captainmib Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I know I'm not speaking for all of us... a huge non-wheeled model (the helicopter, which looks awesome) a very nice airplane (I really love this set) some nice smaller models and not to forget; new parts or parts in new colors. I am happy with the 2012 line-up! Yes, yes and yes! Airplane is a lovely set. Nice to build, good parts and functions. Helicopter is a sweet looking thing! I think i will want to buy it when it's released. I like it also that there isnt a motor in it... Quote
Saberwing40k Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) the helicopter is pretty good, a definate get. the log loader and the tow truck i might get. the only thing i don't like about the crawler is that it has a red instead of an orange chassis, and it's still infared control (please don't be $200) Edited January 25, 2012 by Saberwing40k Quote
Anio Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) Servo motors?????? But what are you going to say when Lego will produce a PFS compressor with switch ? Edited January 25, 2012 by Anio Quote
paul_delahaye Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 That definitely looks like a small green tractor, about the same proportions as the tractor from the tractor and log loader set 8049 from a few years back, it could possibly be a rehash of that tractor, we have certainly seen that before, Anyone else feel we are missing a technic set from the 2nd half 2012 that we don't know about, maybe the TRU exclusive set, around the £50 mark? seems too big a gap between the tractor and the helicopter? S.I Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I'm really happy that it is not motorized, and I guess I'm not the only one. I agree, I would prefer only having the two flagships motorized each year, and the other sets have instructions to add them. I have a pile of battery boxes from sets with a motor. Quote

sama Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Uploaded with ImageShack.us looking at both pics I think they added more white stickers or something if you look at the top picture it doesn't seem to have as much white on the top ofthe model in the prelim pics. normaly I don't care but white on a truck is so ugly it reminds me to much of cheap work trucks. ButI am forsure buying at least 2 maybe build one salvage the other for future projects. You can't really see the bed, that's why. From the preliminary picture, you could see part of the bed and it is white. Quote
allanp Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 But what are you going to say when Lego will produce a PFS compressor with switch ? Well with the new longer pump from the unimog and now with a servo motor, compressors and RC valves can be built quite neatly and intuatively in a way that works great without taking up too much room. Hopefully this new servo will enable us to control a pneumatic valve remotely with good precision. It's the longer pneumatics i'm really hoping for now! Quote
sama Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) A big plus is the black rims! And does anyone see any springs for the suspension? What type are they going to be? Edited January 25, 2012 by sama Quote
davidmull Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Looks like 2012 might be a good one yet :) Quote
AVCampos Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) And does anyone see any springs for the suspension? What type are they going to be? If the Rock Crawler puts emphasis on "crawler", I'd say it doesn't have any springs at all, at least on the front axle. For slow speeds, a pendular axle, like those on the 8284 and the 8261, ensures better that all wheels always touch the ground. Edited January 26, 2012 by AVCampos Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 One of the axles sure must has suspension, I personally think both axles will have. Quote
vmln8r Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I hope the new drive motors have two linear axle outputs, so you can put them in the model axle tranversally. In the comments on the TBs post: ...I got a good look (and play) with the 4x4. It has two new servo motors, which are like stubby M-motors, and a new drive motor, which looks as big as an XL motor but is very slow and allows a drive axle all the way through. Quote

sama Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 What, so now there is a huge and powerful (slow) motor and two servo motors? Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 May be a XL motor with a long axle hole through to easily do 4x4 vehicles. Quote
Jim Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 May be a XL motor with a long axle hole through to easily do 4x4 vehicles. That would be a nice addition to the Motor gamma, wouldn't it? Being able to mount a motor in the middle of one's chassis, with the axle going straight through it Indeed for 4x4 or just to easily connect to the fake engine. Can't wait. Quote
allanp Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) I like the idea of having an axle going all the way through, but c'mon, we already have a slow m-motor and a really slow XL motor, do we really need another really slow motor when we don't have a fast motor? But at least we get two servos instead of just one, so that's good! Edited January 26, 2012 by allanp Quote
AVCampos Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 do we really need another really slow motor when we don't have a fast motor? Actually, we already have the E motor, which has less gear reduction than the M and XL motors, and is therefore faster than them. Quote
allanp Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Actually, we already have the E motor, which has less gear reduction than the M and XL motors, and is therefore faster than them. At 800 rpm the E-motor really is not fast at all. The RC buggy motor has some reduction but it does spin well above 1000 rpm, which is still not that fast for a motor but still not a bad speed I guess. It is interesitng however that he says there are two servos and one drive motor, which is the opposite to the other report and also the prelim box images show one servo and two l-motors (as m-motors), so it could be that the very slow motor is the servo motor and the two stubby motors are the drive motors. This would make more sence to me as a servo motor would be very slow and having a central differencial in that one slow motor as well as the gearing and internal motor seems not plausible. I could be wrong tho. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I think 2 servos for double steering and one more ? motor for propulsion... but... only a controller for double steering is not posible if you want to move the car at time... Quote
rener Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I think 2 servos for double steering and one more ? motor for propulsion... but... only a controller for double steering is not posible if you want to move the car at time... Maybe for a transmission system? I certainly hope so, otherwise my interest in "just a remote controlled car" is not so big. Technic for me is mostly about techniques (if you get my drift...), and 9398 seems to be lacking somewhat in that area... But, with so little info, we have to wait and see. Quote

sama Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Does anybody think 9398 will come with a fake engine? And slightly off-topic, do pins in the new engine cylinders (the one with no slits) stay compressed in the hole or do they "click" in place? Quote
