I think it's fixed now, it's a bit hard for me to test properly where I am now. You will probably have to clear your browser cache before trying again.

It should be working now. I've tested it on the main browsers and they all download or ask what to do with the file. If it's still not working for you it is most likely your browser cache. Some of them are very persistent and hard to clear.

However, if you right click on the download link and choose Save As (or equivalent) you should be able to save it to a file easily enough.

Technicmad (Nathan Thom) posted this interesting article about Lego "Parts Use Statistics" on his Rebrickable blog:

"I have been calculating various statistics, trying to come up with some interesting charts to display on the site. I just completed the one below which I thought was a nice visual display of how TLG have changed over the years. Plus it’s a bit too complicated for me to code live on the site right now so figured a blog post would be best. :classic:

[CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO SEE THE FULL-SIZE CHART]

partusage-1024x380.jpg

"This chart shows the % breakdown of types of parts in all sets released each year. The different colors represent the different part types I use on Rebrickable. So for example, across all the sets released in 1956, 60% were Bricks and 40% were of type Other. If you are not familiar with what the part types are, check out the summary at the bottom of this page: http://www.rebrickable.com/profile/someidiot/stats .

"In the beginning all parts fall in the Other category. Then the original Bricks were introduced in 1954 and quickly took dominance over all other parts. In 1961 the first Plates were produced (and became very popular in the 60s). From 1965, Tiles were introduced and while they came and went a bit through the 70s, they have slowly risen in usage since 1980.

"Around the mid 1970s to 1982 the Technic theme was introduced and we begin to see the introduction of the various Axles, Pins, Gears and Connectors. But it wasn’t until about 1998 that their use became more common in other themes too. The studless Beams started appearing in 1987. As a Technic fan, these parts distinguish those sets I had as a kid vs adult. All my childhood sets were studded and all my adult sets are studless

"These days, the proportion of different types of parts is becoming more evenly spread. The humble 2×4 brick which formed the original patent is only a small % of the total offering.

"So any other stats you want to see?"

This might be a bit off-topic, but Technicmad, i hope you keep up the good work on your site.

I don't think legos own site is as great as yours.

Yours is simple, plain and has nice features.

So, this is my way to encourage you: keep up the good work!

Hey technicmad, if you're still thinking of a new name i got an idea, but I'm not sure if it's a good name or not. But what about brickagain.com? I'm pretty sure thats not already a site since google doesn't pull up anything.

It is available (for now!), but I think I'll just stick with what I have. I'm not sure what kind of future rebrick has and I've put a lot of effort into making the Rebrickable name known. For now I'll just wait and see how it plays out, but thanks for thinking of me :)

Well once the tragic day comes to where you do have to rename the site or whatever, you could just send out an email or something to all of the people signed up, and create a new topic on the forums saying that rebrickable.com is now ____.

And at first I wasn't so sure about the site, but I didn't really stay on it long enough to understand it. But now that I do understand what the sites for I think it was a great idea to even try to get a site like this started! Plus if Lego does have their own, yours is better because you include MOCs in yours, where Lego wouldn't. And you also include a parts database that has parts that have been discontinued (i.e. Bionicle, Throw Bot, Slizer parts, or any other "exclusive" Technic subtheme part)

Are you going to add HiTechnic/Mindsensors/Dexter Ind./etc. to your parts library?

jojoguy10

If there are some missing then I will definitely add them. I'm not sure what these parts are though, do you have example Bricklink links?

This is the only one (HiTechnic). Other than that, nothing else is on BL. Can you link to HiTechnic's product page instead (give it a new product ID)? This applies to ALL NXT sensor manufacturers.

Thanks!

There are already part numbers and names assigned to those sensors in LDraw, such as ms1034 for "Electric Mindstorms NXT Compass Sensor (Complete)". You could use those to avoid having the same part with different names in different contexts.

True. I didn't know that :-)

Also, technicmad, is it possible to share your inventory (sets or parts)?

Thanks!

@technicmad

You have a great site! Thanks for doing this. I found it quite by accident as I don’t normally read too much in the Technic and Mindstorms area too often anymore. You really should get the word out in the General News Forum.

If you believe that TLG might be looking at you with a legal eye, maybe it might be better to be proactive.

Contact TLG and ask them about your name, if they feel it can be a trademark confusion and let them know that you would like to work with them toward mutual benefit.

If it goes to a legal matter, the site may get shuttered and that would be bad. But if you take the initiative maybe things can be saved.

So....I'm sorting my pieces and putting them into Rebrickable. How can I find sets that I can build using JUST "My Parts" list? When I go to "Build", it wants me to enter in sets I own, but I want it to look at JUST "My Parts" list.

Thanks!

Every set has export options, currently in Basebrick and HTML table formats, I will add more later. Is this was you mean?

I did post it to one of the general forums but it didn't gather much interest so was buried pretty quickly. I don't want to start any new posts about it or the moderators will frown upon the spamming.

You can't yet :( What you can do is just tick My Parts and put a single old set which doesn't have anything useful eg 1233-2. Since I added the My Parts list later, a lot of the core code relies on working with sets so it's actually a big change to make them optional. I will do it eventually :)

Hello, thanks for this great site.

A very useful tool to choose sets and see what others sets we can "almost" build.

The evolution with using onlys parts list will be really great too ...

Well, I meant share via Facebook, or Email, or Twitter, etc.

Oh :D At the top right corner of each set page there are +1 and Like buttons. They don't seem to get used much so was actually thinking of removing them. Is there some other sharing button you'd prefer to see?

No no no. lol. I meant "My Parts" or "My Sets". I want to share those via Facebook, twitter, Email, etc. :-)

P.S. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused, lol!
