Bob Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks for playing, Cralegoboy. I only wish you had been more active. ProfessorFlitwick, K-nut, and CallMePie may not post.
K-Nut Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I almost threw myself over the chair when I thought that Ashley had gotten killed. You were a wonderful player cralegoboy and I hope to play with you in the future! And me getting wounded has nothing to do with me being gone from Thursday to Monday, right?
CorneliusMurdock Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Marcus playing with action figures is hilarious. I actually thought that maybe he'd had some friends to go cosplaying with for a second there. Great fake-out, Bob!
Professor Flitwick Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Marcus playing with action figures is hilarious. I actually thought that maybe he'd had some friends to go cosplaying with for a second there. Great fake-out, Bob! I personally thought that it was a dream!
Sisco Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks for playing, Cralegoboy. I only wish you had been more active. Sorry, Bob. A lot of things popped up during the course of this game (the deaths of a family member and a friend in the same week, for one), so I definitely wasn't as active as I could/should have been. I'll try a lot harder in the next game.
Bob Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 I almost threw myself over the chair when I thought that Ashley had gotten killed. You were a wonderful player cralegoboy and I hope to play with you in the future! And me getting wounded has nothing to do with me being gone from Thursday to Monday, right? No, that was completely unintentional. Marcus playing with action figures is hilarious. I actually thought that maybe he'd had some friends to go cosplaying with for a second there. Great fake-out, Bob! I've been wanting to showcase those Star Trek figures for a few months, but I never really found a setting appropriate enough to do so. Initially Marcus dressing up was the plan, but then I figured that I'd make him look like more of a loser by having him play with action figures at night. Sorry, Bob. A lot of things popped up during the course of this game (the deaths of a family member and a friend in the same week, for one), so I definitely wasn't as active as I could/should have been. I'll try a lot harder in the next game. I completely understand, real life takes superiority over these games all the time. I hope there's a future game for you to try harder in. Honestly, this is the last town setting game I'll ever do. I do like hosting though, but there's a few problems that I'll share with everyone at the end as to why I'll never host a game in a large open expansive town setting again. If I host again, I'll have to give my sig-fig a better position of power. He's gone from Governor to Congressman, and now he's a Mayor.
K-Nut Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 He's gone from Governor to Congressman, and now he's a Mayor. We should be playing Prohibition Mafia as we speak.
Bob Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 We should be playing Prohibition Mafia as we speak. Don't even bring that game up.

Well, there is one on the 'Future Mystery Games' list in the role playing index, but it's been there for a while. I know this one hasn't ended yet, but I'm glad to know you're thinking of hosting again. If I host again, I'll have to give my sig-fig a better position of power. He's gone from Governor to Congressman, and now he's a Mayor. How about upgrading him to President? Whitehouse Mystery!
Peanuts Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 How about upgrading him to President? Whitehouse Mystery! My thoughts exactly! I loved the opening of that chapter, Bob. Brilliant idea with those Star Trek figs. And finally some action!
K-Nut Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 "Stop breaking the fourth wall." "Sorry. It's not my fault really. Where are you going next?" "Dementor? What's this? Harry Potter!" "They have done other things sir, and what's Harry Potter?" "Sorry, I broke down the fourth wall again." Plagiarist.
Bob Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Plagiarist. Please, I've been breaking the fourth wall ever since Red Scare Mystery.
Professor Flitwick Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Bob, ADHO... what's Jeremy doing in the 1950's?
K-Nut Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Bob, ADHO... what's Jeremy doing in the 1950's? Mystery of the fountain of youth? Or maybe it's Jack.
CMP Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Bob, ADHO... what's Jeremy doing in the 1950's? Please, I'm wondering why Amber got a haircut when she came here.
ADHO15 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Bob, ADHO... what's Jeremy doing in the 1950's? [looks shiftily from side to side] That's obviously not me, but my... er... Grandpa Jeremiah!
CMP Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Why are we paused? Damn, I had a feeling Marcus was going to limp heroically into scene that post....
Bob Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Right then, if you notice in the Chapter Six thread, I've paused the game. Players (14) Mr. Jack Montgomery --- Mrlegoninja: 1 Mrs. Julia Montgomery --- Dannylonglegs: 0 Jeremy Montgomery --- ADHO15: 3 Mrs. Sarah Jordan --- Brickdoctor: 4 Mr. Winston Robertson --- Rumble Strike: 3 Amber Robertson --- Peanuts: 5 Officer Steven Jackson --- Professor Flitwick: Exempt Ashley Baker --- K-nut: Exempt Marcus Baker --- CallMePieOrDie: Exempt Officer Ryan Hutch --- badboytje88: 0 Mr. James Swanson --- CorneliusMurdock: 6 Robbie Swanson --- Jedi master Brick: 2 Deputy Chief Jackie Scott --- Fugazi: 7 Mayor Bob or various NPC's I play --- Bob_ : 12 What does this tell you? Two people haven't even posted today. This game has the enthusiasm of a morgue or a cemetery. It's gotten so bad that I've become cynical towards it. It's to the point where I have to make jokes about the game just so I can keep interest in it. Why should I even bother hosting if nobody is going to play? The reason that somebody hosts a game is so people can play it and enjoy it. The reason people host is because they like to host and they like a relative form of control. There's certain things a host can control. They control who is scum, they control the night actions, they control everything about the mechanics of the game. However, the one thing a host can't control are the people that are enrolled to play in the game. However, usually it all works out to the point where the host doesn't have to worry about the participation or the maturity of the player. A happy host equals happy players, it's a simple theory. But when you try to frustrate and anger the host with lack of participation, activeness, ignoring rules, ignoring clues, ignoring just about everything that I've played out, then the host will make your lives miserable. What's my motivation to host this game? Simply because I like Eurobricks and I wanted to bring a fun and enjoyable game forward to people. I put a few months of planning and preparation and waited a few months to be approved to host this game, and imagine my disappointment when I received six signups within the first 24 hours of the signup thread being open. Imagine my disappointment when I had to lower the number of characters down to 14. This game started on September 17th. It is now October 26th and we are more than halfway through it. In a month and nine days, the game has lost interest among half its players. Even in Chapter Two participating was lacking. What's this mean for you players that actually still care? I will continue to host this game even if I have to kill off all the characters, then bring them back as NPC's and act their actions out myself. I did it back in Red Scare Mystery with Burman's character when he had backstory that I wanted to implement, but Burman was never active. Why am I continuing on? Because I worked too hard on this game to just quit and throw in the towel. I had originally wanted to unleash this rant at the end of the game, but the situation has gotten, to put it bluntly, offensive, that I have to start midway through the game. Let's start off at the start, shall we? 1) You know your game is bad and frowned upon when the Games Moderator, a veteran that's been in every mafia and mystery game on this board, doesn't sign up. When I didn't get much of a "staff All-Star" turn out in Red Scare Mystery, I accepted it because I figured everyone had read Prohibition Mafia and assumed that I was a terrible host. However, I'd like to think I did a pretty good job on Red Scare Mystery. I received praise for it in the conclusion thread. So I was all smiles and happy when I put up the signup thread expecting the "All-Star's" to sign up for it. And none of them did. Not a single staff member. The only two fellows that did sign up are Fugazi and CorneliusMurdock, two novices at the start of Red Scare Mystery that emerged into great mystery players by the end. 2) Player participation. This is a big one, and I believe I let it all out a few paragraphs ago, but I have so much built up rage and anger, so why not? Let me throw this right out here. Chapter Twelve of Red Scare Mystery had 18 pages. And that was after six months of rigorous game play. Chapter Two has six. Chapter One, the start of the freaking game, has 10. Can anyone explain this to me? I sure can't explain it. 3) Miscellaneous Actions. Every even night I have had an action for myself. On Night Two, I beat up CallMePie with a bat. On Night Four, I burned down Fugazi's house. People don't understand these and I'm not sure why. You can do anything except kill someone. You could even kill yourself if you really wanted to. Break windows, throw trash cans, set up traps, burn down a tree, break the statues, do something other than "I'd like to follow player." This isn't a mafia game! Think outside the box! 4) Investigating. People are investigating in all the wrong places. The biggest and most glaring example of this is the three chapters you spent in the police station. THREE CHAPTERS! Argh! I think you've investigated five locations. Out of about 20. And that's my rant. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a bit of a loser or whiner, but it's getting to an intolerable level on my end. For those who care, I'd like to hear some feedback or opinion.
CMP Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I already have a decent guess at who the people are, but we basically have to wait until the end of the game to do anything. Investigations don't really bring us anywhere, as has been the case in Red Scare. I was seriously lost, and I based my guesses on who was dying and why. Mystery games are the minority here. It doesn't seem like that's going to change. Everybody would probably rather play mafia. That's why everybody is playing this LIKE a mafia. They're basing things on actions, deaths, and how people act during the day, not on the investigations taking place. The only solid evidence I think the players have is the tapes, pictures, and questioning NPCs. With so little to go on, we play the way we know how: like a mafia.
CorneliusMurdock Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I don't know what to say, Bob. I'm having fun. There are good characters, plot and pictures to tell it all. You're not a bad host and you've been doing everything right. Some players here need to start taking some responsibility for this game and step it up. I would be ticked off if I were you as well. I think it's up to you how best to proceed. There are those of us who are still willing to play but if you'd like to wash your hands of the whole thing, I don't think we'll blame you.
CMP Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I'd want the game to continue, unless it bother you that much. I enjoy playing Marcus. Most fun I've had roleplaying on the forum.
Bob Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 I think it's up to you how best to proceed. There are those of us who are still willing to play but if you'd like to wash your hands of the whole thing, I don't think we'll blame you. As I said, I have no intent on quitting. I know there's people still willing to play and I'm very happy about that. The group of people willing to play the game are primarily the main reason as to why this game has lasted as long as it has. I believe the rest of what I'm going to hear are just echoes of what has been said, so I'll go ahead and unpause the game. And look, CallMePie is back!
ADHO15 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Well quite frankly, Bob, I think it's quite rude to just shout at us like this and let out all this anger on people who don't really deserve it. Mayor Bob or various NPC's I play --- Bob_ : 12 What does this tell you? Two people haven't even posted today. This is pretty obvious, considering you're the host. I think that in comparison to this, most people's post count for this chapter has been about right. Two people haven't posted, no, but some people just have busy days, especially when one of them is hosting another game. I think this can be let off especially when we have nothing to go on. What is this all about? Grouping an argument like this in the a post where you're having a go at the rest of us makes it look like you're blaming us and that doesn't seem fair at all. If you didn't want newbies or mere Counts and below in your game, you shouldn't have accepted us. Take this up with Dragonator in a PM; don't make a scene. I put a few months of planning and preparation and waited a few months to be approved to host this game, and imagine my disappointment when I received six signups within the first 24 hours of the signup thread being open. Imagine my disappointment when I had to lower the number of characters down to 14. Again, this isn't our fault. We're the ones who 'were decent enough' to sign-up, for want of a better phrase. Maybe the Games Moderator should have a duty to play, but as was mentioned above, mysteries just aren't as popular as Mafia games, and people don't have to play if they don't want to, especially when they're playing other games. I didn't follow Red Scare, so I don't know what it was like there, but I feel that we don't have anything to go on most of the time, so what can you expect us to do? We're not going to post if we've got nothing to say. Getting enough votes to move to a different location usually takes half a day to a full day, so that eats up loads of time. Speaking for myself, I'm new to Mafia games, so you can't expect me to lead the charge. I'm still observing most of the time, and posting when I see reason to. So my particpation isn't low just because my post count is, and I'm sure that applies to others. Alright, this may be a bit of fun, but I think that messing about like that will only mess up the investigation. Having someone burning down a park or attacking someone with a baseball bat just puts you at the top of the murder suspect list in my eyes, when all the were doing is 'thinking about the box'. I don't do that stuff in real life, so believe it or not, the first things to enter my mind when night rolls around isn't "I want to go next door and throw bins through the window"! 4) Investigating. People are investigating in all the wrong places. The biggest and most glaring example of this is the three chapters you spent in the police station. THREE CHAPTERS! Argh! I think you've investigated five locations. Out of about 20. Where are we supposed to investigate then?! We visit the homes of the top suspects and... nothing. We visit the workplace of the deceased and several suspects and as good as nothing there either. The CCTV shows a bit, but... I mean a hand? How's that going to help? The docks produce no evidence. Out of those 20, how many actually help us solve this murder? For those who care, I'd like to hear some feedback or opinion. I care, and so there's my feedback. Sorry it's just a rant back, but I think that's what you called for.
