"Can't see any reason why not. I'm still holding my breath for a Mug, she's got a lot of coins."

Atramor swings the Chain Whip at Umbra Shadaeux from the front row.

Posted

Eric hacked at the Shadeaux woman. She put up a heavy defense, but he managed to land a few bloodletting hits. Eric's blood boiled, he hoped to unleash another one of his frenzies to aid the party, but his bloodrage was fickle and unpredictable. In any case, he prepared himself to defeat Ubmra. He raised his sword high in the air and yelled something Norse at her.

Eric will attack Umbra from the front row.

We did well that round. Let's hope we can keep it up! Three and three sounds good, Alexis.

Battle order:

Alexis

Hybros

Atramor

Eric

Boomingham

Runfindel

I'll attack the remaining doggy, from the Front Row.

Heh, I'm glad we disposed of those beasts right away. Let's not count our chickens before they hatch though. Including that one under your hat, Atramor.

I'll attack the dog from the front, leaving someone more powerful to deal damage to Umbra.

Results of the Second Round of the Umbra Battle:

>Alexis vs. Guard Hound B - Hit

Hybros vs. Guard Hound B - Special Damage

Atramor vs. Umbra Shadeaux - Hit

Eric vs. Umbra Shadeaux - Special Damage

Boomingham vs. Umbra Shadeaux - Shield

Rufindel vs. Guard Hound B - Shield

The battle goes on to the second round. Alexis shoots the remaining Guard Hound for 9 damage. The Guard Hound safeguards Umbra, so Atramor's following attack on her has no effect. A Cloud of Darkness conjured by Umbra surrounds Eric, rendering him blind and thus unable to attack with his weapon for three turns. Lord Boomingham sees best to take the Sentinel-position to secure everyone's health for the next round, while Rufindel receives a Miracle that proves to be useless as everyone is at full health.

Two enemies still remain. The party has one more round to finish the battle or flee, or the quest will fail.

Enemies:

Umbra Shadeaux

Type: Humanoid

Level: 6

Health: 21/30

Special:
Cloud of Darkness
– Causes the blinded-effect on the target, making it unable to use a physical attack for the next three turns or until remedied.

Drops: 50 gold, 1 Fleuret (WP: 4, suitable to knights and rogues), 1 Shadeaux Shield (SP: 4, suitable to knights)

Guard Hound B

Type: Beast

Level: 4

Health: 5/14

Special:
Safeguard
– The next attack against another enemy will miss.

Drops: 1 Bone

Party Leader, choose the order of action.

All of you, choose your targets and the row you want to fight in. Also mention if you want to try to flee, heal or cast a magic spell, or if you want to use an item instead of attacking.

Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone have acted.

Note that the battle may not last more than three rounds, or the quest will fail. The party can also prevent this by fleeing.

Posted

Well, we can win this in one more round, but only with a bit of luck. Our track record doesn't suggest luck is on our side. Should we flee? Everyone's opinion please, and quickly!

Posted

This is the moment of truth, friends. I think either Alexis or I should try to flee, just in case our attacks are unsuccessful. That's a toss-up with the choice of all of us attacking, and failing the quest if we don't win in one round. Remember that Eric cannot attack this round (our strongest ally, too...).

If we flee, the Rogue(s) who attempts to do so should go last.

Either way, I think Alexis should target the beast, since she has the chance of attacking both enemies. Everyone else should either flee or attack Umbra.

Does this sound like a good plan?

I think we either all flee, or all attack.

The party is reminded that the only way they all can flee is if Alexis uses her Smoke Bomb. Otherwise Atramor and Hybros can attempt to flee, but that will not save the rest of the party from getting arrested. It will prevent the quest from failing, though.

Right.

I think we should all attack except for Alexis (and Eric), who will go last and use her smoke bomb. I wonder if we'll all land hits, and if we don't win after the four attacks, Alexis will help us flee. Or will we flee no matter when Alexis goes?

If it's the latter, then I think we should all attack.

That's a great plan, Hybros. I don't know if it'll work, but it might be worth a try, if the Voice in the Sky will let us.

Posted

"Agreed. This is why I like Hybros! I knew there was a reason we kept you around!" Boomingham attempts to give his little friend a pat on the head. "But I'm confident in our ability here! Tell you what, I'll bet you five gold that we win this round. Assuming the voice in the sky allows our plan, I will attack our friend Umbra from the front row."

Posted

As long as the plan of using the smoke bomb as a last resort works, Alexis, use the smoke bomb. If not, attack the dog.

I'll attack Umbra from the front row.

Posted

Items are used on their specified turn, so if the battle is over before the user's turn comes, the item will not be used.

The blinded Eric still gets a turn, he just cannot hit any of the enemies with his weapon.

Posted

Excellent, then Alexis, you should use your smoke bomb and go last. I'm thinking the rest of us should target Umbra, with Boomingham going first, then Eric (I'm not sure what he can do without a weapon, unfortunately, since we don't really need to use any items), then Atramor and I, then Rufindel, and finally Alexis. We can't take any free hits with Boomingham in the Sentinel position, and this way we don't have to target the dog if we don't have to (if it uses it's Safeguard ability to protect Umbra).

By the way, sorry if I seem bossy, I know I'm not the leader here. I just really want to win this.

Don't worry, it's a great plan!

Battle order:

Boomingham

Eric

Atramor

Hybros

Runfindel

Alexis

Eric and Alexis, go in the back row. Alexis, use your Smoke Bomb. Eric, do... something? Have a cup of tea or something  Everyone else attack Umbra from the Front Row. The dog will get a free hit if it's still alive, but it shouldn't matter, as Hybros says, because of the Sentinel.

Posted

"Aaargh!" Eric roared as Umbra's underhanded attack hit. Dust flew into his eyes, blinding. He dropped his sword and kept on rubbing his eyes, but nothing helped. He vision remained blurry. He fell on his knees to search where he had dropped Godricsleif. It didn't take too long before he had retrieved his sword. With the help of one of his companions Eric got back up, but all was still black. Unsure of where the enemy was at, he raised his sword, but there wasn't much he could do. The helplessness greatly angered the fiercely independent Nord. Now, at a time when the party needed his help most, he had to let them down.

OOC: What should I do? I can't attack and I don't really need to take a potion, so how should I use my turn? :sceptic:

"Eric, you should sing us a motivational song, or do a dance to distract Umbra! Also, doesn't someone need to target the dog? If it is not defeated, won't the guards come anyway? Clarification voice o' the sky."

We're hoping that either we'll defeat Umbra and someone's attack will carry over to the dog, or the smoke bomb will allow us all to flee.

Posted

Eric, hang in there. You should probably try to attack Umbra, even though it won't have an effect. It's the only thing you can do right now.

Results of the Round Three of the Umbra Shadeaux Battle:

Boomingham vs. Umbra - Hit

>Eric vs. Umbra - Miss

Atramor vs. Umbra - Critical Hit

Hybros vs. Umbra - Hit

Rufindel vs. Umbra - Hit

>Alexis uses Smoke Bomb

The final possible round of the battle begins. Lord Boomingham protects everyone with his Sentinel-position, and then swings his sword at the Shadeaux heiress, razing 9 damage from her. Eric is blinded, and thus misses his attempted attack. Atramor scores a critical hit on Umbra, causing 14 damage and knocking her out. There is one guard hound remaining, and the rest of the party turn their attention to it. Hybros takes care of it, and wins the battle for the party.

THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS!

All members of the party get a level of experience. The enemies drop 50 gold, one Fleuret, one Shadeaux Shield and three bones.
