I've recently got an Unimog 8110. After the assembling I found out that small pneumatic cylinder seems to leak air. When I try to open the claws (just by switching claw opening switch), the pressure in arm decreases and the whole arm falls down. When I put the switch in other position, the pressure slowly returns.

I have tried to replace the tubes and to change the switch but it seems that the problem is in small cylinder. What might cause this error and is there some home remedy for this?

Sounds like one of the rubber seals inside got loose or the grease isn't spread evenly.

Open the top part of the cylinder with a sharp knife (you have to list one plastic part over the notch in the other), and check if the rings are in their sockets and if the grease is spread evenly. If not, use some plastic-friendly bicycle grease.

If that doesn't work, call LEGO customer service :)

I had the same problem and they replaced the part for me,just got it today,ring them with the part number.

Thank you for advices. I have decided to contact Lego before trying to open the cylinder with a sharp object. However, to say something in Lego defense - I have quite some number of pneumatic cylinders and this is the first to develop a leak.

I had the same problem with my set - seems to be one of the first sets. I contacted Lego via email and the told me they don't have this part in stock. After asking how this is possible - the Unimog is a new set - they sent me a complete set of pneumatic cylinders, hoses and so on... that's service.

Yes that's what I got too.

..which is a shame really, because that must be costing them a small fortune while the problem is usually relatively easy to fix.

Yes, but I got all pneumatic parts needed for the B-Model without buying them ;-)

I believe they will send out only the small cylinders when they have spare parts - perhaps they only have full packages at the moment and don't expect a lot of people with this problem.

I had a problem with one of the cylinders in my 8049 tractor and they also sent me the entire package - two cylinders, a mini cylinder, a pump and several feet of tubing, instead of just the one cylinder. This must be costing them the better part of their profit margin on the sets which is not good.

Also one of their telephonists told me that the reason that they had so few pneumatic sets in recent years is because the parts are expensive to make, hard to QA and thus require frequent replacing.

There was a recall of al Unimog packages after some days, when it was released end of June.

The reason was the leaking mini cylinder.

@tripletschiee: Thanks for this information. I was vaguely reading about this but in my mind it was more related to the pump (should be more careful). Furthermore, for a month or so the unimogs were nowhere to be found in my country. So I assumed that those are sets without a problem.

Well, we'll see what customer service will do. They have been extremely helpful to me in the past.

Ur rite and the blue is not nice at all,I hope people don't start jumping on the band wagon with this just to get free parts as it's not fair on Lego.there should only be a very small few sets with this problem.

Got replacement part(s). Thanks Lego! Now Unimog works OK!

Afterwards I've disassembled the faulty small cylinder. It seems that there is a leak at the seal ring between the cylinder and the rod. I've tried to clean it and looked for some obvious faults but couldn't found one.

Nevertheless, I am quite happy about solution. Another great customer support for me.
