If you're looking to buy PF parts, get the 8043 excavator or the 8275 bulldozer. Both have a lot of PF parts and a load of useful technic parts which in total will be much cheaper than buying them separately.

Total in LEGO S@H = 90 bucks for these parts alone while the set can be had for just over a hundred and has 4 LA to boot.
