Hi there!

Today I applied lots of stickers. While doing it, I found myself thinking of another passion of mine: GIJoe!

Years ago, Hasbro would release the GIJoe vehicles completely unassembled - you had to build (almost) the whole thing. And you had to apply all the stickers.

Today, everything comes more or less assembled, and the stickers usually come already applied. It's not always for the best, to be quite honest... But they are there anyway.

So, what would you think if Lego applied all the stickers instead of having us doing it? Would you like that?

No, I wouldn't. Then I wouldn't get the option of having new sticker sheets saved up for when I do want to use them on an MOC.

It's a good question that comes up a lot.

When I got back into Lego, I didn't like stickers and thought printed pieces would be a much better idea. It can be tricky to get stickers positioned perfectly and it just takes a speck of dust and you've got a nasty air bubble to deal with.

However as I've moved into MOC'ing in the last year I've begun to appreciate the benefit of having the plain pieces without patterns applied so you can use them for other purposes. The flexibility outweighs the challenge of applying stickers.

Not to mention that it would give The LEGO Group an excuse to charge us more. Things like giving us the turntables in two parts instead of one was a good decision in my opinion.

Sometimes stickers go over multiple pieces, LEGO couldn't do that, or else they'd be building your building toy for you.

Applying stickers is half the fun. Yo Joe!

I prefer the printed tiles over the stickers. Sometimes the stickers are good but it really depends on the set. For example, I thought the stickers for the Maersk train set were good. I bought a bunch of World Racers sets at clearance and hate the stickers for those sets. I would also prefer to apply them myself. Many companies that pre-sticker have issues with machines not applying them accurately 100% of the time. As someone said earlier, they would charge us more to apply the stickers I'm sure.

I would have to agree with the Doc and say NO. I would like the choice to put them on and then when you do put the stickers on it adds to the building exeriance. I will still vote for printed over stickers but a least with stickers you can decide if you want them or take them off to use in a MOC. Ist a quick easy cheap way to get more details into Lego elements.

I forgot to say which option I like best -- and I go with Brickdoctor; I think it's better to have a sticker sheet and apply the stickers when -- and if -- you feel like it then having them applied by TLG.

I agree that applying stickers is part of the fun of building a set; I had a lot of fun doing it yesterday.

Stickers also add so much to any creation -- not only the official sets, but take a look at those MOCs with custom stickers (like Lightning Tiger's New Mannun Town Centre, Shell Service Station and Shopping Centre).

So, I like the printed pieces, but as we have to live with stickers, I'd reather apply them myself.

Stickers are nice... but only one stickers sheet per set is not nice... LEGO should put 2 or 3 stickers sheets with each set instead of theses boring posters, cards, etc.

Nope I want to choose if I put them on or not (I have a pile of about 50 sticker sheets somewhere awaiting MOCing)

I'd rather not apply the stickers as it gives me the chance to resell or trade to anyone who actually likes them (fools).

Anyway, I think the main reason printing is less expensive than stickers is the development cost of printing stuff on bricks as it requires whole more machinery and stuff. Applying stickers sounds as hard.

I hate when they do that... I always get a box cutter and cut them along the separate bricks. For the main question: on some applications I wouldn't mind, Like on a Fire Truck roof, centered sticker or on both sides of the tail of an airplane. Other than that, I prefer to deal with the stickers. I really wish they'd move to printed pieces opposed to sticker all together. "Just imagine..." default_classic.gif

I don't think they've done that for a year or so, though? I remember that on some '09 sets, however.

There's absolutely no reason I'd want TLG applying stickers to parts for me, for most of the reasons other people have mentioned. I'm generally in favor of stickers in a lot of applications, and am not the sort of person who considers printing superior in all situations. Pre-applied stickers would be just as pointless as printing in many situations, and would probably cost more considering how hard it would be for a machine to replicate the fine motor skills required for applying stickers to certain surfaces.
