This is what someone posted on the Kingdoms section of the official Lego message board:

"emailed customer service seeing if Kingdoms is going to be around still or if its going to the archive like all the other great sets. the following was my response

"The kingdom series is hugely popular! as you can see by all the sold out sets! Don't worry I believe it's here to stay even with Lord of the Rings making it's fantastic big debut. Thank you again for contacting us. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reply.""

and

"I have confirmation that Kingdoms will continue while Lord of the Rings is out.

L-A-M-P <<<, returned from retirement "

I believe it was HP, but I read something like that before on here... It sounds like a scripted answer to keep people. The answer alone is dumb, look at the first two sentences...it's sold out because they took them down...I don't know, I certainly hope they aren't gone.

I just got a reply on Twitter from the Lego Group. I asked: "@LEGO_Group Is the Kingdoms line finished? Or are we going to get some new sets in 2012? I love LOTR, but Kingdoms brought me back to Lego!".

The answer was: "@gustavobrauner Hi Gustavo, Castle will continue in 2012 and we just launched a new Exclusive to the line ow.ly/8jG9e".

As you guys can see, the link directs us to the Kingdoms Joust. Aware of my mistake, I then asked: "@LEGO_Group Question: will the 102323 Kingdoms Joust be the only release for Kingdoms in 2012?".

No answer so far, but they haven't answered me yet...

Exactly, besides the movies are done, SW does well because they started when the first movie came out, then had 2 more movies and a TV series to keep it going, I mean look at it most of the sets are CW meant for kids which is why it does well because kids nag their mum and dads to buy them, how many kids are going to buy toys from a movie almost a decade old with no on going media to entertain them and make them want to buy it.

LotR will be dead with in 2 years if that just like most licences themes.

Don't forget that the LOTR trilogy will come back to the theater in 3D. And The Hobbit movies have a great deal of cross over appeal. However, I do think LOTR and The Hobbit movies appeal more to AFOL and TFOL than kids. But, if you think about it, one need not be a specific fan of the media in order to be a fan of fantasy, knights, castles, etc. So, I suspect a lot of general fans of Kingdoms will certainly be interested in LOTR as well even if they know nothing of the stories.

So frustrating! Nice try though. I doubt they'll respond with specifics, because that would be revealing a future set, and they try not to do that. Please update us here if they do respond at all, though. I wonder who is on the other side of their twitter feed: a marketing person or a customer support person.

sounds like generic response, I hope LOTR fails and is one and done. :classic:

Well I certainly think otherwise. If you are a castle fan then there's no need to worry for Lego can continue the two themes together at the same time, there is no need for either to be discounted. Then again I reckon many castle fans shall stop buying the sets when they see how amazing the LOTR sets are. Already the first wave is looking spectacular, just compare it with the current kingdom sets and you shall see the amount of detail the LOTR sets contain when in comparison with the kingdom sets and we only have the preliminary images. So you can just imagine what the final images will look like. As for LOTR not lasting, I hope your not serious because I see so much potential within this theme. There are so many different characters and locations Lego can bring to life using such an exciting, beautiful world that is middle earth. Forget about Lego star wars for lord of he rings is here (let's just hope the LOTR sets aren't as expensive as the star wars sets).

Oh they will be. Don't you worry about it. They need to make their money back on these licenses.

Honestly I do not care how expensive they are as long as they are really good. Quality > quantity.

I've been collecting Castle/Kingdoms since 1986...they've always survived somehow. There have been periods of time where they disappeared or got downright silly (yes, I'm talking to you Knights Kingdom II 2004-2006), but they were never retired for good.

If Castle/Kingdoms survived Potter, they sure as hell will survive Lord of the Rings. In a perfect world, they would run simultaneously, because as a builder, it would be fantastic to have those kinds of sets and bricks available at once.

As fans, let's not let Lego Castle die...and let's not let another license kill off, or replace a classic theme like Pirates of Caribbean did.

I would like to point out that Pirates still has a smaller audience than castle and doesn't sell as well either where as castle tends to have a fairly large following and the fan base for LOTR is huge so I think that it is quite possible for the two themes to co-exist. That being said, we had a fantasy theme then we had a more historical theme and I personally would like another fantasy like theme.

Same, I really liked the fantasy theme figures. Some of its sets were, eh, but others were just plum awesome.

I'm a big fan of the LOTR and also be an big Lego fan and I wasn't all that impressed by the preliminary images of the LOTR sets. They look just OK to me but nothing I would want to buy myself or consider above average for a Lego set design. I highly doubt these sets will change much if at all from the preliminary images we have already seen since any prelim images of other sets I've seen in the past never changed much if at all. There is no doubt that these LOTR sets will sell fairly well but I have my doubts that they will sell much better than Pirates of the Caribbean sets and won't sell as good as the Star Wars sets. LOTR is a good franchise for Lego to sell for a limited time but I think it's revenue stream and profitability in the long term is limited even compared the Castle themed sets.

I have to agree that a large number of LOTR sets could be designed since the movies have so many great scenes and locations but the main problem is that many of the scenes and locals in LOTR are large in scope and complexity which can be very challenging to simplify into a good Lego set.

Just isn't my thing and yes I am serious in just lasting one year. I have not seen the images yet but if I want overly detailed figs and sets I buy SW. I like my castle generic historic and beauty in the design of a set. Spectacular is a point of view what some view as amazing others view as average. I don't think there will ever be a license theme that ever touches Star Wars IMO.

I prefer classic LEGO themes over a license any day. Compare POTC to Pirates, it has boring set designs, too many repeat characters, poor sellers that ended up in the bargain basket everywhere. The set designs were all very poor and lacking.

LEGO Star Wars is a strong act to follow. LEGO Star Wars has been in existence for 14 years now (no end in sight), has prospered due to 6 films (3 that were released in conjunction w/LEGO sets), a successful cartoon series that's been on for 4 years (and counting) and video games (weren't too successful in LEGO form). With the track record of recent licensed themes (Indiana Jones, Prince of Persia, Pirates of the Carribean....), I'm very skeptical as to how well LEGO Lord of the Rings will fair. If it lasts 3 years I will consider it very successful. I have my doubts about it lasting longer than that.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Lord of the Rings. It ranks in my top 2 favorite movie franchises of all time (a distant 2nd to Star Wars). Whenever I come across Lord of the Rings on tv, I watch it, and I'm prompted to get out my DVDs and watch the other films. I just can't see this theme lasting as long as some people believe it will. The Lord of the Rings was extremely successful. I have my doubts about how successful the Hobbit will be. Really I hope I'm wrong. Only time will tell.

I get it, you're a big fan of LoTR, but really? You can't even see the details of the sets. So far, I see nothing that compares to MVR. And, forget SW? Seriously. There's not a chance that's going to happen. No theme will overtake SW.

Not everyone is a big SW fan like you. Personally SW is OK to me but I have never been a big fan. Now LOTR on the other hand is like the perfect fantasy franchise for me. Now, I am not saying one is better than the other but, that they are just different. Also, when looking at the Helms Deep set I see a lot of detail in the design of the wall and in the overall set and I would like to point out we still haven't seen the Orc workshop set yet which, could very well be an exclusive set like Diagon Alley. All I am saying is that I wouldn't judge the theme to harshly yet when all we have seen is the first wave of sets and just preliminary pictures at that. :classic:

Yeah but lotr is only popular with people who inhale red bull on a daily basis as they are the only people who can watch it without being put into a coma by its ridiculously overdrawn out story.

Besides look at it, only 1 license has done well star wars, hp has done fairly good and that is because it a movie series made for kids with kids, where as the hobbit is made for fantasy fans with adults pretending to be midgets, and ultimately aimed at adults.

I've never imagined that anyone could think that way about the LOTR films. They were perfectly made and I don't drink red bull. LOTR is more for adults but children love it as well. Star wars the original trilogy wasn't made for children but they love building the lego sets from the films.

Ok, so... Do you guys remember what my last question to Lego was?

"@LEGO_Group Question: will the 10223 Kingdoms Joust be the only release for Kingdoms in 2012?"

Here is the short answer they gave me: "@gustavobrauner Yes"

So that's it guys.

No Kingdoms in 2012! Nothing! This is so sad!!!

Goodbye kingdoms but it isn't all bad because we have an even better theme replacing you.

Saruman the White, I think you are a little biased... we haven't even seen the sets yet.

Personally, I grow tired of licensed themes. They are always made up of scenes from movies that don't really fit together well, like the Captain's Cabin from POTC doesn't fit with Cannibal Escape, and the Venice Canal Chase from Indiana Jones doesn't fit with the Temple of Doom. With a theme like 'Castle' or 'Pirates', at least you know that you can build all the sets together and it will always make sense.

Ask them if they are continuing Harry potter.
