andhe Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Confirmed characters include... Nick Fury... and I'm sure more will be on the way eventually if they aren't in the launch sets. Guess this will bring Samuel L Jackson into the two lego characters club (assuming they are based on the movie version Nick Fury, but not the hasslehoff version :P). Sorry off topic. Without doubt the focus will be on the LOTR licence, but I wouldn't be suprised if we saw a few smaller Kingdoms/generic castle sets in the Autumn. Assuming they covered areas not touched by the LOTR/Hobbit stuff. May be an opportunity to do some more civilian based things, as opposed to the more conflict based LOTR stuff. Castle is one of TLGs core themes (along with Space and City) and will always be there, if somewhat diminished (like the Mars stuff etc when Star Wars first came out). Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 A cold chill fills the air with me saying this, I have now the first half catalogue and there are NO kingdom's sets at all. I wonder if Lego Australia could clear the air if I give them a call.....but knowing them these days I wouldn't hold my breath. Quote
Vindicare Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Where have you been? Yes, TLG's new "Superheroes" theme isn't just for the DC Universe, but the Marvel one as well; they announced getting both the DC and Marvel licenses on the same day, back in July. Starting around May of next year, we'll get sets based on the Avengers movie(s) and the classic comic book versions of X-Men and Spider-Man. Confirmed characters include Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Loki, Nick Fury, Wolverine, Magneto, Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus and Deadpool, and I'm sure more will be on the way eventually if they aren't in the launch sets. I knew about Marvel, that's why I said it in my post. I saw the promo figs as well. I figured we were just getting a mish mash of sets featuring one or more figs in a set. I didn't realize it was based on the Avengers movie. Quote
Piranha Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Curious, as a reliable source mentioned that there were no Kingdoms sets nor any non-licenced new Castle theme sets coming next year (besides the Joust). We will wait and see... interesting indeed Quote
DaleDVM Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Well... the Kingdoms theme has been gone from the LEGO shop website for several days now. I hate to be the adult at the party but... I think it is time for people to come to the realization that Kingdoms is over. The joust is a good sendoff for the theme. Like many on this site, I too wish generic castle was continuing. I have been collecting it from the beginning and have almost every set ever made in this theme. In fact it is the only theme I collect extensively. However, I will be buying LOTR too. It is very similar to castle and in the end will be considered a "castle" theme by a lot of AFOLs. By the time it is done LOTR is going to have several castles, walls, towers, and gates. If we are honest with ourselves we all know that LOTR will sell like hotcakes. It will run atleast until a bit after the 2nd movie release which is DEC of 2013. The DVD will come out in the summer of 2014. I would expect LOTR sets to continue atleast through that date, and likely to Christmas of that year. That would give us 6 waves of LOTR sets. There is plenty of material in the 5 movies for 6 waves. Realistically, I am not expecting any castle theme until 2015. I know TLG could surprise us but I find it very doubtful. The two lines just wouldn't sell well along side one another. Quote
Weil Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Well... the Kingdoms theme has been gone from the LEGO shop website for several days now. Thought I would mention that the Kingdoms theme is still listed on the LEGO site and S@H for Europe. Though if it's dissapeared from the US I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it dissapears here too. Other than that I agree with most of what you say. Quote

I expect Kingdoms to go on clearance any day now. We got the exit-list at work earlier this week and all the Kingdoms sets were on it... Quote
DarthSion Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I would also like to point out S@H AU has the kings joust listed as a release date of 26.12.11 so its still there for us Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Don't know if this has been posted, but the Kingdom Joust is listed as $119.99 in the 2012 LEGO catalogue I got yesterday. There are 5,575 parts, too. Nice price-per-parts value. Quote
october Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) 5,575 parts? Are you shure? I thinks it is 1,575 parts. And it is not a big deal it is more expensive than the MMV wich has more parts 1601. Edited December 23, 2011 by october Quote

DaleDVM Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I just checked and Kingdoms is back here in the USA. However only 2 of the old sets are still listed and they are marked sold out. The joust set is also on that page. They may have taken it down for a couple of days to remove some of the items and to add the joust set? Either way the sets are going going... Quote
Elander Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 If Kingdoms really ends -than I hope for a ancient Roman/Greek theme. Quote
enlighter Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 If Kingdoms really ends -than I hope for a ancient Roman/Greek theme. Sincerely hope Kingdoms isn't coming to an end... The medieval theme has been such a staple in Lego's for so many years... :: ( Quote
DarthSion Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 If Kingdoms really ends -than I hope for a ancient Roman/Greek theme. Have you read this thread?, if kingdoms ends it is because of stupid lotr sets. Although I wish TLG would talk to starz and give us a Spartacus theme. Quote
SilvaShado Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I don't mind LOTR replacing Kingdoms. I have plenty of bricks so I like new figs, horses, etc. I will miss the peasant themed sets. We were finally starting to see villages, windmills, etc. I was hoping for some more variety. I liked where Kingdoms was finally going with the peasant sets. I didn't like much the first few sets because they were bland to me. I've never been a big fan of Lion Knights or straight Castle. What I mean by that, is that I liked the fantasy styled castles more than the medieval castle. Kingdoms really felt like a rehash of older sets in my opinion until they started getting into the village life. That I wish would continue. If Kingdoms really ends -than I hope for a ancient Roman/Greek theme. That would be so very cool! But more realistically, they'd do that kind of theme on its own, probably with an adventurer's twist that would water it down. I was so excited about Atlantis until I found out it wasn't going to be much mythology... :-( I'm going to buy LotR, but it doesn't really replace Castle for me. I'm hoping, but not holding my breath, for a return to fantasy castle or even into new factions like with the Falcons. I just can't imagine that LEGO would give us one new figure in the Joust and not follow-up with a series of sets with that faction. But who knows. Sometimes I really don't understand their decisions. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I agree, pity we aren't seeing more peasant sets, there is so much Lego hasn't touched yet that could still fit into knights and castles....it took smiths of all kinds for an army to be built and supplied (and not just in weapons neither). Could Lego be again hiding things from us....perhaps....I call it the waiting game. Quote
Hellingly Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 If Kingdoms/Castle does continue in 2012, I doubt it will go down the fantasy route as it would be too close to LOTR. I love Castle, but I could live with a break for a couple of years if we got a Roman or Western theme instead. A decent Roman theme would be my favourite ever :) Quote
Nicker Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Just as we haven't seen any of the LOTR sets yet for 2012 there could also be a few Kingdoms sets coming around the same time that we haven't seen pictures of either. I can only hope. Quote

_Oceanblue_ Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 My opinion is that apart of Kingdoms Joust there will be no more Castle/Kingdoms sets in 2012. However as long as LOTR/Hobbit wave is running, I dare to guess that still Lego will not forget the Castle/Kingdoms fans and in next forecoming years will flatter us with an exclusive set. My personal wishes would be as follows: 2013 - A mountain Taverna Inn with lots of landscape, greenery, well and new animals - bear (fm the City sets), rocky goats ( well known fm Mill Village Raid) and some wolves. 2014 - A fortification under siege with siege towers( 2pcs), long ladders and battling ram, which perhaps can be the connection with the sets for year 2015, when I would like to see the Black Falcons in full power. Today is Christmas, so I'll make a wish. Cheers and happy celebrations. Quote
Hive Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 A nation-wide chain here is having 50 % on all Kingdoms sets starting December 27 - due to them being discontinued, they say. So while not being official, it's close enough for me: Kingdoms is dead. I'll be going to the nearest store in hope of getting Mill Raid and Escape from Dragon Prison before it's too late, which I fear it already may be... they had none left on their webshop at least. Joust set coming now and then LOTR sets next summer but then again I wish Lego will make some Castle/Kingdoms small sets and/or a bigger set for christmas next year. On the other hand Kingdoms theme has dissepeared from Lego official shop. So maybe this is the end of Kingdoms Edited December 25, 2011 by Mencot Quote

Bobkov Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I was at Walmart (U.S.) today and was able to pick up the rest of the kingdom sets that I didn't have, which included all the most recent ones, for 50% off. While double checking the price at Lego to make sure it wasn't 50% off of a 20% inflation or something, I noticed that none of the kingdom sets are listed under the main category anymore; only a keychain and the Joust: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-ByTheme So it appears that (more or less officially) at least here in the states the line is done.
