests in PMs: Do you have any plans to quote all that happens and post it somewhere for public viewing? I always do. After my final post has sunk in I always post all side-quests, minus all posts in the PM conversation that are only OoC, or only battle actions. At the end of Quest 19 you can find all four pages of the PM Quest. I did not use this strategy for Quest 7, and I feel bad about it. I still have the PM conversation with Cornelius and have considered in the past editing it into the final post, but figured no one would ever go back to look. Quote
CMP Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Another Quest well-done, WBD. I really loved following it, it was like an extended Quest 11, but with an entirely different cast of both heroes and NPCs. Awesome loot and items, too. The only thing I think could be improved on was the underlying plot. The ending seemed a bit rushed, to me, you pretty much out and said Belthazar was the culprit once he started trying to cover it up. Maybe you were just trying to prevent a few days of clueless wandering like in your previous quest, though... In any case, this has been one of the best Quests to date, without a doubt, on account of both the rich atmosphere and the character roleplaying, though the fights were certainly varied too. Edited July 12, 2012 by CallMePie Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Thanks for hosting, WBD! I really liked how you worked in the unrelated events of civilian life in Eubric into the quest. I also think the quest had a good amount of freedom while keeping the objective clear and simple, something I can appreciate because I think I failed to do that in Quest 4. The enemies seemed well-balanced, though I'm sure Jeb threw that off with all his Shields. Finally, I have to respect the amount of auto-Rounds you were willing to run to keep things moving. Self-criticism: I think that I was a little inactive at times, notably at the end, when I wasn't active and it fell to Zeph to explain things to Szalinski. I also kind of felt that I was overall slow to respond or make a decision as the Party Leader. Quote
JimBee Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Agreed, awesome quest. Not only to Waterbrickdown, the host, but also the players. All of the roleplaying was absolutely amazing. I think I enjoyed reading this quest more than any other. Well done, all six of you. The loot was pretty cool (my favorite was Sword of the Vampir), and I liked the subplots. I agree with CallMePie, though, the end was a bit rushed, and it was obvious that Bluehood was the culprit. I had no idea who it would be, though I'm curious about any clues that pointed to him (if there were any I missed them ). Quote
