StoutFiles Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Can you confirm the neck piece on Yoda is green? I have a hard time telling with that picture. If not, this figure is not truly exclusive. Lucrehulk, MTT, Subjugator, Providence... That was a trick question. There are no iconic Separatist ships. Quote
simonjedi Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Lucrehulk, MTT, Subjugator, Providence... He said iconic A shitty warship that blows up after 3 episodes and a ship that appears in a 20 minute cgi battle scene isn't iconic (I had to google them to see what they were.) Lucrehulk maybe eventually, MTT? Nah. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 That was a trick question. There are no iconic Separatist ships. I remember reading that the Vultures were meant to represent the TIEs of the PT, so that's probably why they feature so prominently, unlike other Sep craft which keep getting replaced by other ships. Praiter Yed Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Can somebody explain what the new meaning of 'iconic' is. In my understanding of the word there would be very few spacecraft throughout the whole of sci-fi that are truly iconic and none of them would be from the PT or CW. Quote
Hollander Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the review! $50 is a little overpriced, even though there are 8 minfigs are included, including two special ones. 266 is not that bad, but a couple more pieces would be better. No idea if this will be available in my country, if it is, and won't cost more than 45 euro's, I might get it. This review certainly helped improving my opinion on this set. Fallenangel Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Can somebody explain what the new meaning of 'iconic' is. In my understanding of the word there would be very few spacecraft throughout the whole of sci-fi that are truly iconic and none of them would be from the PT or CW. At the very least, I would consider any ship in the Prequels that played some kind of critical role in the plot of the film somewhat iconic relative to the other twenty thousand craft. I only chose those four ships because they were the only ones I could think of as being even vaguely important. Also keep in mind the fact that I haven't seen the first two Prequels in several years. I suppose if I were to sit on it a while, I would probably come to the conclusion that iconic starships don't exist in either the Prequels or the Clone Wars, especially since the films and series focus more on character development (or at least some semblance of it - but that's a debate for another thread). Brickdoctor Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Something iconic from Star Wars would be something instantly recognizable by anyone as something from Star Wars, whether that person was a fan of Star Wars or not. In my mind, that means T-65s, TIE/lns, Imperial Star Destroyers, Death Star I, and the Falcon, primarily, if we're talking vehicles. Possibly also the AT-AT, AT-ST, T-47, TIE x1, Death Star II, Y-wing, and Executor. The word is probably overused. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 (edited) OK, I get that, sorry for going off topic - I think I'll follow up in the culture & media SW thread . On topic: I got my the kids advent calendar the other day and couldn't resist a peek under the lid (without actually opening any widows). I was a bit disappointed to realise that the image on the back of the box shows how it's supposed to be displayed... (propped up against something?). It's traditional in our household to hang advent calendars on the wall - pretty much impossible with this... Edited September 11, 2011 by Praiter Yed Quote
sharky Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 It would be a good set only if priced much lower. I will see if I can get that Santa Yoda through the secondary market. Quote
Petit-bleu Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 For info, it's now priced 27,90 euros on amazon.fr Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Unlike others, though, I like the blank Rebel helmet because then you can customize it, unlike when you get so many of the 2010 Rebel Battlepacks where you're stuck with one helmet design. Same here. I actually consider the blank helmet a selling point; the only thing more desirable would be one with a printed helmet that hasn't been in another set, and I don't think they'd do something like that for an advent calendar. It would be either this helmet or another Luke / Wedge / Zev / etc., and of those two options I favor the blank helmet. Quote
Davor Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 hm...I didn`t get poster inside...not that I like this bizzare picture...but still....anyone else didn`t get it aswell? set is soo overpriced , I don`t like at all mini ships, but some minifigs are nice and you get 9 of them - and that was the only reaason for me to buy it. Also noticed that mouse droid minifig has light gray bricks instead od dark gray ones like in star destroyer and death star. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Thanks for the review. The only thing really good for me in this would also be the Black Astro Droid, and I'm not about to pay $50 for what other stuff is in it. Too bad licensed Advent Calenders never last to go on sale after Christmas. What other licensed Advent Calendars have there ever been? Unless you're talking about non-LEGO ones, I think this is the first. I have to reiterate my mystification over the disappointment several here are expressing over the unprinted Rebel pilot helmet and the plain black Clonetrooper head. Given how many people dislike the aesthetic of the CW faces, I'd have thought both features would actually make this set more desirable, not less. Inside is this weird piece of paper, this picture really confuses me, if you could figure it out, would be greatly appreciated. It pretty clearly looks like a poster to me. The poster portrays Star Wars characters (Yoda and a Rebel pilot) watching a typical Star Wars scene (a space battle), all done up in Christmas dressing. It's clearly not meant to be an actual Star Wars scene. Quote
Grimmy Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I might BL that Yoda Figure. Though he's completely useless, he's pretty cute. He's awesome! Santa Yoda. I'll have to buy that from Brinklink too lol. He's the star of the set imo and the black c3po (don't kill me Star Wars Pros, I only know the originals) is the co-star :D Quote

Sorry, I just noticed this reply today. My mistake; I meant the non-City calendars. Well, actually, non-City System calendars, since I remember there were stacks of Belville calendars left over after Christmas but the Pirate and Castle ones were gone, at least in my area. Quote

Were you in the USA then, as well? I don't remember ever having seen any of those three themes' advent calendars (Belville, Castle and Pirates) in US stores, either before or after Christmas; I was under the impression that prior to last year, when they did a Kingdoms one, their non-City calendars were never officially released in the US (in fact, I recall some discussion on FBTB about the US Shop at Home getting a limited quantity of the 2008 Castle calendars by mistake, and LEGO Ambassadors working something out with the company so that rather than redirecting the calendars to the European S@H that was supposed to get them, they'd allow US fans who called on the phone and requested them to order them). Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought last year's Kingdoms calendar was the first non-City calendar in several years (if not the first one ever) that had gotten a US release. Brickdoctor Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I don't remember, unfortunately, as I don't buy them. I do remember that the '08 Castle Advent Calendar was the one that wasn't distributed in the US initially. I know I saw Belville Calendars in a LEGO Brand Store after Christmas. I don't remember how available the Pirate ones were. Quote
Hollander Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) Hum... sure the black astromech droid is the same one as in 10188? According to BL, there are two different black astromech droids. R2-D5 and R2-Q5. R2-D5 on the left, R2-Q5 on the right. They have different heads. Edited November 26, 2011 by Hollander Quote

'snip' R2-D2 on the left, R2-Q2 on the right. They have different heads. R2 D5 was released with 6211 star destroyer and according to Brickipedia was wrongly named. The correctly named and re-designed R2 Q5 does come with 10188 and I think it's great that we get the chance of scoring this droid from a reasonably priced set. Although, imo, the new black astromech with the 2012 Tie Fighter is now more desirable. I've noticed that the advent calendar is showing as 'sold out' on S@H UK, Amazon price has rocketed to over £40 and on eBay sales seem to averaging around £35. I wonder if there will be another SW advent calendar next year or perhaps one for another licensed theme instead, in which case this might be even more sought after. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) I wonder if there will be another SW advent calendar next year or perhaps one for another licensed theme instead, in which case this might be even more sought after. I've wondered that as well. If TLG sticks to the pattern of the past several years, it won't, but of course we don't know whether it will. TLG has done advent calendars since at least 1998. Since 2005, they've done a City calendar each year, and beginning in 2007, they've paired it with a calendar from some other theme, for a total of two calendars each year for the last five years including this one. The non-City themes differ from year to year: 2007 - Belville 2008 - Castle 2009 - Pirates 2010 - Kingdoms 2011 - Star Wars While City always gets one of the two, the other theme is always different, unless one counts Castle and Kingdoms as the same theme (the latter being the replacement for the former in the overall castle line). They've never repeated one of these "co-themes" that gets paired with City. That said, this year also marks a couple firsts, in that the Star Wars one is the first licensed calendar, and I believe also the first one more expensive than the City one released the same year (though apparently not the first one with a different price; the Belville one cost less than the 2007 City one). TLG shifts various practices over time, and perhaps five years of this "standard practice" with the calendars is long enough that it warrants shaking up. Of course, it's also probably worth mentioning that Star Wars is probably one of the two most popular LEGO themes, with City being the other one... Edited November 26, 2011 by Blondie-Wan Quote
legomonk Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I got one of these as a gift from my folks so I didnt buy it myself. I am actually looking forward to the gunray fig since I dont have one. The black R2 unit is awesome and a good piece for my imperial army I am working on along with the imperial pilot. the rest is kinda just bantha poodo and will get "lost" in the great dark on my pieces bins. ScaryScarecrow Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I got this set this year, it's okay, didn't get one of those poster things though. I'm hoping next year it's a DC or Marvel themed calendar. Quote
Solscud007 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 I started a little late but after seeing the "bag building" thread. I built the spider droid in the bag! Quote
