I would like some info on Technic sets that came with working gearboxes. Iv looked around the net and all I could find was the 8448 set. It does not matter if the set is current or discontinued. Most discontinued sets can be found on Ebay. Thanks for your help, Patrick.

HERE is an excellent compact build of a Studless 5+R gearbox where you can easily see how everything is set up and how things work.
August 31, 201113 yr You can get a list of all sets using Technic Driving Ring on Bricklink. Most of these sets will feature a gearbox. Instructions can be downloaded from the Lego website.
August 31, 201113 yr The 8466 Offroader came with a very similar gearbox to the 8448. HERE is an excellent compact build of a Studless 5+R gearbox where you can easily see how everything is set up and how things work. I recommend this set too. It is very realistic. Not only do you get a realistic gearbox, but also realistic everything.
August 31, 201113 yr The classic 8880 Supercar has an excellent gear box mechanism (including a special gear stick and plate piece that are both exclusive to this set). The 8466 and 8448 are also great sets (I own both sets but sadly no 8880)
August 31, 201113 yr 8880 had the best/smoothest gear change, although still quite unrealistic. The 8865 also had a working 3 speed gearbox along with some earlier sets (known as auto chassis) but those don't use synchromesh type gears, they are crash gearboxes. The gearbox in the 8480 is a function selector gearbox (the first to use synchromesh gears) like many of todays sets. August 31, 201113 yr 8043 has not been mentioned it does not have a proper gearbox (it is a multiplexer in fact, allows you to control 6 functions with 4 motors) but you have all the pieces needed to build up to a 8-speed gearbox
