As far as the sets w/ the generic lego bits, how is the quality? Now that i'm offically an ex-lego fan, i'm looking at other sets now. Nothing for the second buying wise but for a few small things on the christmas list. I tried a 1 dollar DG store set and a small best lock set but i don't like the quality of either. I have 1 more set to try out. However, I keep hearing Knex being praised as a company and am thinking of them next. BUT i'd like to here it from an uncensored community.

EDIT: also, does anyone know if it's possible to hate the company but love the products? As much as i hate the lego company itself, i like the products. I tried the 3rd set, a superblox, and it's actually pretty good for generic. However, i don't like the minifigure.

Being that this is a forum full of people who love LEGO, you probably won't get a lot of recommendations for competing products.

There are numerous reviews of clone brands and off brands in the community forum. I suggest you browse some of those to get an idea of their quality.

I don't know what your beef is with TLG (and I don't really want to) but if a company produces a product you love, go ahead and buy it. Just know that you are financially supporting the company that makes it. As long as you make peace with that fact, you'll be good.

Just because you don't want to give the CEO of say, Walmart, a big old hug doesn't mean you can't buy toilet paper there.

I agree with Big Cam, I don't know how helpful EB is for finding suitable off brands of construction sets (if they do exist). We love LEGO here.

From my own personal experience, the bricks and plates you find in K'nex sets don't have very much clutch. Things tend to fall apart from gentle handling if you don't interlock the plates and bricks.

There is also a tendency to use stickers across multiple pieces. This is especially a problem with curved elements.

Go lie down.

It's quite senseless to ask on a forum full of Lego fans such a question. It appears to me quite provocative. It's like saying "hey you guys fans of shitty Alpha Romeo, which better car brand would you recommend me ?" I would recommend you to use your brain, if your Lego brand trauma hasn't damaged it too much :hmpf_bad:
