AwesomeTaylor Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I've fallen in love with the 16 wide style, so i decided to take some of my existing sets and adapt them. Now I have some unique buildings that I think have retained most of their style and charm, and I have more space to place some new buildings in the future! My street of 16 wide modulars Grand Emporium, Green Grocer, Medievil Market Village and Fire Brigade This is the backside fo the Fire Brigade and Market Village Pub The rear shows the Grand Emporium and the Green Grocer The Fire Brigade The firebrigade is deep, using most of the pieces from the set The ground floor is the garage, housing the engine (barely) and all the tools needed for maintenance When the bell sounds, the garage door raises to allow the engine out Upstairs retains most of details of the official set, with the kitchen and sofa for relaxing, and the stairway to roof access The Medieval Market Village In this pub, beer is served direct from the keg. The boxer has come to drown his sorrows after loosing his latest match just hours ago This man is determined to drink all he can! The middle floor is a snooker area, where the girl watches her date set the table He will let her win The top floor is a storage room, I don't have enough barrels to furnish it fully yet. The dragon is just hanging out The Green Grocer A little ugly, but it works The first floor needs some new tiles for the expanded floor A shot inside the door The fireplace has been retained The living space is a little cramped for a family, might wanna get a bigger bed. And loose the kid! The Grand Emporium A woman picks out new clothes from the rack The wedding outfits are displayed on the first floor The middle floor sells housewares The view out the window is great, and the extra light makes the whole shop more inviting The top floor keeps the chandelier and has an expanded toy section, with lots of Lego The kids make their choice as the dad worries about cost! Finally… A sunny view of them all Quote
Holodoc Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Wonderful and very inspiring! And you adapted the interior as well - great! Thank you for sharing your terrific idea. I would tear my heart in two pieces if I did that with my modular street though. Quote
McBuddha Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Hi Awesome Taylor! This is just magnificent! The pool table is my favourite. :) I admire your braveness, resizing them all into really cozy and neat houses. Well done! I wonder what you will be able to construct with the parts you took away! Cheers from Sweden -dB Quote
scottwb2010 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Excellent adaptation of the full modulars. My personal favourite is the Fire Station. Very American as you see in New York. Very narrow with the fire engine just squeezing into the appliance hall. Fits in peerfect to a tight inner city street scape. Quote
L@go Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I'll agree with Holodoc here - I could never bear to do this to my modular street. But that said, I'm very impressed with the way you've managed to stick to the style of the originals and retain most of the interior, even adding some details, in the 16-wide versions. Very well done. Quote
Mr Benn Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 A great job here - very tempting to try and do the same with my own MMV, it's screaming out to be turned into a pub! All you need for your fire station is a Ghostbusters sign on the side... Quote
dr_spock Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Awesome. You did a wonderful job converting to 16 wide. The pool table is my favorite too. Quote
22kane Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Great buildings! The interior details are superb! Great job! Quote
sonicstarlight Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 These are really great! I think the Fire Brigade made the transition the best, but the Grand Emporium looks remarkably good considering it started as a corner building. The interiors are also very well done and you managed to fit in a lot of the original detailing without it feeling cramped. Like others have said, I couldn't bear to do this with my set of modulars, but honestly I wouldn't mind some of these mixed in with them. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Sheer beauty and function, the fire station takes the cake as the most realistic, as well as the green grocer.....very real looking ! Wonderful work 'AwesomeTaylor', now you have inspired this tiger to rebuild his GG into a 16 wide one too ! Brick On ! Quote
streifen Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 i thought the 16-wide were really well-done! all the features are still there & they do look cuter than the 32-wide originals! Quote
Vindicare Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Very cool, now let's see you convert the 2 part Pet shop into 16x32 models. this are all great, squished versions of the official ones. Quote
TanTile Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 This style of 16 wide is very pleasant to look at, color me impressed!! You have done a brilliant job!! Quote
Si-MOCs Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 That is freak'n fantastic! Fantastic work Quote
Cecilie Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Great job converting those buildings to 16-wide! Nice touch to add the MMV in there too, as it's not a modular building to begin with. It's great to see that not everyone is so frightened to take their modular houses apart in order to make them into their own creations. It is what LEGO is for after all, taking it apart, and building something new. Quote
Lord Admiral Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Very cool. The fire house is particularly good. In fact, it looks better and more like what a fire house should look like (IMHO) than the official one. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 A fantastic job, love the integration of the MMV into the street as well. Quote
AwesomeTaylor Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 Wonderful and very inspiring! And you adapted the interior as well - great! Thank you for sharing your terrific idea. I would tear my heart in two pieces if I did that with my modular street though. Thanks! That's the best part about Lego, I have the parts and the instructions so I could go back if I wished to :D Hi Awesome Taylor! This is just magnificent! The pool table is my favourite. :) I admire your braveness, resizing them all into really cozy and neat houses. Well done! I wonder what you will be able to construct with the parts you took away! Cheers from Sweden -dB There are very fer parts left, surprisingly! In a few places I had to pull from my own stash too, but the extra windows from moving to 16 wide came in handy! Excellent adaptation of the full modulars. My personal favourite is the Fire Station. Very American as you see in New York. Very narrow with the fire engine just squeezing into the appliance hall. Fits in peerfect to a tight inner city street scape. I was pleased with how it turned out, I tried very hard to fit a door on the front but it all worked out well regardless! I was tempted to use the large black doors from the back of the original, but the bright red garage door was just too good looking! A great job here - very tempting to try and do the same with my own MMV, it's screaming out to be turned into a pub! All you need for your fire station is a Ghostbusters sign on the side... Yes, I've been planning on doing this for a while. Someone on this forum made a great 32wide pub using it, so I tried very hard to make mine it's own quaint little design :) Awesome. You did a wonderful job converting to 16 wide. The pool table is my favorite too. Thanks! I don't take credit for the pool table, someone actually posted on here an .ldd model of it that I then changed a little for stability. I downloaded it in January when I first started building and just had to find a way to include it! Great buildings! The interior details are superb! Great job! Thank you so much! These are really great! My favourite part about the Emporium is moving to 6wide arches and showing off that great iron work in the windows :D Sheer beauty and function, the fire station takes the cake as the most realistic, as well as the green grocer.....very real looking ! Wonderful work 'AwesomeTaylor', now you have inspired this tiger to rebuild his GG into a 16 wide one too ! Brick On ! Yes, the Green Grocer looks great alongside the Pet Shop with the similar brick work. I plan to make the other half into a 16wide apartment complex, but am waiting on some new bricks to arrive first so it can be in a new colour :) i thought the 16-wide were really well-done! all the features are still there & they do look cuter than the 32-wide originals! Not only cuter, but brighter and more colourful too, I think because the eyes can take them all in at once. Very cool, now let's see you convert the 2 part Pet shop into 16x32 models. this are all great, squished versions of the official ones. Haha - I actually had an idea to do that, but changed my mind after I started to alter these ones. I may give it a go a little bit later in the year though if I can come up with an interesting way to tie them together :) This style of 16 wide is very pleasant to look at, color me impressed!! You have done a brilliant job!! Thank you so much!! That is freak'n fantastic! Fantastic work Thanks! This makes the late nights worth it :D Great job converting those buildings to 16-wide! Nice touch to add the MMV in there too, as it's not a modular building to begin with. It's great to see that not everyone is so frightened to take their modular houses apart in order to make them into their own creations. It is what LEGO is for after all, taking it apart, and building something new. Indeed, the MMV was too nice a set to leave out of my display. And my GF got it for me before I had started to get into building for myself, so I felt I had to do something with it. A pub seemed a natural choice for the style! Very cool. The fire house is particularly good. In fact, it looks better and more like what a fire house should look like (IMHO) than the official one. It's the one I was most worried about, due to loosing the door, but it turned out well, especially in the middle of a street :) A fantastic job, love the integration of the MMV into the street as well. Thanks! And a huge thank you to everyone for commenting, and for getting this posted to the front page! What what a wonderful surprise to wake up to! Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Very good work! It reminds me of an old TV show, Trumpton. Quote
Ondra Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) More better than offical sets.I like 16 wide, 32 is too big. Edited August 22, 2011 by Ondra Quote
Jim Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 It took me a while to see what's "wrong" with this picture Love your 16 wide modification!!! Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Very inspiring! This really makes me want to get the Fire Brigade now. And I will agree, that pool table is really neat looking. Quote
P4trickvH Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 At first glans very well done, and only after looking at it a bit longer you notice the scale difference with the original buildings. Quote
Flare Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Very nice! I love my modular buildings and I must say, you did an excellent job transforming these to "skinny" versions! Quote
