Just got back from Brickfest saw all the sights and was amazed. It didn't dawn on me though until after i left that there were virtually no pirate MOCs displayed. I think i remember two ships maybe? Anyway i found myself very disappointed afterwards and thought that next year there has to be a way to solve this. I came up with a crazy plan the includes whoever wants to display at brickfest but can't make it mailing me their MOCs and i will take them to Brickfest to display for them. i realize that some people would be very wary of sending me there LEGOS but i want to see Pirates represented at brickfest more than i want a bunch of other people's LEGOS. anyway it's a year away so there's plenty of time to hash things out i was jsut wondering if anyone would be interested in doing that.

Too bad that there were none pirate displays, because they are the displays, next after the moonbase displays, that amazes me the most.

BTW how was Brickfest? Never ever been able to attend one myself due to my age and the distance :-(

It was great besides the lack of Pirate MOCs. this was my first year going and i was amazed at some things. So of the castles were just huge. It's hard to get a sense of scale when you look at a MOC on the internet. But when you see it in real life it's really impressive. My only complaint is that there were way to many kids! I know LEGO is a toy and all but they were all over the place, and most were unbehaved! I saw kids touching MOCs, playing with them, taking pieces off them it was crazy. They were also screaming and running nilly-willy all over, after awhile i got very tired of it.

The moonbase was huge, bigger than i could have imagined. It makes me want to figure out a similiar project for Pirates. Maybe like a port city project or something.

I was there. I could've been there. I was right up front. But this was on friday and not a public day, shoulda check that out :-( . Also, could've gone on sunday but didn't. I got a t-shirt, a SNOT sticker, and a pin :-) . I wish i couldv'e been there. Maybe next year?

Yeah, I think there was around four total.

What day did you go? I was there for the Saturday public day, and while there was a lot of kids, I didn't see anyone taking pieces from the MOCs anything. I did see a few touch the MOCs, but they for the most part were stopped by their parents or the builders.

Hey,

I was at BrickFest this year.... more so i even brought some pirate MOCs!!!

I'm not saying that they were amazing, but they did help the display a bit. I had brought a custom built fort for Imperial Guards and then a ship docking there (custom design again).

Here are some pictures from it. I agree that there needs to be more pirates at Brickfest for next year... i would love to continue expanding my fort and create much larger ones since i had so much fun building this one!

don't get me wrong joe cool, i'm not saying you MOC is lame at all, i was saying that the lack of pirates in general was lame. i remeber your MOC and think i may have takin a picture of it myself. I like the dock and island a lot.

Here's a BS folder claiming this is pirate display at the 2006 brickfest but over 80% of the minifigs are castle ones. :-/

i see frank filz's name on this one... he is a huge man in the world of lego pirates (or used to be? i haven't seen much from him or updates on his sites for a while... maybe Mr. Dulin would know more since he is co-moderator over at lugnet pirates?) if i remember correctly he used to run ESPG at brickfest every year and other places... not to mention he had one of the largest fleets known to man lol...

Well i think we're getting a little off the orginal topic. would anyone be willing next year to coordinate with me so that we could get a bigger showing at next years brickfest?

When and Where will it be located would be my first question

Most likely it will be around the same time next year mid-Aug in Washington D.C. (or just outside of it).

any other questions?

Not to be a grinch, but your plan is a bit far fetched. Shipping MOCs across the states or overseas without negative repercussions is null at best. What if upon return the MOCcer discovered that a few red coats are missing? ;-) Is that part of the risk involved? And if you aren't insuring MOCs then I doubt a lot of people will risk their creations just to say they boosted the pirate morale at Brickfest. If you do, you're crazy. ;-)

In my eyes a superior plan would be to provide instructions for a MOC you desire to be displayed at Brickfest. Whoever has the pieces and also plans to visit the event could build the MOC and credit the designer and all that rift raft. In fact this could even spawn competitions... A pirate fan posts his available inventory and challenges everyone to transform the pieces into a MOC. Then he decides which one he prefers and builds it, and so on.

If nothing works out, all we really can do is encourage pirate fans attending Brickfest to build something and help represent the Pirate Community in the process.

I'm glad that you brought this subject up, though, JackDagger. The pirate community can always benefit from some thorough discussion and debate.

Well lets see, i'm already involved in creating an in-depth Pirates universe and a Online RPG for Pirates that involves MoCs... Count me in ^_^

I am curious about your progress. What's the consensus regarding ship class as dictated by cannon number, eh?

i agree with you that people would have to put full trust in me (or someone else) to make it work. But i'm not the kind of person to do that. Now i know your thinking yeah right that's easy to say in a forum. But i'm not. I think there might be a way things could be worked out so that everyone who wanted to participate could.

I was also thinking that it would be nce if Pirates got there own moonbase module thing going. I saw that and instantly saw why it was succesfull. It gets people motivated and brings them together.

anyway just some thoughts

You've bothered to implant (and contribute) yourself into this community of ours, something a scammer probably wouldn't do. ;-) Mainly, I was implying that shipping MOCs can be a very hazardous process. Damage, loss, pilfering (by all of those UPS AFOLs ;-)), etc. It's a lot of hassle.

I concur with you, JackDagger, us pirates need a port-project of our own! Before that materializes we should develop a standard, like that of castle and space. Something simple, like a dimension of a building and dock, so we can make a whole lot of them and snap 'em together. For forts, we could adjust the castle wall standard to our liking, or something like that...

Egad! How did I miss this thread? It appears I haven't posted in it until now.

Dagnammit! The pictures seem to have been deleted!

I get the message "Oops! The photo you were looking for has been deleted." when I follow the link and it seems to be a root folder.

I seeme do have missed Joe Cool completely too. This thread must have been created in my 10 day absence.

Well, you have to understand that pirate isn't really a major theme during brickfest, and isn't generally looked upon much by the whole lego community in general. I am not trying to insult any of you, I am just stating this.
