LandShark Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Like I said in another topic, I would love to see a naval-based faction introduced in Kingdoms. As for sub-themes, a return of Vikings would be my dream come true, I really liked the old theme. Forestmen/bandits would be awesome too, as a sub-theme or part of Kingdoms. Outside of Castle, Aztecs/Mayans/Incas would be great, but it seems unlikely that we'll get them any time soon. Quote

LOL I just received my first Vikings from bricklink. I was in the dark ages while they had those sets originally. So I now have a whopping 4 Vikings. Be worried. Quote
Ardelon Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Hi all, I would also like to see a Mideastern-style subtheme. A simple way to avoid controversy could be to make it independent of the current „European“ factions and set it in its own universe with 2 or more Mideastern kingdoms, ali baba style bandits, etc. In the same vein, I’d like to see a far eastern subtheme similar to the ninjas of ’98, but based more on China. Of course it wouldn’t actually be set in China, just like the past and current themes aren’t set in any European country. The same would go for a classical antiquity theme (though probably not under the Castle/Kingdoms banner), which could be set in a fictional land (Atlantis? – yeah, i know it‘s just been used) that would simply have a Greek/Roman feel to it (figs, armor, architecture, etc.). Ditto any Amerindian or other subthemes. A well executed dark age / barbarian subtheme would also be appreciated by me, though I was sorely disappointed with the Viking line. I’m not too keen on forestmen (I find them too cartoonish) or elves, and i wouldn‘t count on them appearing any time soon, as the „green niche“ is already fille by the dragon knights. But a bandit/outlaw faction similar to Wolfpack would be welcome; I remember someone suggesting a „villagers vs raiders“ subtheme a while back. I would prefer them to be rather more rag-tag than the Wolfpack with their smart uniforms. There could be sets like: - a large set featuring a bandit attack on a village with 2-3 tudor cottages (bring back the tudor wall!), lots of farm animals, and villagers fighting the bandits off with pitchforks / axes / scythes / clubs and maybe the occasional spear or bow so they could put up a fair fight – similar to 7189 Mill Village Raid and 10193 MMV - a smaller version of the above set, with 1 cottage and fewer minifigs – similar to 6918 Blacksmith Attack - a set featuring a bandit attack on a villager cart carrying barrels or other goods, can be set in a forest or on a bridge – similar to 7188 King’s Carriage Ambush or 6089 Stone Tower Bridge - the outlaw camp, with cauldron or roasting spit above a fire, booze barrel with tap, and a captured village maiden for... /ahem/ intelligent conversation - an outlaw boat or small ship (there were pirates back then too!) – like 6057 Sea Serpent, preferably larger - an impulse set with a villager, farming tools and animals; another impulse set with an outlaw As you‘ve noticed, most of my "villager vs bandit" ideas are knock-off of the current Kingdoms line, so they aren‘t viable in the near future. But hopefully, if and when TLG will one day want to take a break from the traditional Castle scheme (king, castle, towers, good and evil knights), a subtheme like this could do nicely, for a year or two. Sorry for the overly long post, this is my first one and I put a lot of what I wanted to say for a long time into it. To sum up: - a Mideastern and/or a Far Eastern subtheme would be great! - a good dark age subtheme would do just as well - forestmen and elves, not so much - later on, a villagers vs. bandits subtheme Quote
Magnus the Great Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) Having a nice selection of peasants, merchants, minor nobility, etc., would be quite awesome, IMO. I'd also like to see a return to the older style of battlepacks that had a mix of soldiers and peasants, or at the very least, have a selection of battle packs to choose from...one of each major 'faction' and one or two of civilians with accessories such as the hoods, pitchforks, panniers and maybe a goat and some chickens to fill it out...and put them back in cardboard boxes, instead of blister packs, to cut down on the COST of them! Agree, a peasant uprising battlepack with 5-6 new, different torsos & another pack with misc. females - in cardboard boxes. I would also like to see a Mideastern-style subtheme. A simple way to avoid controversy could be to make it independent of the current „European“ factions and set it in its own universe with 2 or more Mideastern kingdoms, ali baba style bandits, etc. Good point of view. That should be possible to implement. Edited September 5, 2011 by Magnus the Great Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) Forestmen, Forestmen, Forestmen, and Forestmen. Oh yeah, and Forestmen. Edited September 6, 2011 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
Haltiamieli Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I don't think the Forestmen are a viable option as long as current Lion and Dragon Knights are going on, as the Dragon faction has reserved the green colour-scheme for themselves, and they have even been seen doing highway robbery. Of course they haven't clearly understood that you should rob only the rich and give to the poor, but still it would be too redundant. Someday I would like to see a new forestmen subtheme, but their time is not now. One subtheme I would like to see would be some barbaric seafaring northmen, new less-wacky version vikings, robbing the fertile coast of the Lion Kingdom. Sailing and ships have always been underrepresented in Lego Castle. This could also continue Lego's attention to civilian side of medieval world - besides the longboat loaded with warriors and the Lion Knight warship, there could also be a small civial fishing boat and a bigger merchant cogg. A nigh impossible pipe dream? By no doubt. But now at least could be a could time for such a wave, if PotC will not continue in 2012 and before the normal Pirates are revived. Quote
Tyrant Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I would like to see an update/return of: -Black Falcons -Forestman -Wolfpack I figure the best approach there would be Black Falcons to replace Dragons. Then Wolfpack and Forestman. That way the green color scheme is broken up a little. For something new, I would like to see a snake themed group. I am sure it is a pipe dream, but a standard like the Cult of Set from Conan the Barbarian (the good one) would be great. Actually they could take quite a bit of "inspiration" from that movie. Thulsa Doom's snake armor, The Tower of the Serpent, Thulsa Doom's Mountain of Power. If they go with something more original, a set similar to the Skeleton Tower (though larger) but with a cobra head in place of the skull could be interesting. Maybe a few snake men to round it out. And I can never get enough peasants. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I would agree on more civilians of course. I like the idea of more ship based ideas, but other than the small ships they did early in the Crusaders era I think they reserve most of the ships for pirates since obviously kingdoms never had a naval fleet... I love forestmen and wolfpack, but I wouldn't want them to rehash them. I like them must the way they are and would hate for them to be ruined by bringing them back. Others will disagree, but the same goes for pirates. They recreated the redcoats and some people love them, but I much prefer the older version. I guess it is just nostalgia talking. But I will also agree with a more barbaric theme. Quote
Ogre Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Honestly, I'm pretty much in favour of ANYTHING that keeps the 'castle' theme going, so long as it's done with QUALITY. In other words, no more KKII-style knights and weapons, and no KKI 'modular' (read: 'crappy') castles, etc. KKI had okay minifigs but, they weren't nearly as good as the 'Crownies' and the current Lions & Dragons (heh...used to be a pub near me called "The Lion & Dragon" *g*). I'd REALLY like to see a "fully fleshed-out" theme though...something that's more than "just another castle" and "just another catapult". Quote

Whilst I don't know how well a middle-eastern theme would 'fit' with the current Kingdoms line (in a word, it wouldn't) I would like to see TLG bring out something along these lines (either in a PQ/Adventurers style) as it would be a shame to see the new camel and ostrich moulds go to waste. A barbarian/bandit sub-theme could fit nicely into the Kingdoms theme. As perhaps a third wave of sets where the Dragon and Lion knights now have another threat to deal with. Think snarly minifigs with big hair and big weapons (like the germanic ones at the start of Gladiator :P). Quote
Eldervampire Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 What about a sub-theme based on the Mongol hordes. They already have the wooly hats used in both HP and in the Orient Adventurers lines. There are plenty of hourses to choose from. Hey, Genghis Kahn is still the record holder as far as conquerors go, talk about a threat to the kingdom. Quote

nindja10 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 i like the genghis kahn idea and i would like to see some barbarians, germans or vikings Quote
giggitygoo Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Either Forestmen and or experiment with different cultures and time periods rather than knights. Not that I have anything against Medieval themed sets it's just it would be nice to see something in a different style :) Quote
Rolltron Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I agree. A medieval Middle Eastern theme would be a nice change. Gives the Crusaders an official enemy. But I too see the difficulties in that. While historical, it seems like a very difficult theme to properly show without controversy. Prince of Persia? Quote
hanzocloud Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Mongolians would be nice... like Disney's Mulan.. mongols invade china.. there you go!! 2 factions right there! Quote
Bricknave Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I wish for either an Elven faction or a return of the Forestmen faction like what other members have suggested. If they ever bring back the 2007-2009 Fantasy Castle theme, I'd love to see the Elves join the ranks of the Crown Knight army, and an Elven village with tree-fortresses. If future castle sets won't be fantasy related, I'd love to see Forestmen battling the forces of an evil and arrogant king in woodland settings. I also would like to see a new faction of Druids, with their structures being ruins that slightly resemble stone-henge. Quote
Wardancer Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I'd love to see a colder theme (in snowy mountains etc.). Yes, that would be great. Warriors with fur coats, horses with blankets etc. Quote
JasonV Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Forestmen, Forestmen, Forestmen, and Forestmen. Oh yeah, and Forestmen. I would LOVE a Forestmen theme. But I'd be content with anything that maintained the quality of the current line and steered away from fantasy elements like orcs or elves. A more nautical theme would be good, like Vikings. I don't know know about more middle eastern themes since it doesn't seem to fit the Kingdom line. Quote
Dragon Warrior Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) An ancient Roman theme would be cool with a gladiator arena, some ships and barbarians to play the "bad guys". Edited September 27, 2011 by Dragon Warrior Quote
Hiawatha Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I would like to see some Scottish figures ! They would look great! Quote
