Hemish Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Reported as well, its amazing that ppl cant see through their crap
Grisambre Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I don't understand the scammers. Are they so dumb ? Why just don't change the product they are selling, since they know now everybody is watching them about the Lego stuff ? Just sell, I don't know, playmobils for a change ;-) I am a (dumb) victim of one of the first scams in late August, the one from HK. To my defense, I have bought plenty of things (including lego) within the past 10 years on Ebay (including at very low prices), and never been screwed. Hard way to learn a lesson... FYI, and just because I am curious, the last items coming from UK, I just contacted the seller and asked for an actual picture of the seller, the item, and a calendar or a newspaper of the day... Will let you know if I get anything ! I have heard that several legitimate (professional) sellers have also been victims of the scam : the 10179 is also sold on Alibaba.com in 10-packs. Some professionnals (and dumb sellers) bought them, and immediatly put the items back, sold as single units, on Ebay, knowing that they had received a tracking number for the items, and buying from professionals to professionnals they assumed that would reveived and send back ASAP the items. Many professionnals do that : sell things before they actualy receive it. Double screw : never received the items, and right know have to pay back the ebay users, they store beeing screwed as well because of several bad notes they recevied... Sorry for my bad english ;-) PS : I have received a tracking number too for my 10179, and should know by tomorrow if I am the new lucky owner of a brand new USB cable as well... Will let you know. However, if at the post office they are asking for anything like customs tax, I will refuse the package !
into the blue Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I have received a tracking number too for my 10179, and should know by tomorrow if I am the new lucky owner of a brand new USB cable as well... Will let you know. However, if at the post office they are asking for anything like customs tax, I will refuse the package ! Ah, it was only us lucky people who fell for the Dodgy Death Star deal that received a USB cable. Several friends of mine who go caught by the UCS Falcon deal only received a Chinese silk purse. Nowhere NEAR as nice as a USB cable. They're so jealous. Its amazing that ppl cant see through their crap What you don't understand is that you are lucky to have such a great community here who have seen this kind of thing before and are able to pass on information regarding these scams. Whenever they pop up on eBay, word spreads quickly, which is great if you're a member here. But a lot of Lego collectors aren't members here, they simply don't know about the scams and the rip-offs. Personally, I went about things the wrong way round, I bought one of the Death Stars, then immediately after, found this place. And that's when I discovered I'd been conned. So while it's all very well to say "Jeez, you must be dumber than a bag of spanners if you fell for this one!" please bear in mind that not everyone has the collected wisdom of the forum. I'm not having a pop at you personally. I'm just saying that it's easier than you think to fall for these deals. Still no news on my Paypal case btw.

into the blue Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I beat you all! I received a 64Gb usb key. Wow, that's actually useful! They're at it again. Reported.
Grisambre Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) PP asked me to return it for refund. Told them it was a bad idea, as of course the address they provided looks a little bit like "father christmas, north pole" and will not likely reach anyone. So they insisted and I thought that maybe I'll send them a nice picture of my (sensored). Then I opened the 64Gb USB key to test it (my poor benefit...) and realized that it's failed. So no, it's useless Those guys are so good... Edited October 3, 2011 by Grisambre

1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 At least these scams seem to be limited to the most expensive and popular Lego sets, so it's not that hard to be on guard.

Lobot Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Well spotted! They're also 'selling' Death Stars & Robotic vacuum cleaners (they seem to like these for some reason! ) Standard, low value feedback, total scam

moop Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 A little off-topic but I'm new so forgive me. I didn't see anywhere else to post this on the forum and I really didn't want to start a new thread but if that would be better please let me know.I have a buyer who I believe is trying to scam me with a Lego lot I sold him. He says that the mini-figs included in the lot are mostly cracked and damaged but they weren't when I shipped it to him. Here's the listing for reference. I'm just wondering if anyone has dealt with this type of thing before when selling a bunch of pieces in a lot? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220864991534&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

I see you have a few negs due to poor packaging. Can you ask him to provide a photo of the damaged items? I think one thing you definitely have going for you is the detail in the pictures you posted with the listing so he can't just pull out old damaged figs he already has a take a photo of them as it will be obvious they are not the same ones. MCNwakeboard Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I think he got a pretty good deal for the amount of figures and pieces in the auction. They were listed as used and Lego do tend to crack over time. I would call his bluff and have him send it all back for a refund.

(Check the small of the back) Although this could suggest the buyer could have also seen this before buying. Callum
moop Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) Just a note, from the photos I can actually tell some of the figures are cracked. (Check the small of the back) Although this could suggest the buyer could have also seen this before buying. Callum I guess I see it, but only really on the one star wars rebel pilot... My concern was the buyer who asked how I wanted to handle a refund. I'm just not sure because I'm concerned I won't get back every piece if he wants to do a full exchange for a refund especially as I don't exactly have an inventory for 12 lbs of Lego.. That's why I was intrigued about what you more experienced buyers and sellers thought. They were packed in the tupperware container in the pic and boxed up and any dead space inside the box was filled with bubble wrap so as not to be loose. I priced them to sell so I probably will call his bluff and ask to send them all back for a full refund. My other feedbacks were items that were carefully packed but fragile and marked that way on the box. They were all insured because of that so there was no need for the feedback as the buyers were re-imbursed for everything. I don't try to rip people off so I'll just see what this guy says. My biggest problem was he asked me what I'd like to do for a refund. I mean, I don't want to do anything for refund so I'm not sure why he's asking me instead of telling me what he would like. I feel like he's fishing for a partial refund or to see if I'll push back on him. I just don't want to screw someone over so advice from people who buy this stuff more often than I do is pretty nice. Thanks for the info and feel free to add to the comments if you've got any input. Edited October 6, 2011 by moop
into the blue Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Good news everyone! Firstly yes, I realise I sound like Professor Hubert J Farnsworth from Futurama with that opening line. Secondly, after a month of waiting for Paypal to deliberate on my case, there has been some movement. The actual movement was instigated by me, phoning up Paypal this morning to see what was happening. After explaining the circumstances I was told I had two options. I could either contact the police and give them all the details of what's happened and obtain a crime case number. Or I could send the USB cable back to the dirty rotten scoundrel in China. Now to be honest, the overworked police force have got better things to do with their time than investigate this, so I plumped for option B. Paypal gave me the seller's address (which was in Chinese, but thanks to Google translate this wasn't a problem) and now all I have to do is send it back within the next ten days. Here's part of the email Paypal sent me: After carefully reviewing your case, we've determined that you'll be eligible for a refund (including postage and packing) once you've returned the merchandise to the seller. Once you have returned the merchandise, you will be covered under PayPal Buyer Protection and eligible to receive a full refund. Lookin' good.
Grisambre Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) Well, more or less the same here. However, the (self censored) chinese guy of course didn't give a real address. PayPal told me that they would be checking my package untill it is showing as "delivered". However, I told them that they should not expect it to be ever "delivered" to an unexisting address... They just answered to keep the post office form with tracking number showing that the package was actualy sent to the "provided address", and that would be enough for them. So keep the damn paper...
