oo7 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I don't like the space themes all that much, it just seems so childish to me, "whooshing" spaceships around while making funny noises, but I was inspired by these new snot techniques like those beautiful ships on Pre-Classic-Space.com possess so I decided to try my hand at it. <insert some long and pointless backgroud story here> <insert some high-tech sounding and meaningless description here> My final verdict: Snoty space mocs = 8- Quote
Asuka Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 It looks like some nice stuff coming straight from Futurama and you are sounding like Bender too.... Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Simple but good. That's something that's very hard to achieve, so I must compliment you on a job well done! Some small stuff I don't like too much is that the cockpit isn't fully airtight. Besides that, I don't like the way the small round 1 x 1's attached to the droid arms look. Either leave them off or change them for something else (how about a droid body...altough that would have to break the color scheme?). If you have two 1 x 1 tiles, add them to the gaps in the back. A simple touch which would certainly increase the beauty of the ship. Finally, I'd personally add some more details to the cockpit. It doesn't look bad the way it is, but there's certainly room for improvement. Well, might seem like I didn't like this at all, but I certainly do! Quote
xwingyoda Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I'm afraid this is the last of me you'll be seeing around this space docking bay for a while, space cadets. So come back quickly then !! I really love the design and simplicity of this MOC !! Like Asuka mentionned, I love that 50's space retro feel to it !! Show us more like that !! Yoda Quote
oo7 Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 Yoda and Asuka Thanks for the input, I'm glad you like it. Some small stuff I don't like too much is that the cockpit isn't fully airtight. Yeah, I've tried and tried to fix that but there is not much I can do without totally revamping the model. Besides that, I don't like the way the small round 1 x 1's attached to the droid arms look. The landing gear looks nice but is not very funtional. I was inspired by those strage looking but very small and gracefull looking landing gear on Royal Starships and such from the SW PT. Either leave them off or change them for something else (how about a droid body...altough that would have to break the color scheme?). Hmm..... If you have two 1 x 1 tiles, add them to the gaps in the back. A simple touch which would certainly increase the beauty of the ship. Those gaps are in the back are there for a reason, so the cockpit can open! But the cockpit's air-tightness is not sacrificed because I put a 1x1 tile on each side of the gaps on the inside. Finally, I'd personally add some more details to the cockpit. Could you please explain this in greater depth? Not to be egotistical or anything, but I'll just point out the air intake in the front and how much I love it; I love that air intake in the front! Quote
Kahgarak Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I like it.It is very simple, but the cockpit has some great details.Mind making instructions? :blacksmylielaughing: Quote
Jipay Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I am the only one who noticed the funny pilot on the pics ? I think this was intended, right ? Quote
xwingyoda Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 What's intended ? That the pilot is a clone pilot with Chris (admiral Giddsens) MF's head and a uzi ? Yoda Quote

Hm, I thought that adding tiles would still allow the cockpit to open. Must've seen that wrong then. Sorry :redsmyliehappy: Finally, I'd personally add some more details to the cockpit. Could you please explain this in greater depth? Well, the stuff you built in it is 1 brick high, yet the cockpit is 2 bricks high. I'd heighten it up a bit and add some neat details. Then again, I love cockpit detailing so I usually go a bit overboard with it. And a small remark on the cockpit itself: how about trying to make it airtight using these or these pieces? Quote
oo7 Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 And a small remark on the cockpit itself: how about trying to make it airtight using these or these pieces? Yep, I've tried that before and I've got it to work but makes the already cramped cockpit even worse and prevents the usage of just the computer pieces I already had, let alone more. I'll post some pics soon to show you. Yoda- Just a pointer, that is the fireman with the silver helmet from the city fire truck, his hair is dark gray, admiral Giddens is brown. Jipay- No, it wasn Quote
oo7 Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Some bad news: Sorry guys, a storm passed through my area, the remains of hurricaine Ernesto, and a tree fell down on a street near me and we lost power for two days and didn't have cable internet for a day or two after that. Some good news: Anyway, here are the pics Some more bad news: I just got home from my first day of the eigth grade Some more good news: This is my 400th post! Quote
Zarkan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Very intetesting. The SNOT looks very smooth, and the ship itself just looks, well, Spacey! Nothing more I can say, except that your experiment is a sucess! ;-) Quote
Chuck Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I think that the botom is a too dull and the engines are too small and dull. Besides that its fine. Quote

A small compact ship doesn't need big fancy engines. Quote
Kahgarak Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Pretty cool!I never knew that 1x1 round plates could be attached to Battle Droid arms that way... *sweet* Quote
jof Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I think that the botom is a too dull and the engines are too small and dull. Besides that its fine. Why do you think all space craft need thruster style engines? Chemical rockets that we use today would be useless for everyday space use, power to weight ratio is not good and they are not that controllable. Ion engines would be better, but are not really designed for zipping around with regardless of what mr Lucas would have us belive. In fact Hyperdrives, magneto-gravimetric drives and temporal displacement drives may not even be visible as they could be deep within the craft itself. The craft would then only need small manouvering thrusters for fine control. OK, big engines look cool, so maybe we shouldn't just scrap them, but they are not the only means of propulsion Jof (Rethinking lego space drive principles.) Quote

All I meant was maybe replace the two 1x1 trans light blue peices that serve as engines with something else. Quote
jof Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 All I meant was maybe replace the two 1x1 trans light blue peices that serve as engines with something else. I am not critisising you lego2000, but those who think spacecraft need BIG engines like we see in real life on shuttle etc. As we don't really know what we could be using for propulsion in the future, they should not get too fixated by big engines. See New scientist Jof Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 The engines do their job. Larger engines would ruin the feeling of a nice, small ship. Quote
