Poison Ivy Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Wow! I really love Core Hunter and XT4, the parts selection on both look astounding! The introduction of a silver 2.0 shield on Bulk and Stringer is nice as well. My only complaint here is the 'wings' on Stormer XL's arms. They look....out of place, to me. Oh well, it will be an easy MOD I guess. Quote
Shakar Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) I'm quite sure the new wing armour pieces attache via 2 small pins (the ones that can attach to a minifig hand, I don't know how they're called), much like the 2.0 Hero torso aromour, the Fire Villains "cores", the Savage Planet villains heads, the 2012 shoulder pad piece, and so on- so, you're going to able to remove them without sacrificing the arm cladding. It's such a widely used connection style in HF that I believe the new shin armour piece (see Captain America) will attach the same way and (I'm probably going to regret saying this later, but oh well) the same will be for the Stormer/Hulk chestplate. Bundalings Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 @ expensive Splitface: I thought that was just a mistake at my Target. I wonder if it rings up as $20 at the register? If so that is ridiculous. Quote
Dorek Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 It's the same way at my Target; I'm glad I bought mine online =P Quote
Taaron Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Wow. Good to know I'm not the only one's Target that's like that. Geez. I wish I had my receipt still. I bought Splitface from that same Target last month. Might of been overcharged. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Same as my target. Felt odd to gladly take the $2 TRU markup. Quote
Rocketbilly Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) So I was wondering what the general consensus was on when we might expect an update to the Hero Recon team? I'm hoping that whenthe update come they'll still keep a lot of the 2.0 and 3.0 elements, though I can see some of them being removed since they're not used in sets any more. Edited January 31, 2012 by Rocketbilly Quote
Dorek Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 It all depends on how they're going to do it, really. We have two sizes of Hero (not to mention the smaller torso being used) so it all depends on how they're going to structure this; they could easily ignore the second size Hero, but I'd like some kind of acknowledgement of it. I don't think they'll remove any elements just yet, since they didn't do it for 2.0. Quote
optimus99 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 hey guys I live in the U.S. and breez v.4 is still not out in stores or on the lego website does anyone know why? Quote
Aanchir Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 hey guys I live in the U.S. and breez v.4 is still not out in stores or on the lego website does anyone know why? The set's release has been delayed, but it's not known for how long. It could be that it's been delayed until summer along with Thornraxx, since it's been observed that the summer wave is smaller than the winter one based on the sets we know currently. Sets have been delayed in the United States like this before-- the final wave of Power Miners in 2009 was split 50/50 between winter and summer here, as was the final wave of Atlantis in 2010. The LEGO City Space sets all came out around a half a year later in the United States than they did in many other countries. I certainly hope it comes out soon. Breez is the Hero Factory set I intend to get first, and I don't intend to order it from overseas to do so. Quote
optimus99 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 thanks for the info. and same here I don't want to order it from another country. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Someone on BZPower linked here, where there's a video of the new HF sets from (presumably) the London Toy Fair. Not too much detail, but we can see many of the sets. I'm very intrigued by Stringer, who definitely isn't Earth Blue but also doesn't quite seem like regular Bright Blue. I'm wondering... could it be a new glow-in-the-dark color? I'm probably being silly though; it could just be Bright Blue. Here's a direct link to the video on Vimeo. It's easier to watch there. Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Voltix looks really better now, the colours aren't that mashed up and now he/she/it has a great colour scheme. Poor Breez, on the chair, defeated, who could do this D: And Core Hunter's sexy back. XT4's yellow looks rather... Weird. Quote
dviddy Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm very intrigued by Stringer, who definitely isn't Earth Blue but also doesn't quite seem like regular Bright Blue. His torso armour, on the other hand, looks almost trans-blue. Quote
Shakar Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Nice, at last! I hope we will get some detailed pictures soon. It's a pity the sets are always so poorly posed (Breeeeeeez!). The camera doesn't really help. Stringer seems to have printing, but Nex and Bulk are so terribly posed I can't tell. Nex is really growing on me, the tube is a really nice touch (though I wish they made a bright green tube, rather than reusing the lime one). But didn't he have a gunmetal shin armour piece on his left leg? I'll wait for better pictures. Stormer..eh, can't tell. He doesn't seem to have printing; then again Toy Fair sets are often prototypes (I remember Bulk 3.0 having infected Quaza spikes instead of his silver claws). I spy some shade of blue on his sword (and on his shoulders- oh yeah!), in contrast to the fully silver Breez katana in that catalogue showing Speeda Demon. Less useful, but better looking, IMO. I was about to say it was some sort of tr. blue colour, but then I realized it is a really opaque colour. Thornraxx's azure? Speaking of Demon, he doesn't seem to be featured. I thought he might be a store exclusive, then I took a look the Ninjago video and I didn't see any summer set there. I don't know what to think. On the villains- XT4 doesn't look as good as he did previously, due to the leg being straightened (they're supposed to be goat-like legs, damn it!) and all that gratuitous dark bley that's been plaguing sets since summer 2011. Voltix looks great as usual, I just wish his legs had some more purple- eh, lilac. Core Hunter..same as Stormer. Who poses these sets, seriously? tl;dr: I mostly like what I see, but I would see a lot more if they replaced whoever poses the sets with a more competent person. Aanchir Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 His cladding looks like regular, good ol' blue. His torso armour, on the other hand, looks almost trans-blue. Good point! Yes, I think you're correct, the torso seems to be some type of transparent blue. I hope it looks good in the final set... Keep in mind that that in certain materials (like the one used for the Vahki's eyestalks), transparent colors can look extremely opaque (or in the very least, nowhere near as glassy-looking as would be needed to show transparency unless backlit). Based on this picture of Black Phantom's sword piece, it may be a material that has that effect-- and if the prelim pics are the least bit reliable, then that's the same piece being used for Stormer XL's sword (although the color here is different than in the prelim pics). Quote
Shakar Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Yeah, I thought about the blade in Black Phantom's mace. But what about the cladding on the shoulders? That definitely isn't bright blue. Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Bulk: TOO MUCH BLACK. Quite bad from the looks of things. Stormer XL: Looking good. Am I the only one who thinks an updated version of his 1.0 weapon is featured with the model there? Seems very different from the preliminary image. Nex: Can't see much, but he looks okay. Stringer: Pretty darn cool. Trans-blue chestplate? Hell yeah! Core Hunter: Can't give an honest opinion, as I can only see his back. I'm still convinced he'll be the best set of the wave, though. XT4 (we'd better get an explanation for that name): Can't see much, but it looks like he uses amber (some may call it "keetorange"), instead of bright yellow. The set itself is meh, too spindly. Voltix: Colour scheme still seems terrible to me. The build itself looks average, but hey, at least I was right about the colour of his helmet from the beginning. Overall, Stormer XL, Stringer, Core Hunter (and Speeda Demon) = Good. Bulk, Nex, XT4, Voltix = Average to bad. Still, for the parts and teh moneyz, I'll pick 'em all up. Quote
nuparu51 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Nex, from what I saw, is actually growing on me. I wish we had a better look at Core Hunter, though. Stringer and stormer are okay. The others, though... Quote
Shakar Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I just noticed Voltix's lightning isn't yellow like on the catalogue, but a mix of lime and bright blue. Those pieces look really nice, but they don't match the rest of his colour scheme very well..I hope at least Speeda Demon's bike keeps the tr. yellow lightning pieces- Those recoloured Surge swords are gorgeus! And yes, Bulk's colour coordination is weird. The colour choices are excellent (the orange is great continuity sign, just like Surge's lime and Breez's red), but the additional colours ovewhelm silver so much. Quote
Rocketbilly Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Good point! Yes, I think you're correct, the torso seems to be some type of transparent blue. I hope it looks good in the final set... Hmmm, your previous mention of it perhaps being a glow n the dark colour reminded me of the blue glow in the dark pieces on Takadox and Nocturn back in the day... I wonder what the chances of LEGO using something similar to that are? after all, that was its own shade of blue and was somewhat transparent. I'm hoping for that, since I adore those pieces. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm still quite fond of Bulk, although his colors seem somewhat awkwardly organized. It's really hard to tell because they're looking at him from such an awkward angle. I still think his overall build looks brilliant, and I look forward to getting a better look at him. He looks genuinely bulky, which is one aspect the 3.0 set was criticized for lacking. Stringer is posed badly in that pic I think, but if his weapon is indeed a guitar as it seemed in the retailer's catalog he wins by default. The transparent torso seems to be about the same color as his head piece (Transparent Fluorescent Blue/Bricklink's Transparent Medium Blue). It's somewhat easy to warm up to him having blue instead of orange, surprisingly, perhaps because cool colors are so underrepresented in the Hero lineup, or perhaps just because like in Power Miners the color is around the same distance from the primary color on a color wheel. Nex also looks cool, but it's hard to make out any details that weren't visible from the retailer's catalog, besides the tubing on his back. I also can't determine much about Core Hunter. Likewise, XT4 is almost impossible to make out any detail on. Some people suspect he may be Flame Yellowish Orange (Keetorange), but I'm not so sure. In the brief time he and Evo are both on camera, they look the same color, so I'd attribute any inconsistencies in their color to either bad lighting or prototype parts with misleading textures. In some ways, Voltix's color scheme still looks cluttered, but at the same time my overall impression of him is very positive. Some purple on his legs would have been nice, but in general his color scheme sticks to about three main colors-- Titanium Metallic, Medium Lilac and Bright Red. IMO, the yellowish colors of his head, weapons, and lightning bolts don't harm his color scheme any more than the green of Toa Inika Jaller's head, Zamor Spheres, and sword hurt his three-color color scheme. The blue tubing and blue color of his lightning horns are the only things that possibly feel like overkill. Stormer XL: Looking good. Am I the only one who thinks an updated version of his 1.0 weapon is featured with the model there? Seems very different from the preliminary image. Pretty sure it's the same weapon he had in the retailer's catalog (two of Batman/Breez/Black Phantom's swords back-to-back as one giant broadsword). It's just a different color than it was in the retailer's catalog. Quote
Dorek Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Some good looking stuff in all this. Loving Stringer's blue, though his height will probably bother me at some point. Looks like a pattern on his (oh so gloriously trans-blue) chest, so good times. A bit hard to tell anything else, but ah well. Stormer's bluer swords are a good touch, they weren't even like that on Batman. Voltix is looking pretty pimp (it's a joke, get it?), much more cohesive with the colors than previous designs would have indicated; red, purple, and gunmetal, with yellow accents for his weapons and such. Who knew those four colors could come together so nicely? (that trans blue tubing is great, too) Edited February 1, 2012 by Dorek Quote
Aethersprite Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Regardless of Stringer's blue, I really hope they will change the colour of the cladding to match his torso armour. Quote
MakutaDreadscythe Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Regardless of Stringer's blue, I really hope they will change the colour of the cladding to match his torso armour. Hmmm...that would be a very cool concept, a black and trans-blue figure that would have similar effect to the light-pipeing in the eyes! Quote
