DrWeevil Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Interesting you say that about TheHut - I had the opposite problem. I ordered a PC game and a large Lego set at the same time, but then found the same Lego set at a cheaper price locally. As it was still listed as 'processing' I tried to cancel the order - as their website stated was possible, prior to dispatch. THREE times I tried to cancel the Lego part of the order, to be told each time that it was 'Too Late' as the order was being dispatched - only the order was still 'processing' for another THREE DAYS! The game ended up shipping almost a week before the Lego did (ie over a week after I ordered it and 6 days after requesting an order cancellation) - I received the game two weeks ago, and it's now coming up to a month after being 'dispatched' and I still don't have my Lego set (or should I say second copy of the set I already own!). I've only ordered from them once before, when the set was 60% off aus rrp, but I would really seriously consider buying from them again. They're almost in the same category as Fishpond...
Splat Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Yeah, I'm aware of The Hut's (poor) reputation. I have ordered from them once before, and part of that previous order was the 8043 Technic Excavator, which was listed as able to be shipped within 3 days. I received the rest of the order (except the 8043), but even those took 5 weeks to get to me. After waiting about 10 weeks, the 8043 still hadn't been shipped, so I cancelled that part of the order, and got it from Amazon.fr instead. As I had paid with Credit Card, my card hadn't been charged yet, so I didn't have to try and get a refund or make a PayPal claim. As DrWeevil mentioned, I would also put The Hut and Fishpond in the same category - only order from them if they have something at a price that you can't resist, and you don't mind if they don't deliver (literally). In this case, I'm trying to get a set that I can't get anywhere else at a decent price, and hasn't been released in Australia yet. If The Hut don't pull through, I'll just wait and buy it locally (during a sale of course) or online somewhere else. I'll provide an update when (if?) my order arrives.
TheDarkness Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 A placed an Amazon.it order the other day, and they had the 20 euro shipping for the lot. Had a look now at a new order and am getting slugged about 35 euro a set.

Had a look now at a new order and am getting slugged about 35 euro a set. Yep, looked likes they've just skyrocketed their postage prices.. just as a few good sets are in stock Ah well, I wonder where's next for the bargains..

That was the last true "cheap" Amazon shipping supplier since all the others have jacked up their prices also. The dream/buying was good whilst it lasted. RIP cheap shipping
AvengerDr Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm Italian but I live in the UK.. I just noticed that as well! And although I'll be heading there for a weekend at the end of the month, I'd have the problem of bringing the stuff back. Damn you Ryanair! :D

Clone-Trooper Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Certainly Italy has to worry about more than just $2 billion dollars debt ;) How right you are kind Sir, my $2 Billion was infact supposed to be $2 Trillion to those financially minded :-)
greenpaw Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Does anyone have experience Pre-ordering from Barnes and Noble? I noticed they have the Lord Of the Rings and Marvel Super Heroes sets up for preorder now and: a)They actually ship overseas and b)The shipping is very reasonable I ordered 8 of the upcoming sets including Helms Deep and the Quinjet (the two largest from each theme) and the total shipping was $57 for Priority shipping. You also get 10% off the expected RRP. Apparently they don't charge credit cards until shipping so if the order falls through then no loss but if it comes through I will be happy! Still it would be nice to know sooner rather than later if they have a habit of cancelling Preorders from overseas. Cheers Inger

Cheers Inger Greenpaw, I can almost guarantee you will not get your sets through pre-order with B&N. Around this time last year, there were big discussions of people (including me) of having the purchase on the credit card and then they unilaterally cancelled everyone's orders, they will eventually take off the payment but they are slow. This was the case for both US people and others like so many of us in Aus that purchase from overseas. To save yourself some heartache, I'd just cancel them now and keep a close eye on their website when they actually become available. The new superheroes sets were up there recently for a while until they sold out. Also if you used any sort of discount voucher they may just cancel all or part of your order with some pathetic excuse as they don't like honouring them. It may be worth your time to search for "BN" here to see if you can track down any of what went on last year. The customer service at BN is terrible, and I have no idea why they list items as pre-order when they cancel them with the most feeble of excuses.
Splat Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) A placed an Amazon.it order the other day, and they had the 20 euro shipping for the lot. Had a look now at a new order and am getting slugged about 35 euro a set. Just to see what I could get away with, I added 2 x 8110 Unimogs and 2 x 8043 Excavators to my Amazon.it cart. They both will ship to Australia, but have quantity limitations of 2 each. Anyway, I got to the last page of ordering, and almost fell off my chair: Articoli (Articles) : EUR 487,38 Costi di spedizione (Shipping costs) : EUR 225,04 <-- Totale IVA esclusa (Total excluding tax) : EUR 712,42 IVA (VAT/tax) : EUR 0,00 Totale ordine (Order Total) : EUR 712,42 The shipping has gone from about EUR 20,00 to EUR 225,04 - that's an additional 46% of the cost of the Articles in this case! *sigh* I guess the cheap shipping at Amazon (.com, .fr, .co.uk, .fr, and now .it) has dried up. It was good while it lasted though... Edit: It should be noted that the Australian RRP for these 4 sets is AU$ 1,359.96, so you would still be saving 35.6% by ordering these via Amazon.it (EUR 712.42 = AU$ 875.01). On another note: I got an email from The Hut stating that my order has been dispatched, and I should get it in 7-14 days. I'll provide another update when my shipment arrives. Hewman Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 *sigh* I guess the cheap shipping at Amazon (.com, .fr, .co.uk, .fr, and now .it) has dried up. It was good while it lasted though... Amazon.fr isn't too bad (compared to amazon.it) But you really need to only order high value sets to get decent shipping rates. Oh and another note to greenpaw, Barnes and Noble when they do ship are extremely slow (once dispatched, and even with mid-range shipping option) and most likely some of the boxes of the sets will be crushed to some extent.
Esurient Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 No one trusts BN anymore. The only people who benefit from their sales are people living in the U.S. or close to U.S.. Shipping to AU is like going round the world and no one likes it when your parcels get beaten up.
greenpaw Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Oh well it was worth a try. I have ordered from them before, but never a preorder. Thanks for the feedback guys-it's great to have this community experience, even if it is bad news :-) Cheers
TheDarkness Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 For those interested, the 10212 Imperial Shuttle UCS is at Amazon.it for 186.26 You get slugged a whopping 75 euros for freight, however, it still comes out at a final price of around the $280-290 Australian mark, which is still a significant savings on the RRP here

Shipping to Finland is only 13,53 euros.. .. .. Just promised after x-mas that I won't buy legos other than with good discounts... :I
Bigmonty Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Purchased a couple of shuttles from Amazon.it for approx £198 each which is a big saving on the £245 from lego.com
AvengerDr Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Yeah it was a good find :) I hope they had enough for all of us.. I'll let you know on monday whether they shipped my two shuttles.. As of now, it's gone back at 245 Euros from a third party seller.
TheDarkness Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Wow. They didn't last long! I still check the amazon sites everyday just in case a bargain really slips through. It's about time I properly sourced the pet shop I think, I need to add it to my modulars. Just a shame amazon.it wouldn't ship it to Australia before the shipping cost jump.
jonwil Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Can anyone tell me if there is an online store or other overseas option that: 1.Has the new TIE Fighter 2.Ships it to Australia 3.Takes VISA (without needing to go through PayPal) and 4.Will be able to get it here cheaper than the AU$89.99 RRP of the set Or am I going to have to put up with the high AU price of the thing and forget about getting one?

This may have changed since yesterday but barnes and noble had it, would be less than $65 inckuding shipping. Personally I'd wait for a 20% off sale in Aus and pay $71-72, also you will probably get it sooner and definitely in better condition.

Just a minute ago I ordered one from B&N for $A55 (incl shipping). (Past orders have turned up in good condition and in a reasonable time.)
AvengerDr Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 It looks like that on Amazon.it the Imperial Shuttle (#10212) is back in stock at the discounted price. My order seems to be on its way to me!
TheDarkness Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 The 10221 Super Star Destroyer is available at Amazon.fr. Sadly though, they won't ship it to Australia at this time
greenpaw Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Boxes of Series 6 Minifigures are back in stock at Amazon France. They are EUR 115 shipped express to Australia which is about $140 total Is it me or is this the best series so far? I think the Genie, Sleepyhead and the Roman Soldier are favourites. The 10221 Super Star Destroyer is available at Amazon.fr. Sadly though, they won't ship it to Australia at this time Thanks for that - Please let us know if they change their mind about shipping to Oz!!! I want to add it to my (in the mail) Imperial Shuttle
