BTappel Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 If there really is Kingdoms and LOTR next year LEGO will officially have taken all my money Since speculating is fun... I am just gonna guess we will get a dragon castle along with some smaller sets including both lions and falcons. Quote

I am just gonna guess we will get a dragon castle along with some smaller sets including both lions and falcons. I was just guessing. My hope is for a Dragon Castle (with a King/Queen/Archwizard/somebody in charge) to somehow be made, but I wouldn't be too broken up if we got a new Falcon Castle instead (hopefully it would come with the aforementioned ruler figure if it is made instead). Who knows, maybe the 2 recent Harry Potter castle sets, the Helm's Deep LotR sets, and the Joust set are pointing to LEGO realizing that a segment of their market wants sets that can combine and we will finally see that feature return to Castle en masse. And I hope they toss that idea because it is repetitive. The skeletons were run by an evil wizard. The Dragons need a monarch, or at least a better wizard if it has to be a wizard. Quote

Phyre Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 How about some wild speculation? We have a few details to consider. The reply said Castle, despite the question saying Kingdoms. Then we have a lack of Kingdoms news for 2012 thus far (in fairness, maybe it's under wraps, somehow). Now throw in the Black Falcon figure in the Joust set. Maybe this all points to a return of Castle, not Kingdoms, featuring the Black Falcons (and presumably at least one other faction). I know that's just speculation, but what you're saying would involve Kingdoms merging into a new Castle theme by way of the Black Falcons... I don't think that's ever happened in a theme before, where a new faction was introduced and then it became a different theme altogether (there were no Knight's Kingdom characters appearing in the Fantasy Era sets, and no "Crownies" appeared in any Kingdoms sets). That said, I do think a new Castle theme might be a possibility, since the reply did say "Castle" and not "Kingdoms". That could also explain the rumors that Kingdoms is finished. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. That guy posting the summer pics on youtube said that there were no castle sets besides LotR, but he also doesn't have any Marvel Superheroes pics. So perhaps LEGO is trying really hard to keep the new Castle sets a secret like they are with the Marvel sets. Quote

Seriously, I think being led by a wizard is a nice alternative to being led by a traditional king/warlord/... Quote

Nicker Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Considering Harry Potter sets were marketed alongside a continuing Castle line of sets gives some weight to the idea that Kingdoms may continue alongside the LOTR sets. When the supposed rep mentioned "Castle" in his answer I think he was referring to Kingdoms and any other Castle themed line that may follow Kingdoms. If Kingdoms continues for at least one more wave of sets for 2012 that will make me a very happy camper! Quote
DarthSion Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 That makes no sense, HP is sci fi fantasy, kingdoms is medieval, its like saying star wars was marketed along side pirates. Quote

Seriously, I think being led by a wizard is a nice alternative to being led by a traditional king/warlord/... Sure monarchs are reptitive, but in an expected way, if that makes any sense. You expect a kingdom to have a king or queen (and I would be fine if their leader were a queen) just like you expect them to have soldiers and knights. But, I am fine with a wizard too. I just wish they had a better one, like one with a torso print and maybe not a beard (like every other wizard). I'm thinking something regal looking that incorporates the Dragon symbols and colors, yet also illustrates that he is a wizard so he would be a wizard-king (although as a fan of Dark Sun I prefer the term Sorcerer King) Maybe he could even have the crown in silver instead of gold, or perhaps a translucent color to represent crystal of some type. In other words, if he's the leader spice him up a bit. Quote

Black falcons would be an awesome addition to the current kingdoms line. As for LEGO... perhaps they have been able to keep us in the dark about new kingdoms sets by distracting us with LOTR! Before the announcement, I would have been more surprised if kingdoms continued than if LOTR came out. Maybe the LOTR confirmation was all just an elaborate ploy to hide the real surprise next year - an awesome kingdoms line! At any rate, there has been so much epic news lately it is making me dizzy. General Magma Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I'm just going to show up here and say that, just like during the things about POTC, this could just be a misunderstanding. I have the feeling that they just meant that the current sets won't be discontinued in 2012, not that there will be new sets to be released. I honestly can't see LOTR being released along with Kingdoms. We've seen pictures for most of summer 2012's themes, if not for all of them, but Kingdoms was missing. Don't get your hopes up guys, it may just turn out to be discontinued after all. ~ General Magma Quote
AndyC Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 If Castle continues (and the statement from Lego pretty much confirms it will) then it doesn't really make sense to move away from the Kingdoms branding. The only real reason to do so would be if they were moving away from traditional castle roles back to a fantasy like setting, but that's clearly not going to happen with LotR running. In any case if they did brand the theme differently again, it's still going to follow the essential aspects of Kingdoms, so there's little to worry about. Quote

But the way the TLG woman said that castle "continues" in 2012 doesn't mean new sets. Quote

Hopefully, we might still see some tiny Kingdoms sets in the first HY. Edited December 20, 2011 by Ardelon Quote

With the great kingdoms sets we've seen, I really hope kingdoms makes a comeback. Same here. As with many licensed sets, they look more like something out of the old LEGO Studios theme than actual structural sets with interesting builds. Kingdoms shall be greatly missed if it's really gone. lightningtiger Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 We can be hopeful about Kingdom's continuing, as we haven't seen the next wave of POTC or the new system sets for the Avengers movie.....I must check that youtube page again. Quote

But the way the TLG woman said that castle "continues" in 2012 doesn't mean new sets. Indeed, someone from TLG said something similar in late 2009 about the continued availabilty of Indiana Jones in 2010, and it's clear now that simply meant the already-released sets would continue to be available for at least a while into 2010, not that new sets would debut in 2010. It's also possible the response here about "castle" continuing in 2012 was referring to The Lord of the Rings without mentioning it by name (since it was a big announcement that hadn't been officially made at the time of her response), which certainly has more than enough overlap with the content of traditional castle themes to justify it (as evidenced by EB's own assignment of the theme to this same subforum dominated by castle discussion). I believe the Joust set will be the final hurrah for Kingdoms (but not for original, non-licensed LEGO Castle themes in general ). Edited December 21, 2011 by Blondie-Wan Quote
pjschard Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I really hope they continue with NON-LOTR Kingdoms, Much more interesting IMHO Quote
Teh Stud Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I don't mind LOTR replacing Kingdoms. I have plenty of bricks so I like new figs, horses, etc. I will miss the peasant themed sets. We were finally starting to see villages, windmills, etc. I was hoping for some more variety. Quote

Wait...were getting Avengers and Marvel? I really hope they continue with NON-LOTR Kingdoms, Much more interesting IMHO Same. There's no restraints with Kingdoms as there is with LotR(to an extent). With Kingdoms, they could make the castle look like they want it to, make any civilian set(s) they see fit. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Wait...were getting Avengers and Marvel? Where have you been? Yes, TLG's new "Superheroes" theme isn't just for the DC Universe, but the Marvel one as well; they announced getting both the DC and Marvel licenses on the same day, back in July. Starting around May of next year, we'll get sets based on the Avengers movie(s) and the classic comic book versions of X-Men and Spider-Man. Confirmed characters include Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Loki, Nick Fury, Wolverine, Magneto, Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus and Deadpool, and I'm sure more will be on the way eventually if they aren't in the launch sets.
