Posted September 8, 201113 yr Hi fellows! I just recieved my now most priced figure, the chrome C-3PO! Bricklink Guide The baggie was already thrown away by the previous collector, but here's a picture of how it should look: And here is he out of the package: Here's a view from all sides: What?! Ah, that was just a picture to show his un-chromed parts... His arms will have to be posed in only one way, I hate to see those unprinted parts: Tortured by some nasty Jawa's: And now he's even showing more things we don't want to see! (un-chromed, that is) Now for some comparisons! (shame my chrome Stormies are in bag, and I haven't got the red 3PO yet..) ''Do I know you?'' And another one: Rating: Accessories: 10/10 (but no R2 ) Accuracy: 10/10 (No comment ) Design: 10/10 Looks: 10/10 Poseability/Playability: 6/10 (No real playability, and the poseability is limited) Quality: 7/10 (Not bead for one of the first entire minifig-chromings, but the DV is better) Value (for your money): 10/10 (If you want to buy it now, you'll be poor, if you got it once, you'll be rich ) Reviewer's Tilt: 10/10 Sorry, but I just copied the rating idea.. Well, I guess that was it! Wait, didn't I forget something? Ah, yes: I hope you enjoyed, may the Force be with you Edited September 8, 201113 yr by commdr_neyo
September 8, 201113 yr His arms will have to be posed in only one way, I hate to see those unprinted parts: This is one of the few only complaints I have of this minifigure. I wonder if there was a way in which Lego could've avoided this. And another one: I was looking for a similar picture some time ago. Still have to get K-3PO, and the red and black protocol droids. Great review. I enjoyed the jokes. I really hope we get a chrome R2 some day.

They could've chromed the arms seperately, and put them on later, like done with the chrome Vader. Well, here it is! I luckly got the black droid from an EB raffle I agree on that complaint
September 8, 201113 yr They could've chromed the arms seperately, and put them on later, like done with the chrome Vader. I wasn't aware of that, and I own one. Maybe it'll be re-released someday, full chrome body. This minifigure got me out of my short dark ages. In late 2008, I learned about this promotion Lego had made in 2007. I loved the fig at first sight, and managed to get one sealed at just $75 (which, although fairly high for a minifigure, was cheap by the standards even at that moment). I was quickly drawn to minifigure collecting once more. So I have a special affection for this minifigure. It could even be my favorite one. Anyways, back on topic, I'm glad we finally got a review for this guy! Thanks!
September 8, 201113 yr I got one of these off my friend and I must admit that they're pretty cool! And you've beaten me to the review.
September 8, 201113 yr Thanks for the nice review. I'm very jealous of you for owning this awesome fig! And the lack of poseability isn't so bad - It's Threepio after all. He doesn't move much.
September 9, 201113 yr And I never thought we'd ever see the review of this crazy expensive fig, so thanks a lot for sharing this commdr_neyo! I'll be adding this to the index later. You sure are lucky to own this, I also wish I could have mine in the future.
September 9, 201113 yr Thanks for this review - I remember when I finally got my (unbagged) one from ebay - the seller had sold a few of them, so when it arrived and saw the un-chromed "armpits" I was paranoid it was a fake - took a couple of days of trawling online before my fears were allayed a bit....
September 9, 201113 yr They could've chromed the arms seperately, and put them on later, like done with the chrome Vader. Are you sure about that? I was fairly sure that Chrome Vader had the same thing, just a lot harder to see. Mine's in a box somewhere, so I can't look for myself.

Oh yes, it's the same. Thanks for the review commdr_neyo. I coveted this figure for a long time and when my missus finally accepted that that she was stuck with a nerd, she bought me one for my birthday . I can't bring myself to open the packet though which is a bit of a waste, sometimes I just peer through the hole in the bag at Threepio's shiny little face. I'm quite envious of people who have opened them or bought one that's already opened. I'd like to have another so that I could just mess with it and sit it on stuff without any worries but I still wouldn't be able to pull the hands off like you did.
September 9, 201113 yr And not only do all Chrome minifigs have the unchromed areas, it wouldn't be possible to chrome the arms separately, since the joint would then be covered in chrome and the parts would be a little bit thicker, and then you risk cracking the minifig.
September 9, 201113 yr Oh yes, it's the same. I can't bring myself to open the packet though which is a bit of a waste, sometimes I just peer through the hole in the bag at Threepio's shiny little face. I'm glad it's not just me. I bought one of these sealed a while ago from Ebay, but couldn't bring myself to open it. There didn't seem much point in keeping a white unopened bag, so I reluctantly sold it on again, I just hope that it went to a good home

I'm on the opposite situation: I opened mine and would love to get a second one to keep unopened. Your situation is much easier than mine! One question, though. It is rumored that there were about 10,000 chrome Vaders and 10,000 white Boba Fetts. Why is the price difference with other promo figs so huge? Edited September 9, 201113 yr by johnnyvgoode

It is rumored that there were about 10,000 chrome Vaders and 10,000 white Boba Fetts. Why is the price difference with other promo figs so huge? Both of those were very easy to obtain in the UK and Europe. I've got two spare White Mandalorians that I got for free. And while there were more than 10,000 of all of the promo figures - I've seen 40,000 quoted, but I don't know how accurate that is - the Gold C-3P0 was the only one that you could either get at random or off of eBay/Bricklink. I believe that the 501st got the excess 3P0s too.

It is rumored that there were about 10,000 chrome Vaders and 10,000 white Boba Fetts. Why is the price difference with other promo figs so huge? I think the collectibility of the C3PO is so much greater, as this is the minifigure that most accurately represents the character of C3PO in the movies; just compare to the pearl gold versions. Also, the other promo figures aren't well known, the White Mandalorian and shadow ARF are expanded universe figures, stormtroopers are white, not chrome metallic. Darth Vader is the most interesting of the promo figures, but even he is a little too shiny compared to his movie alter ego. Now the one they really should make is a chrome domed R2D2 with a third wheel, I think it could almost be as popular as the chrome C3PO. Nice review by the way, I'm a little impressed that you could actually write that much about a single minifigure...

Nice review by the way, I'm a little impressed that you could actually write that much about a single minifigure... You're right in that the white Fett guy is clearly less popular since it's based on Ralph McQuarrie concept art, but to tell you the truth, the chrome Vader appealed to me as much as the chrome 3PO. My only guess is that the chrome 3PO is more movie accurate, limited, and humans are biased by anything that looks golden. Besides, Lego did make much more of a hype for the chrome C-3POs. I think this could explain it.
September 10, 201113 yr I think it's a lot simpler than that. There may have been equal amounts produced, but the Chrome Vaders were available to buy from stores in Europe for a time and both the Chrome Vaders and White Fetts were essentially given away at LEGO Star Wars Weekend at LEGOLAND. (this in California; not sure about the other parks) The Chrome Threepios required a lot more effort and/or a lot more spending to acquire, thus it can be resold at higher prices.
September 10, 201113 yr from home alone 2: Bird Lady: I'm just afraid if I do trust someone, I'll get my heart broken. Kevin McCallister: I understand. I had a nice pair of Rollerblades. I was afraid to wreck them, so I kept them in a box. Do you know what happened? I outgrew them. I never wore them outside. Only in my room a few times. Bird Lady: A person's heart and feelings are very different than skates. Kevin McCallister: They're kind of the same thing. If you won't use your heart, who cares if it gets broken? If you just keep it to yourself, maybe it'll be like my Rollerblades. When you do decide to try it, it won't be any good. You should take a chance. Got nothing to lose. Bird Lady: Little truth in there somewhere.

September 13, 201113 yr Neyo, I'm glad to see you're enjoying him so much. I agree he is a great little MiniFig despite the imperfections. I had all of the Promo Figs (Chrome C3-PO Vader and Stromtrooper, White Boba and Shadow ARF Trooper). While they're all cool ther is something about C3-PO that makes him stand-out from the rest, maybe because he started the whole thing?
