jonwil Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 The clock in the Cars set was a sticker on a 6 x 6 tile. This looks like a 6 x 6 radar dish. Wouldn't be the first time a new print has been done for a d2c set, the Tower Bridge got a new print for the shields at the top and the Kingdoms Joust got new prints for the black falcon shield and horse armor thing. BrickUpdate Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 @Badsneaker do you have a link to the picks of Jamie's original design. I remember seeing them a long time ago, but can't find them. Thanks! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Four words: >>>Back to the Future>>>! This will probably be my first ever modular building. Thanks for the great news mikey26! Quote
Alywin Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for the pictures! Overall speaking, the Town Hall is good, enough to attract buyers including myself (if the price is not raised much). However, it seems there is not much surprise as to introduction of new/creative building technique or use of parts. My feeling so far is the WOW factor (In LEGO official terms) is not high. Seeing the trend starting from 10218, it seems it is getting more and more difficult to have innovative ideas on 32x32 modular buildings. Hope when pictures of the interior design are disclosed, there are more surprises. Say, surely we got a bride and a bridegroom, so will we get a grand hall with beautiful decorations for their marriage registration, as part of the interior of the Town Hall? Quote

Definitely a new printed 4x4 dish, and what looks like a new shield design as well. It's been done for D2C sets before, but never for the modular line specifically. Quote
muscleman Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 wow! Really big and great modular! I want it!! thanks for the pics!!! Quote
wooootles Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I have to say it looks great, though if a bit predictable. Those dark flesh/orange/whatever will be of interest for MOCers. Definitely didn't expect it to see so early this year. Good addition - better than 10218 because I think this will have the size going for it... Probably the tallest modular, too. Quote

spectre4188 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) From looking at the box pictures up close, it looks like there may be an elevator in the back LEFT corner of the building. Also noticed there's actually 2 sky windows, and perhaps a mechanism to raise and lower the elevator directly next the the sky windows on the roof? Edit: My money's on an elevator. If what we're seeing the back left corner were stairs, there'd be windows ;-) Edited January 12, 2012 by spectre4188 Quote
Badsneaker Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Looking again I would have eliminated the very top section with the white 1x4 arches and 75 degree slopes and just capped the roof on top of the clock with black 75 degree slopes. Looks like some serious modding is going to happen on this one! Quote
mo123567 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I think people are being unfair in comparing this set with the 48-brick-wide MOC of a professional Lego designer... I think this would have looked better slightly shorter and wider with the columns going all the way up to the the top like Jamie's old design. It looks too squat and the columns too close together. The old design seems simpler yet more sophisticated and official. The height of the old one better fits with other modulars. Even though I preferred the old design I actually prefer the 32 by 32 base. It allows me to fit it into my modular block which wraps around with 4 corner buildings. 48 studs would have created a problem. I like the dark orange as well. I think the main thing for me was the columns. As Badsneaker said, I think it looked better with the taller columns. Also I know we have the fancy new column pieces but I preferred the column design on the old building. Overall, the entry way on the new design does not look grand enough in my opinion. It's still looks great and they still did better than I could do which is why I doubt I'll be able to improve it much but I'll give it a shot. That may even give me more enjoyment out of this set. Maybe that was the plan all along... Edited January 12, 2012 by mo123567 Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm loving it. Love the architecture reminding me of the Fire Brigade. Four words: >>>Back to the Future>>>! Yep - at least there's no window washer (appeared months later in the Grand Emporium after our Classic Town contest) (but that's a different topic) Quote
mo123567 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I forgot to ask: Did anyone hear anything about a release date? Quote
Parrothead Rasmus Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Are those... crescent rolls? Cool set though! Loving the colors especially. Quote
spectre4188 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Based on the below mock-up, and some simple math, knowing (and measuring the Pet Shop myself) the Pet Shop's top railing measures a height of 10 1/16in, I calculate the Town Hall to be: 18.5 inches (47 cm) tall WOW Edited January 12, 2012 by spectre4188 Quote
Ceroknight Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Wow! That is really beautiful! Well done LEGO! Quote

I'm wondering whether I would even have room to display this if when I get it! Quote

I'm wondering whether I would even have room to display this if when I get it! Sorry, miscalculation, it's actually 18.5in. For reference, in the below picture, 1px = .16229in. Personally, I'd have to take off the very top for it to fit on my bookshelf :-( Edited January 12, 2012 by spectre4188 Quote
Brickton Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Well, looks like the speculation regarding a town hall as being the next modular building were spot-on. I love the overall look and nice to have anew colour to play with...very earthy....not to mention lots of windows and great building pieces to play with. Overall another great product from TLG. I find it strange the first pictures would come from an obscure site but I guess someone has to get the news first! Quote
Lorentzen Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It is a stunning building - just like the rest of the modular series. I am so bummed that I never got to buy the sets from the very beginning. The discontinued models are insanely expensive on eBay and Bricklink. I don't mind the height difference between the buildings. As someone mentioned, you could just make a 16 stud gap between the Town Hall and the other buildings, and set up some trees/build a City Hall park :) Quote
David Thomsen Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Does anyone agree with me that the set probably won't have an elevator? I'm just reminded of how a lot of people thought the GE would have a working escalator, and now they see signs that could possibly indicate an elevator when they more likely indicate a stairwell. For one thing, how is the cleaner getting out of that trap door on the roof - is he standing on top of the elevator? Man, we need hi-res images fast so we can talk about what the set actually does have, rather than what we think it might have... Also, does that red-headed girl with the magnifying glass remind anyone else of Nancy Drew? Edited January 12, 2012 by David Thomsen Quote
AllanSmith Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I love it Hope its avaliable from S&H before the free worldwide shipping days are on offer. By zooming in, on the town hall back picture, there is a vertical groove beside the wall corner. You can see the wall colours of the end bricks in the shadow of the groove. I reckon this is to move the elevator/lift up and down the building. Edited January 12, 2012 by AllanSmith Quote
GRogall Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) A couple of small things that I have noticed about the new building The computer terminal that is used here is totally out of place in the modular series the time line for the series is somewhere in the 20's or 30's with the fire engine from FB Did you notice that the picture used is the one from the two christmas vignette's ? they could have added a different picture for this set. The Height of this building is also going to create a problem for me when displaying the set. Mine sit on the top shelf in a glass vitrine. i will have to remove the third floor to fit it! The width is not such a problem. I do like the colours of the set, I hope there is some nice interior detail as well! Also wander if the next building will be a corner building like CC or GE? Edit* with 240 people on average who where watching this thread yesterday I take it that the modular building line is still one of the most popular themes, so I think we will see a lots more sets yet to come!? narbilu Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It is so big, so nice, and the coloring... fantastic I could cry. Is it march already? Quote
kris kelvin Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I`m huge fan of this buildings, and this Town Hall is the best of them (with the exception of Cafe Corner which always will be numero uno). Colours, architecture, details. All perfect. Maybe roof made from slopes would be better than flat roof? Maybe. Yes of course it should be free-standing building, on 48x48 baseplate, made from 5000 elements and it should cost 400 dollars. It should also have another baseplate 48x48 in front of it with fountain, benches, lamp posts and of course with old man feeding pigeons. Pigeons made from bricks of course. Quote
