Kalhiki Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Can't wait till they hit the states! Can't wait even more for the reviews! Kalhiki Quote
Shakar Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Hopefully ours will be good. -Gata Just make sure to do picture reviews- there are already lots of people doing video reviews over YT, and pic reviews provide lots of pretty pictures to save in my folder. Quote

Masta' Blasta' Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Please excuse me if this was previously posted, but I'm fairly sure it hasn't been. Apparently there will be yet another new book called "Secret Mission 3." Here is the Amazon link, for your pleasure. Apparently it will be published by Scholastic and will feature 144 pages of papery goodness. I'm thinking the book will be aimed at younger kids, as usual, but it still could be good. Also, great to hear that we'll be getting some pictorial reviews of the Summer Wave up soon. Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Hey, Dreadscythe, it seems you were right about Stormer XL having a grey torso piece, and pretty much everything else you said about his build. Quote
MakutaDreadscythe Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Hey, Dreadscythe, it seems you were right about Stormer XL having a grey torso piece, and pretty much everything else you said about his build. Told ya so. Thanks Takua11on! Well, regarding Stormer XL, I actually like this guy. Sure, there's room for improvement, but at least it isn't Rocka-Lord-Phantom Mk.IV. I can see where he can be improved (arm length, leg design, etc) and will post mods once I get him in 7 centuries. EDIT: Just noticed something in his constuction. Instead of using the internal ball joints to attatch the shoulders (the blue pieces) they place 2 bone pieces with pins between the two torso pieces (kinda hard to describe, you'll see when someone posts pictures of this guy). Takua Nui Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I still haven't decided on which sets I'll buy. Is it true that XT4 uses a new main body piece? Quote
Kalhiki Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I still haven't decided on which sets I'll buy. Is it true that XT4 uses a new main body piece? Yep. A new, small body. Actually pretty excited for that piece. It has so much MoCing potential. Kalhiki Quote
Aanchir Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Yep. A new, small body. Actually pretty excited for that piece. It has so much MoCing potential. Kalhiki I'm curious to see how it'll be used in future sets. Obviously it can be used as a structural element for larger figures like the Ultrabuild Super Heroes, or just as a torso bone for characters like XT4 who have non-humanoid proportions, but I'm also curious if we might see smaller-scale characters like the Matoran sets of BIONICLE begin to emerge. If we did, they could potentially include useful new bone and shell pieces. Stormer XL's 3M Beam C (double-ball cup) could also be useful for smaller-scale figures as well as for larger-scale figures like Stormer XL. And let's not forget the connector piece used on Stormer's ankles-- the versatility of that piece should be obvious! Overall the summer wave has several excellent bone and connector pieces that should prove useful to the Hero Factory building system for years to come. Quote

vexorian Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 To be honest I am not as ultra excited about the new torso piece as others. Mostly because I can already make small MoCs by combining parts I already got. And I mean: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=496647 But it is a good addition to a set that already had good stuff. Quote
DraikNova Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) I'm a bit excited by the Nex-XT4 combo model. Quadruped walker with cannon and sawblade anyone? We can now build MoL accurate matoran with the torso piece. Plus, we finally get tan rods again. Voltix-Stringer combo looks extremely evil and makes good use of the purple. It has an interesting use of the amp armor. Edited June 23, 2012 by DraikNova Quote
vexorian Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Hah, reviewer got bad taste. Just alter the color scheme a little and the combiner is a perfect monster. I doubt the new torso piece is going to be used a lot in future sets. Unless it is adapted to a new titan build. Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Hah, reviewer got bad taste. Just alter the color scheme a little and the combiner is a perfect monster. I think it looks terrible. Quote
Shakar Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Amazing reviews. I was nearly drooling at Stormer's back box shot. Stringer looks so nice. The combiner looks pretty cool too- Voltix helmet with Stringer's blue Glatorian head looks amazing. Back on Stringer, the clash between solid blue and tr. blue is worse than I thought. Ah well. Speeda, with his arms posed like that, kinda looks like a chinese dragon. I guess they were going for a eastern look for him, what with the giant katana and the horns. I like how the bike looks, but I wish it had some form of kickstand like the Furno Bike did. Seeing it falling off repeatedly was annoying. Stormer..eh, I haven't watched the whole video yet. But I am happy he uses stickers- maybe I'll try to buy an extra sticker sheet off BL so I can decorate the rest of his body. Whaat, did he call Stormer's build "horrible"? I realize not everybody is going to like it, but come on, it's pretty clever using two torsos like that. Anyway, I think he looks amazing. I was surprised the dark bley torso has wide shoulders, unlike Hulk (the "secondary torso bone" had narrow shoulders). Oh look, he posted Voltix too! I think he looks wonderful, haters gonna get electryfied hate. Yeah, I'm editing this post as I watch the reviews. It's a wonderful flow of unrestrained thoughts. Edited June 23, 2012 by Shakar Quote
Metalshadow Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Disappointed Stormer uses stickers. And from what I can tell from those reviews, it looks like the Glatorian heads have NOT been remolded. But other than those two complaints, I'm digging everything I'm seeing here. Quote
vexorian Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Not a fan of video reviews. Take ages to download and at the end, since it is a compressed video and the reviewer keeps moving the stuff you don't get to see that much. I think stormer uses stickers because those wings are bland and can't be printed. Stringer looks great from the front. The trans armor was one thing, but the guy has a great shape too. The back will need modding effort. Meanwhile, I am more concerned with the first wave because it just arrived. I got splitface and he is cool. But it seems that they didn't bring Breeze, Rocka and Black Phantom, and that is making me very angry. I didn't notice this with pics, but splitface is so using the Breeze/Samus style armor in his red area. Which is ever so... ...feminine. I am not saying that Splitface looks half male and half female to me, but... err, wait I am actually saying it. Edited June 23, 2012 by vexorian Quote
DraikNova Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I just realized: the new armor piece (the one that comes in purple and gunmetal in Voltix) in orange would be perfect for a Rotor 2.0! Quote
Kalhiki Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I watched some of the Stormer XL review (I stopped at "really horrible build." No one's bashing my man Stormer). The legs actually don't look too bad. But I still want to see what I can do to make him look more like he does in the show. Seeing in hand shots makes me want them even more... Kalhiki Quote
vexorian Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Another thing that bugs me about video reviews is the reviewers. Stormer looks great actually. Definitely the build has more hopes than the Firelord build. Once they perfect the structures at the back and the leg armor this can turn out great. Quote
turtleman2020 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Do you think they might make the hero factory control tower out of system bricks, like the bionicle playsets? And with the new small torso we might eventully see the citizen/worker robots from the TV show. Quote

vexorian Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Mostly because I don't need them, as in at all. I don't need their hands covering what I am looking. I don't need they moving around things and not letting me see them. I don't need their bad lighting. Don't need their voices. And yes, youtube interviews tend to come with extremely lame opinions. CabooseBM Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) Yeah, video reviews, at least in this fandom, tend to be terrible and un-entertaining. Because if you're not entertaining, you might as well just do a picture review. I mean I'm halfway through this XT4 review and we haven't even looked at the figure yet! I don't need they moving around things and not letting me see them. I don't need their bad lighting. Don't need their voices. And yes, youtube interviews tend to come with extremely lame opinions. Those things you pointed out aren't real criticisms, they're qualities of a video review. That's like complaining about pizza because it's pizza, not because of the taste. If you don't like pizza on the whole, don't eat it at all. If you don't like video reviews on the whole, don't watch them at all. It's not the reviewer's fault. P.S. That's pretty egotistical of you to classify reviewers' opinions as "lame". When was it declared that your opinion is superior to anyone else's? It's also a pretty vapid generalisation. Yeah, video reviews, at least in this fandom, tend to be terrible and un-entertaining. Because if you're not entertaining, you might as well just do a picture review. I mean I'm halfway through this XT4 review and we haven't even looked at the figure yet! YouTube gets far more traffic than sites like this, and it doesn't accept pictorial reviews, so it's logical for some people to upload video reviews there. Some folks prefer them. Your criticism about him going over the packaging/parts for too long is justified, but to group that with all video reviews is unfair and just...erroneous, really. Also, pictorial reviews aren't exactly "entertaining", are they? So why do video reviews have to be? Sure, it brightens the atmosphere up a bit, but it's kind of a one-sided argument, in my opinion.
