A collaborative build for Brickfair 2011 between myself and my good friend Jack Bittner. The MOC, depicts the scene of Amon Hen from the book/movie Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring. Please go check out Jacks page as well, because this is as much his build as it is mine. Also, more pictures and details can be found at MOCpages,Brickshelf and Flickr. We built this to be modular in the sense that it is in 6 different sections that are easily assembled.

All pictures link to flickr, though I suggest that you look at the MOCpages for much more details and pictures. :classic:

Thank you all for looking at these few pics! Once again I would really appreciate it (and I hope you would to) if you took a look at the MOCpage/flickr/brickshelf for better detailing and descriptions.

Also note that this won best Vignette and best Sci-fi at Brickfair 2011.

Comments/suggestions/criticisms/praise/other are always welcome!

Signed,

Blake

Woah, dude, that is astouding work! Brilliant landscaping, all the different types of trees, the walkway with the curved steps, the stripes in rocks are such a nice touch too! And the waterfall really does give the feel of cascading.:thumbup: The only thing i would nitpick at is that i always imagine Rauros to be a much higher waterfall - maybe twice as high as yours. But i fully appreciate that making it that high would provide difficulties as well.

Congrats to you and Jack on yr win at Brickfair, certainly well deserved! :classic:

Nothing I like better than a Lord of the Rings MOC. I'm glad you won best vignette, but, sci-fi...? The waterfall/cliffs are fantastically detailed, and the ruins themselves look very nice.

Wow! Just wow! Great work you two! Amazing! Awesome! Great work! Kudos to the both of you!

For some reason I can't see any pic on the MOC pages - is there a reason?

Great MOC! Awesome!

Amazing *oh2* ! You really deserved the prizes you won, if if the sci-fi category is a bit odd for this MOC  . Those colour effects on the cliffs are really cool and add a bit of realism to the entire build. Adding Nougat and Earth Orange (?) to a rockface in a defined pattern is something I've not seen done before much. The ruins also look really lovely, as do the trees. The entire build has a really "natural" and unforced feel to me, which is great  !

Really nice work! The details are wonderful, the waterfall, trees, and the rock design are very cool and add loads of atmosphere to the scene. Odd to win in the Sci-Fi category, but it is certainly a winner!

This is an amazing display! Congratulations to both the builders

I see it's full of interesting ideas and techniques. Not being able to comment on all of them, I'll just say how I love the tan and brownish strips on the rocks: very realistic, and a clear sign of care in the design!

Spotted this on Brickshelf last night - beautiful! I'm reading LOTR to my daughter and she's loving it so I'll show her this (she's also getting into the Lego now :sweet: ). Congratulations on the win!

Amazing work here. I'm a sucker for landscaping and this easily takes the cake. That waterfall is spectacular also. I would agree that it really looks cascading.

Wow.

Truly an impressive MOC.

What's not to love? The rocks are great with the striations/different rock compositions. The foliage is great. the paths are brilliant.

The modularity is fantastic. that one dead tree... wow.

I know I'll be coming back and dissecting the build and trying to catch all the awesome details (thanks for all the good shots on mocpages).

Question on the raised platform, I see they're sitting on pillars, but are those baseplates on top of the platforms or just regular plates/bricks?

The only suggestion I could make is maybe try to throw in a bit more green variation. In person/close up shots it'll look better, but some of the photos it's almost like just a green blob even though I *KNOW* it's more than that - stupid brain.

Beautiful landscaping like this is so difficult to achieve, but this is absolutely amazing. The canyon walls and water are amazing, especially the waterfall. That is some of the best water movement I've seen captured in brick. But, my favorite part is the ruins that you have sunk into the Earth of the forest. If I had any criticism, I would suggest taller, fuller trees. They seem a little thin. Perhaps if they branched a little more or had thicker trunks. It's beautiful just the way it is, though. I really love this. Thanks for sharing it with us. :wub_drool:

Great job. I remember this scene very well because I only have the first part movie at home and I've seen it many times.

Your MOC is very recognizable and the waterfall is one of my favourite details as well.

The birch trees, although they look simple, are also clever done. Same thing with the dried river.

Thank you all for your tremendous support and encouragement. It is truly an honor to be on the homepage 2 times in a row. Especially since both were my first times. Thank you all!

This entire build is just incredible! I really like the organic feeling of the trees and shrubbery. I am currently looking for close-ups of brick built trees to learn more about making organic constructions from little square and angular elements.

Keep on doing wonderful constructions like this!
