  1. 1. What do you do after you make your ships?

    • I take pictures and display the actual ship for all the world to see.

    • I take pictures and hide the ship away in my collection, unsure of its fate.

If I like anything I build a lot, I will display it for a while, regardless of theme.

Otherwise, it just becomes more parts for something else.

I always keep my MOCs. I still have a ship (Ironclad CSS Virginia) that I build 15 years ago.

Another (Ironclad USS Monitor) is already 6 years old.

However, sometimes I still make small improvements to these ships.

The only problem is the dust that they collect over time :-).

I display for a while, and sometimes make minor improvements.

Mostly though, I find I need to take some parts from a finished vessel... usually gun port lids and cannon to begin with, then some of the crew, then some spars, perhaps some ratlines, then more of the crew, then topmasts, maybe some tall bricks or lattice windows (which removal of which generally leaves the hull less than sound).

Eventually, there's a stripped hulk left on the shelf, at which time I start a new vessel using the remaining components... and in building the new vessel I find I need to strip some parts from older vessels... usually gun port lids and cannon to begin with, then some of the crew, then some spars... and so on... and so on.

First of course I take pictures and show them to the world. Then it depends. If time passes and I still like the MOC, I let it live. If I don't like it anymore, I destroy it. And if I don't destroy the MOC, I often make modifications. I think almost every MOC I showed to you looks a bit different now. Sometimes I take parts from a finished vessel to use them in a new one, like Mr Legeaux, but if I don't want to destroy the previous MOC, I try to replace the bricks I've taken with different ones, sometimes changing the old MOC's design a bit (and this is the main reason why I modify MOCs - because I need their parts for new MOCs).

I might take pictures, but only show MOCs of mine on (really) rare occasions. Then they are always detsroyed, and I come up with something else.

I've never created a ship before so I don't suppose I can really partake in this poll, but in the interest of participation I'll do it anyway.

Naturally I'd... I take pictures and display the actual ship for all the world to see. because I want everyone to see my hard work.

Then I'd... save and display but not indefinitely because I don't have space so I'd have to eventually DESTROY! REBUILD! RECONQUER!

Use an unused paint brush for getting rid of dust...works really well I find.

Wht kind of paint brush though? I'm not really a painter so I'm not really that familiar with all the different types of paint brushes but what I do know is they differ. So from this I've assumed that some would be better fur the purpose of LEGO dusting than others.

If I only have one of the model, whether it’s a ship or structure I like to keep it bone stock. I have several shelves full of complete or nearly complete pirate sets as I acquire them. Then if I like it enough I buy one or more of it and modify it to my liking. I prefer to do all of my MOCing with pieces from Bricklink, Ebay or Wal~Mart, not from whole pirate sets. I want to display them without having to dust them. For now I am putting all my troops in drawers and keeping everything else on open shelves, but the room is cut off from the rest of the house (minimal air circulation and dust). I think the only answer will be to build some enclosed shelves with glass.
