 I hate being around corpses! They make me sick to my stomach. It's a sad day to lose our beloved police chief, but to get as far away from the body as possible, I'll ask Brenda Barrett a few questions.

-Do you know if the police were on any big cases recently?

-So you were contacted by a citizen, do you know who it was?

That is all. :sweet:

newsy.jpg

"Big cases? In Lexington? They'd send out the bomb squad for a parking violation in Lexington! There isn't a bomb squad in the town, though, but you know what I mean. And, no, she didn't give her name."

Brenda, could you remember the exact time she called?

Also, I'd like to check whether the hat would've covered up the gash in the chiefs head.

newsy.jpg

"About two hours ago, or so, give or take."

It would not have covered up the gash, since the gash is on his forehead.

Does the Chief smell like alcohol?

Very faintly. The water from the fountain could have gotten rid of the smell.

I'd like to ask the reporter, if she knows about any major imprisonments or solved cases the Chief was involved into. Or if a criminal who was nabbed by the Chief has been released shortly before. Or if the chief had any other enemies known.

By the way, has any citizen a criminal record? Just asking.

"Do I look like a cop? I don't even live in Lexington."

Those records are kept at the police station.

True. Well, maybe we should then pay a visit to the police station somewhen. Can any of the cops answer some of those questions?

Winston was shocked that this murder had occurred in Lexington.

"I've been all over the world and seen a lot of strange things, but this tops them all," he said, mainly to himself as he watched the others ask good questions of the doctor and reporter and also investigate the crime scene. He didn't feel he could contribute anything with everyone doing their thing, so he just made sure he was following the discussions.

Chief... :cry_sad:

I don't understand who would have wanted the Chief dead, it's not like there's organised crime in Lexington or anything. I would have believed in an alcohol-fueled accident, but since there is some evidence of struggle we can't rule out that someone really wanted to hurt the Chief.

So there's nothing on him except a receipt? No money, no papers? Could he have been the victim of a thief?

Does the Chief have any family that we should contact, doctor?

Is someone finally going to take this body to the morgue so that we can find out more about the crime?

And I agree, we should have a look at Chief's papers in the police office in case any clues might be found there.

What a terrible thing to happen in our peaceful town. I've never read about anything like this happening here before. Mom, I'm scared. :look:

Aww, son, don't be. Daddy and me'll make everything better....

This is terrible! This great town hasn't seen a murder since the gold rush!

Mr. Doctor, do you know what a gash wound like that could be caused by? Also, is it on the front or back of his head? I'm too squeamish to look.

Cracks in the fountain?

I'd like to ask everyone here if they remember the cracks were already there before the death. I'd like to know if we can tell if the gash in the Chief's head was made with a blunt weapon or a sharp one.

Ain't it implied that the gash on the Chief's head and the cracks in the fountain were the result of an impact of the two?

There's a considerable amount of blood on the side of the fountain where his head impacted. There's also a few cracks in the stone.

Also, is it on the front or back of his head? I'm too squeamish to look.

It's on his forehead. I saw it when they moved his body.

Maybe he just got drunk and was in the middle of stripping off his clothes the way drunk people do, when he slipped and bashed his head on the fountain? Sounds weird, but it does make a fair amount of sense. Then again, our 'doctor' seems to think it was homicide...

"Do I look like Doctor Magic to you? I don't even know this guy, and you're asking me about his family? And yes, I'll be taking his body as soon as you people are done with your investigations."

"Well, it could be caused by falling head first into the side of a stone fountain. It's on the front of his head."

I'd like to check him to see if he's still having his handgun.

Also, maybe the police should call Mike's Liquor Store again and ask if the Chief said something while he was there. I mean, he spent half an hour in there, he must have said something. And if he was drinking, he was possibly very talkative.

Good idea.

I'd like to call the Liquor Store again, and say

"Hello, I am Officer Jackson, and I'm part of a group conducting and investigation into the possible homicide against Chief McGovern. We need to know exactly what you talked about last night when he was in your store. Also, did you get any other customers in shortly before, during, or after Chief McGovern was in?

I'd like to check the chiefs pockets for his cell phone and his wallet.

The Chief still has both his cell phone and his wallet.

I'd like to check him to see if he's still having his handgun.

After a few rings, someone picks up:

"Hello? Arnold is dead?! This is terrible! We talked last night, and we had other customers in of course but none of them seemed very interested in the Chief. He was rambling from one subject to the next. Any other questions?"

"I'd like to take the body now, if you're finished."

"Yes, thank you, give me on second sir."

Steven holds his hand over the phone.

"Anybody else have any questions?"

"Anybody else have any questions?"

Can you say what the overall tenor of his conversation was? Or name a few topics? Did he mention anything about his job?

Ask him if the Chief had his gun at the liquor store. A missing gun is probably important. And dangerous.

I'd also like to pass these questions onto Mike.

He came in at about nine thirty, alone surprisingly, and paid and left at about ten. He departed alone. What was he doing at a liquor store? Obviously buying his favorites!

I recall the person who spoke to the liquor store owner said that he said that it was surprising the Chief was alone, and that he seemed to be a regular. Did he usually visit the shop with someone else?

I'd like to how deep the water in the fountain is.

About a foot deep

I think that's all, I would like to know if there was a project he was doing at the police station

Can you be more specific about project? Do you mean a case?

I'd like to know the entire content of his wallet and all calls which have been made on his mobile in the last 24 hours

Officer Hutch opens the Chief's wallet, and finds a few credit cards, some money, his drivers license, and a stick of gum. He also opens his cell phone, and sees that the Chief made one phone call to Deputy Chief Scott at 5:30 P.M. and six phone calls to his wife at various hours after that.

"He was rather loud and boisterous I'd say. He talked about a major case he solved by himself, but I doubt that it was true because he was quite drunk at the time, and it was a ridiculous story. Oh yes, he of course had his gun with him. He used it in as a prop in his reenactment of his 'major case' story. The Chief visited the shop with a different girl every few weeks! Sometimes he'd show up with his wife, poor thing didn't know what he was doing behind her back."

doctoravie.jpg

"I'm taking the body now, the coroner and I will be back tomorrow with a full autopsy report."

The doctor gets into his car and leaves as the ambulance drivers take the Chief's body away.

Sorry about my lack of words, this has been a lot to take in. Should we go to the police station now? It seems there's nothing left to do here.

I would like to call his wife and tell her the bad news. I would also like to ask her why her husband called 6 times yesterday and if there was something unusual going on the last couple of days.
