Posted September 6, 201113 yr I can't help but notice the amount of listings for the 8110 sets on Ebay for $174.99 USD(and less) with free shipping... If you break this down, $175 minus say $20 for shipping, 4%($7) for Paypal Fees, and $18 for Ebay Fees means that these people have to be getting these sets for around $100 to even make a profit... Did I miss a great sale somewhere..?

Did I miss a great sale somewhere..? I got one for $179.99 with free shipping few days ago. The PayPal went to an account in UK and sold to Colordo, USA but shipped to me in Virginia, USA. The package sent directly from LEGO with Lego's invoice. The Package/Invioce includes 8110 ($199.99) and 30141 ($1.29 - I didn't order) with $15.05 shipping, $10.82 sales tax. I think these EBAY salers are legitimated LEGO wholesales but I am so worry about that my Paypal will charge the extra in the feature.

The last time I heard of something like this, it turned out the ebay seller was using a stolen credit card to pay Lego shop at home. Hopefully that isn't the case here, because Lego has previously blacklisted people from buying from shop at home that have received goods paid for with a stolen credit card.

Was it actually sent directly from Lego, or was it just the Lego shipping box with the invoice left in? (ie ON the actual invoice, was your address listed? Was there a new shipping label stuck over an original one on the outside of the box?)
September 6, 201113 yr Was it actually sent directly from Lego, or was it just the Lego shipping box with the invoice left in? (ie ON the actual invoice, was your address listed? Was there a new shipping label stuck over an original one on the outside of the box?) It is a real LEGO invoice printed nicely with "Return" infomation with my Name and Address. The shipping box is also from LEGO because I ordered two sets from LEGO before. There is no new shipping label struck over. The process looks like a "gift" item that "sold to someone" but "shipped to another address".
September 6, 201113 yr Check this old thread out: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45621 And also this thread from fbtb: http://www.fbtb.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4874 (I hope it's ok I post links from other message boards as it is very relevant to the thread.) Looks like the exact thing happened last year as well, probably by some of the same culprits, as the items sold are technic flagship models. I think the right thing to do would be to notify paypal and Lego, most likely you will get your money back and Lego should be able to get their set back as well, I would imagine they will give you free shipping back to them. The last thing you want is to be blacklisted as a scammer, which it now appears that you are to Lego since Lego shipped the set paid for with a stolen credit card to your home. Is it just me, or is ebay full of scams these days? The Death Star/Millennium Falcon scam is still ongoing as well, we really need to be careful out there it seems. September 6, 201113 yr Check all the ebay scams at the moment for Lego UCS Star Wars items - there is a massive racket at the moment as some people have twigged the AFOL community can be easily hooked. Alternatively people are buying on others behalf to collect the VIP points; perhaps even with discount codes?
September 6, 201113 yr I think I posted my experience elsewhere as well. In a similar transaction, I ordered a Grand Carousel from Ebay at about 30% below retail with free shipping and it ended up being paid for from a stolen credit card. My address was listed on the Lego invoice which showed the Full Lego Retail Price along with the shipping price that had been paid. I didn't think too much of it until I ordered a UCS Millenium Falcon a few weeks later when it went on sale and that order was cancelled. I went through a process of sending my paypal receipt to Lego as well as a link to the auction before they would allow sets to be shipped to my address again from S@H. The seller did only have 15-20 feedback, so your seller might be legitimate since they a better history.
September 6, 201113 yr Paul, I noticed that most of the sellers that are selling the unimogs cheap are not located in the U.S. but in other countries, but the item location is in the U.S. Hmm.
September 6, 201113 yr It upsets me to think that such an offer may be the direct result of illegitimate business as the offer is quite appealing. I have been reading every post on the 8110 thread and really look forward to the day I can purchase this set. But with the relatively high price tag, I have been looking for the perfect deal so that I could get it. I could go to one of the local Lego stores which would cut any shipping costs, but it is still $200. Also, with school starting up again today it isn't exactly perfect timing to spend on Legos.. but it is a hobby I take seriously (Not as serious as I am about school but still..). Another thing I am thinking about is the current Technic Competition, which is VERY APPEALING since it offers the possibility of actually WINNING the 8110. I am working on an entry but with only two weekends left for building I may not be able to enter it in time... Anyways.. I found a couple more sales on Ebay similar to the first one. I will post the link but if I am not supposed to.. just let me know and I will edit my post. 8110 Unimog - $179.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_1008wt_1270 8110 Unimog - $169.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...d#ht_926wt_1270 8043 Excavator - $189.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_4509wt_1270

It's very simple to do: Click the 'Report item' link from the auction page 'Report Category' should be set to "Listing practices" 'Reason for Report' should be set to "Fraudulent listing activities" 'Detailed Report' should be set to "You suspect that a listing is fraudulent" Click 'Continue' Click 'Send Report' It has been my experience that eBay is not only thankful for the reports, but they actually act on them when deemed necessary. Thanks for helping keep eBay clean and disease free!
September 7, 201113 yr There are multiple shops in the Netherlands offering Unimogs for around 150 euro's excl. shipping, but the site they offer them on (marktplaats.nl) doesn't charge for ads. - Sok.
September 7, 201113 yr I certainly don't want to buy stolen goods. But I don't want to pass up a good deal. There are signs to look out for as others have pointed out. But is there a simple price-based rule-of-thumb to screen out possibly illegitimate deals on eBay? For example, the Cars set 8487 lists for $59.99 at the Lego shop. But I was able to get one two months ago on eBay for $44 including shipping. Do you think this could have been a fraudulent deal?

But I was able to get one two months ago on eBay for $44 including shipping. Do you think this could have been a fraudulent deal? All great deals are certainly not stolen goods or the result of fraud, as we all know, Target had some fantastic clearances earlier this year, which probably lowered aftermarket value of many sets. If you bought a set at 50% off and wanted to make money off it as soon as possible, then listing it at 25% off MSRP might be a good idea to make sure it sells quickly. The problem in this particular situation with the Unimogs is that it's a new set so it probably haven't been on sale (maybe now with the $40 off at TRU), and more importantly the way it is sold where the buyer buys the set on Ebay, while it is shipped from Lego direct at full price. The ebay seller buys the set on Lego once he gets an order on ebay using a stolen credit card and he has Lego ship it to the ebay customer. The ebay seller spends none of his own money, and the ebay customer is left with the blame when Lego discovers that the purchase is made with a stolen credit card. So if the product is shipped directly from Lego, while you bought it on ebay or anywhere else, it is a clear indication of this scam being used. Lego does not sell products from their warehouses through anyone but themselves.
September 7, 201113 yr A lot of Cars sets went to clearance in some of the large retailers. I actually bought 8487 at Target for $27.99 a little while back. Just because it's a good deal doesn't mean it's stolen or a scam, you just need to be careful with the cheaper popular sets.

September 7, 201113 yr Most of These auctions with these great prices and free shipping are being sold by what looks to be legit sellers with 100% feedback. There are a few brand new members selling though too. Edited September 7, 201113 yr by Meatman
September 7, 201113 yr hi, I bought four sets this way a month ago. I called lego yesterday and sure enough, my home address has been red flagged. I had to send them my ebay transaction records to get reinstated. In all my cases, the packagings show they come directly from lego. The packing slips show regular lego purchases at full retail price with shipping and tax included. The billing infor is different for each set even though I ordered three of these from the same ebay seller. I reported these to ebay and paypal but it is probably already too late to stop the money flow. I have to admit it is a clever scheme - by the time any of the involved realizes it, they will be gone with the money. I believe the same scheme is still being run on ebay - look at all the impossibly low 8110 prices. Some signs that the ebay listing may be illegit: a) it requires immediate payment. b)you are not allowed to buy more than two. c)it is a brand new set that has not been on sale anywhere. If you are not sure but still want to go for the low prices, you can file for ebay buyer protection shortly after the transaction. Ebay or paypal will hold off the payment until you receive the item (so that you can verify it is legit).
September 7, 201113 yr Here is one that definitely looks fishy and has all of the traits described by technixcc. seller is from vietnam. 8110 for $159.99 Brand New for $139.99??? with free shipping??? Edited September 7, 201113 yr by Meatman
September 8, 201113 yr Yep, pretty sure those are both scams. There's 3 ways that apparently "good" ebay sellers (good feedback, long history of selling) can be in this. One, it's a legit seller who went bad. Two, it's a stolen ebay account on top of the stolen credit card. Three, sometimes scammers will set up accounts and actually sell a bunch of stuff (usually cheaply, like used CDs, garage sale type junk, etc) to build up a history and feedback before starting the scam. Then they'll sell as much high $$$ stuff as they can very fast, and then disappear.
September 8, 201113 yr Can these sellers not be reported to eBay if this is the case?how do u know who's good to buy off so!
