Mesonak Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Try giving him the (convenient) black 2.0 shield. Another reason why I'm ecstatic that the 2.0 shield is being recolored into silver and black. Both are neutral colors that work with any character to create back armor. Quote
Ceroknight Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hm, Stormer XL seem to look better in LEGO form... Thanks for the video link! Quote
Aanchir Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Stormer XL looks pretty excellent, besides his legs and feet, which are a bit weird. He's not brilliant, but what I do like is that he has large, cohesive armor pieces, so he feels far less pieced-together than some larger sets of the past. What I'm really trying to say is that he fits in OK with the smaller Hero sets. Also, his printed armor (on his left leg and torso) is to die for. Speeda Demon is... OK. The bike isn't totally original, but it is somewhat stylish, and it's great for parts. He himself, again, is a pretty basic build, but very stylish and with a cohesive color scheme. The combi model of Stormer XL and Speeda Demon is really weird (as combi models often are). It's not nearly the work of art that some BIONICLE combi models were, but that's to be expected since it's the first one of its size using the new building system. It does show some imaginative ideas, like the tail, the engine/propellor on the back, and the multiple arms. But the sheer number of weapons and features built onto it, and the lack of cohesiveness between the various parts, makes it feel a bit amateur. XT4 is an enigma for me. Perhaps, if posed better, he could look decent, but he's not my favorite despite his imaginative build. Nex is pretty cool. I get the idea he'll look decent, but he's not one I'm holding out for. Still can't make out the detail of his chest pattern, but I guess that's to be expected. Until high-res pics of Evo were out, I thought his chest pattern was a concrete texture, and it turned out to be a circuit board texture. Bulk is still amazing. His chest pattern is several overlaid gears with their axis lined up with his Hero Core, from what I can tell. Which is, frankly, amazing. His weapons and armor are great. Core Hunter is pretty cool, and has a good deal of personality. Color scheme is nice. Layering is OK. And dang if he ain't intimidating. Voltix still looks cool. Nothing much new to say about him. And Stringer looks cool. It looks like his torso is in fact regular transparent blue (Bricklink's Trans-Dark Blue). Still cool I guess. Overall I look forward to seeing these in person on Sunday. I'll try to take clear photos of their chest patterns so we can see in full detail. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I think you all just wanna see a guitar too hard. (I'm not registering that as looking like a guitar) But I do need some shoulder mounted speaker cannons. Quote
fabioman Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 xt4: I really like it I think when I get him i will add some extra armour core hunter:must buy speeda demon: well maybe I get him just for pieces voltix: needs a little bit of improvement but nothing some purple pieces cant fix stringer: he is a must buy love the guitar gun nex:I will just get him because of the helmet bulk: well i just love it sormerXL: same for speeda demom by the way something I have done to all my breakout heroes is puttig a 2.0/3.0 chestplate in their torso they i`ll lok much better well thats my opinion Quote
Nightcruise Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Core Hunter: I want NOW!!! Stringer: trans blue body plate but I wish those normal blue parts were trans blue as well. Nex: I think I'll just keep the ideal image as the 3.0 version and get it for parts. Bulk: I like the look. Voltix: I do find myself liking the set. Xt4: say hello to the parts section. SD: Same as Xt4, I already have my own ideal bad guy. Stormer XL: Same as above, I already have my own ideal image of Stormer. Quote
Aethersprite Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 The first wave of Breakout sets just hit Singapore. Picked up Rocka today, and I love him! The bandolier wasn't as stiff as I thought it would be, in fact, it's almost perfectly flexible. The hex energy shield is awesome. A pity none of the summer sets use this piece. I can't wait to get the other sets! (I'm planning to space them out, so I won't die waiting for summer.) Now some judgement on the summer sets: Speeda Demon and Stormer XL are okay. Not planning to get either. XT4: Has the potential to be a fairly okay set, but I'll wait for more pictures/reviews before I pass full judgement on this guy. I probably won't pick him up, though. Nex: Yucks. Bulk: I need this guy! Although I'm still not too enthusiastic about the heavy use of gunmetal, he looks okay with it. Nothing some modding can't fix. His chest pattern has definitely got to be my favourite of all the Heroes. Still curious on how his shield/rocket launcher attaches, though. Core Hunter: Am I the only one who can't seem to make out how his helmet looks? Otherwise, nice as expected. I love his colour scheme and the way he's built. Bought on sight. Voltix: An okay set. I might pick him up, but nothing impressive. Stringer: The trans-blue chest is GLORIOUS. The blue armour pieces compliment it well, and his huge launcher looks great. I can see how it resembles a guitar, but I'm not too sure how that works... Anyway, fantastic set. Bought on sight. Overall, I must say that the summer wave does have its plus points, but overall as a wave it looks to be not as good as the winter wave. Quote
Lance Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Stringer is an EPIC WIN in my opinion. Stormer........well, he's alright, but I will probably mod him to be regular(ish) size. Speeda Demon is very well designed, love the lime and gold combination, love the bike. XT4 is Mega blocking awfull. Seriously, I showed my kid, and he was Very disappointing Nex.....eh, he could be worse, but his helmet looks too much like his 2.0 incarnation. Still, pretty decent set. Bulk, well, I can't say I've been paying much attention to him, but he looks nice and Bulky. But definate purchases are going to be Stormer, Speeda, and Stringer. davidr Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Holy mother of the Sweetroll! Finally some clear ... video of these sets! Speeda Demon: Great parts! Purple, gold and the set isn't so bad, too. I missed Furno bike, so I have to buy him. Stormer XL: He's not so awesome how he could be, but he is a great friction joints pack! Just his legs has 3 of them each. And his armor! Wait, I just saw, that he has something like double sided friction joints! Awesome! XT4: I'm not sure about this guy, he's got some custom torso, but he looks like garbage drone which is... weird Nex: You can see his printing and helmet at 1:47 . It would be better if he had printing on his whole torso, there's too much white... His helmet is really nice. Bulk: More silver. Or less, just not one shade just on his shoulders. Otherwise it's a great set. Core Hunter: Maybe basic build, but it's so freaky awesome! Voltix: just remove this yellow tentacle and maybe purple armor on legs instead of the red one. And don't let him find any electric source. Stringer: YAY! Trans blue! And this guitar! I hope, that you can see it now. I'll buy/get all of them anyway, so it's no so important for me how I like them :D . Quote
CabooseBM Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Well, I'll probably be buying all of these. Some of them, multiples. Quote
Jouster Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I like every single one of them. Also, the chest prints are awesome. Especially Bulk's. Quote
vexorian Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Stormer XL looks much better than just about every FL clone. Except perhaps Black Phantom, but I will only know that for sure once I get it. Sure it is not perfect and the legs and feet look wrong. But I think this build has a lot more future than FL's, next year when they polish on that idea we might start getting great large characters. Edited February 9, 2012 by vexorian Quote
optimus99 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 hey guys does anyone have a clear picture of core hunter I still can't see his mask. I think the only ones I will be getting are stormer XL,core hunter, and stringer. I like bulk but I have a tight budget. Quote
Poison Ivy Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Whoah. Core Hunter is amazing, moreso because of his similarities to the Inika. The others are meh, except for Stormer XL. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I think you all just wanna see a guitar too hard. (I'm not registering that as looking like a guitar) But I do need some shoulder mounted speaker cannons. It's true, it's a somewhat rough and unpolished design to be seen as a guitar, and I've seen far better in MOCs. But allowing for the simplification that is necessary in a set Stringer's size to keep it at a viable price point and relatively simple building level, I think the resemblance to a guitar is too strong to have been a coincidence. Besides, what else would it be? It doesn't make the gun itself look much more formidable, unlike Evo's "tank arm". Anyway, Stormer XL certainly seems to be divisive. Personally, I like many aspects of the design, but like a lot of the Breakout heroes I feel there's room for improvement. I think the torso shells on his leg armor would be better off facing forward, like they are in the TV episode clips we've seen. It looks as though the blue armor pieces on his shoulders are regular blue, which will disappoint some people who were hoping for transparent blue parts of some sort (myself included). Watching the video in HD, I realized some of the parts holding up his shoulders are a new bone piece-- a "C" bone (ball cup on each end) that's only 3M with no center ball. This will surely be very useful for a number of purposes. On the subject of new building elements, I also notice that XT4's hips are just 3M wide, meaning that either he uses a torso with a custom Technic structure and the standard "Toa Mata chest" ball joint pieces, or we are getting another new torso beam piece. The small size of his torso makes me think that if he does have a new torso beam piece, it could be useful for everything from smaller-scale characters (think Matoran) to animal companions. Really warming up to Nex, although even in the high-resolution video I have difficulty telling what his chest pattern is supposed to resemble. Just realized that Bulk's giant shoulder weapon, in addition to its two missiles, has two Transparent Fluorescent Green (Bricklink's Trans-Neon Green) lasers. Not sure how fond I am of those since they sort of clash with his color scheme-- I'd have preferred some type of transparent orange or even a less vibrant color like transparent blue, transparent red, or transparent light blue. Or perhaps none at all. Someone asked for a pic that shows Core Hunter's face in better detail. Will this do? On watching the video a second time (this time in HD), I can say with certainty that he looks awesome. He also has back armor, which I'm sure many will appreciate. As with the first wave of Breakout heroes, I'm impressed with these overall, although I feel tempted to mod some of them ever so slightly to better suit my tastes. Quote
MakutaDreadscythe Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Man...that Core Hunter face creeps the heck out of me...those goggles...they're like Furno 2.0's...but...creepy...menacing...I LOVE IT! EDIT: Just looked at the helmet a bit closer. There's actually lots of little eyes, so...spider? Edited February 9, 2012 by MakutaDreadscythe Quote
MakutaNocturn Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I... don't know what to said. I was really dissapointed when I saw these sets. Stormer is not as cool as on the prototype photo. Speedy is quite nice but I'm not sure about his motorbike's desing. XT4 has got really small head and I think he's too mmm... overweaponed? That's a good word XD Let's see. Stringer has got absolutely nice colours. Before I saw him, I had thought that we will see him in black-orange combination but this is more effective! Nice, Lego, nice! I'm still waiting for more pics! Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Whoa... Core Drainer's helmet is... Weird. Looks like a creepy mutant version of Furno 2.0's goggles. ... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. Quote
Shakar Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Now THAT is a video! So much for Speeda Demon and Stormer not being shown. Stormer XL: I love him. He looks very mighty and strong, far more than Rocka XL ever did. The printed pieces are gorgeus, although I would have liked if both legs were decorated rather than just one- then again, they're assymetrical so that would have required extra pieces to print. The feet are indeed new, which is weird for a large set, but I guess they will be reused in 2013- they don't look so big and they could work with canister sets too- bird-like villain anyone? Anyway, I have little to complain- the legs are a bit too small, but I think they work. The dark bley bones I dislike so much actually work for once. The sword is beautiful. My favourite Stormer so far, along Stormer 2.0. Speeda Demon (did I hear "Speeder Demon"? ): little to no complaints, this is a set I can't wait to get in my hands. I feel pedals for the bike are missing however. No yellow Surge swords, awww. I'd like to note Demon's torso isn't covered by a Hero 2.0 torso plate, but a lime shoulder armour shell, the same exact piece used on on Breez 2.0's right arm. Combiner: definitely the best 2012 combiner so far, along a few Winter ones I haven't tried building yet. I won't buy the estra sets to build it, but it is somehow inspiring. But I hope online instructions are published, it seems like a fun build to try out. I really like the wing-like armour from the bike being used on the chest, looks really great. And dat giant double-blade/wheel hybird weapon thing. Unlike many, I feel liking xt4 a lot. He looks so...alien, which very much fits with his weird name. Along the head and (likely, I think) the torso piece, he has another new piece in the laser shooter, which I think looks really nice and I hope to see in more colours. The only things I don't like are the excessive bley bones and the tubes connecting to the torso (I like tu tubes themselves and them being attached to the two weapons, but on the other end they should be attached elsewhere). Nex, not much more to add. I like him, aside from the ever inappropriate bley bones (IMO Heroes should have fully black skeletons, unless coloured bones actually contribute to the colour scheme unlike Breakout Breez). Shame about him not having a single hand. I see a loudhailer is used on his laser weapon, which I think is pretty clever. I wish the laser/antenna was tr. bright green, oh well. I really like his helmet. Bulk looks great. I like the chest printing a lot (which is colour is it? Looks almost like dark tan). Again, my complaints are the bley bones, along the excessive use of titanium metallic. The shoulder mounted blaster has a very weird colour scheme- the silver MTIS rocks, but it uses tr neon green lightsaber blades (they really don't look like they're tr bright green, which is really disappointing to me), dark bley and....dark tan? what the heck, Lego. The best thing about Bulk is that he actually looks bulky for once, but the colour scheme really needs some clean up for him to satisfy my tastes. Core Hunter...I don't know. I like his design (excellent back armour), but the head is so different from what I excepted. I thought (read "hoped") Lego had given up on eye socket-less heads/helmet after Waspix/Scorpio, but I was wrong. It looks unsettling, and not in a cool way. I will wait for better pics. Stringer- awesome! The tr blue torso has been finally confirmed, and it is glorious. I agree with those who said his helmet looks gunmetal- while I don't have the original helmet, I won't mind if this is the case- more recolours are always welcome. Voltix- nothing new to add. Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 My opinions haven't changed really. Now that we've got a clearer look at Stormer and Speeda, I still think they are mixed bags; Stormer has some extremely good concepts, but a few of them aren't executed very well, and Speeda looks astonishing overall, but his design isn't that original at all. Also, that's not the way I expected Core Hunter's helmet to look...but I like it. XT4 still sucks btw. :3 Quote
