Zepher Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Big loot drop suggestion: I'm sure that my fellow QMs (along with me) are having a little trouble keeping weapons/loot manageable and unique. The four big ones (gold, gems, weapons, consumables) are ALWAYS good, and I really think we need to see more of them (more and more gold, or hosting will become harder and harder as more and more unique stuff pops up). However, I think there is ANOTHER good good item we could add to the mix: status causers. "A Honing Stone of Stunning", for example, once applied to a weapon, would give it the ability to stun people. They could be combined with already in use weapons, but would be great drops. I'm not saying they should be common, maybe one per quest at most, but they're really nice loot that's not game breaking, not OP, encourages further strategy/character optimization, and don't introduce any new mechanics that people would have to memorize/learn. Just a thought. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yes. I need a Honing Stone of Sealing to use on my Blinding Darksteel Crossbow. Quote
CMP Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Permanent, or temporary? Both sound great, I'm just wondering. The former would really be interesting. They wouldn't be game breaking, you'd just to be able to customize your weapons even further, crafting your own unique weapons out of them. Stuff like Mercutio's Blessing. I need a Honing Stone of Sealing to use on my Blinding Darksteel Crossbow. Didn't see that coming. I swear you were going to ask for Shield Polish of Immunity to <insert anything here>. I can already do that with Scrolls. I was thinking more along the lines of my new Crossbow Of Making Enemies Unable To Do Anything For Three Rounds. Quote
Zepher Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Permenant. Giving out just one a quest would be great. There are lots of weapons that could use it. If Ratsbane, for example, blinded people as well, well, that'd be great: it would be great loot (player happy), easy to balance for (QMs happy), using mechanics we already know (game happy). It's really a win-win-win. Quote
CMP Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Heck, I'd prefer those to unique weapons, especially because higher-levelled players usually have some of their best weapons at a considerable WP, and you can only boost that so many times. Edited March 11, 2013 by CallMePie Quote
Zepher Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yes. I also think we as a whole need to be more sparring with loot. At the beginning of the game we were all so excited, we wanted to give out tons of unique items and powers, but now some heroes have ridiculous stats and more artifacts than they can equip. I feel like these could take the place of everyone thinking up a new insane item/effect. Quote

I think finding new ways of using the existing mechanics is often the best way of making sure everyone stays happy. Quote

I love the idea of honing stones. Quote
Flipz Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 While I DO like the idea of permanent upgrades, I'd really, REALLY like to see some effect-based Venoms popping up more often. Just sayin'. Quote

Kintobor Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I'm a little confused as to how magic works in battle, and outside of battle. Outside of battle, if the character performs a spell that logically makes sense with the gem they have, if succeeds, at the cost of one ether. Is a d6 rolled to see if they are successful? And in combat, how does ether work? Quote

Carving your face in the stone if you have a garnet costs 1 ether, but making a bridge out of stones may cost more like 4 ether, depending on the length. In battle, a Mage may say: "I'd like to cast an earth spell, from the back row, with my garnet," and it deals as much damage as it says on the class description page (for a hit: WP of currently used item+Level Earth elemental damage) costing 1 ether. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited March 11, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote

(PS: I accidentally said Emerald in the last sentence instead of Garnet. Garnets are the earth gems, and Emeralds are the wood gems, but I'm sure you know that. I just don't want to confuse anyone. I have since fixed it.) ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

joeshmoe554 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I had a similar idea for a quest I am working on. I wanted to give out a few elemental weapons as they will be very useful in one of the battles, but the fight where I wanted to give out the weapons is a little ways before the boss fight. I thought it might be a good idea to drop color coded weapons as loot, and then drop a couple "engergizers" in the boss fight that would unlock the elemental properties of the weapons. Quote

Sounds needlessly complicated, to me. How would you drop these "energizers" in the middle of the battle, anyway? Unless you would be using the Quest#50 battle mechanic, of course. Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 They wouldn't be in the middle of the battle. The quest has a fight about half-way through with color-coded enemies. Those enemies drop weapons associated with their colors. Then the enemies in the "Boss Battle" drop energizers to unlock the elemental properties of the weapons. The blue weapon would be water based, the purple weapon would be darkness, etc. That way I could drop the weapons earlier in the quest, where they made sense with the enemies being fought, drop some decent loot in the boss fight (make the weapons elemental), and not give out a tremendous amount of loot overall.
