Jipay Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I made the same request once upon a time and it seemed the cooperation Europe/USA wasn't as good as the Europe/Europe one |-/ Hope you'll get more chance on this one !
gylman Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 As a Canadian, I run into this quite a bit. Many sellers ship only nto the US. However, it's not that they have stuff that no one has in Europe, or on Bricklink. I doubt there is a single such case. But for sure sometimes it is cheaper. However, I think that when you include the extra shipping costs involved, it would get kind of crazy. I did this once for Mattzitron with Batman sets, and I was stunned at what he ended up paying for three small batman sets. Of course Canada Post shipping costs are prettty crazy sometimes, but still the US postal service is not so different. Copmike can you give a particular example where it would have been worth it to do this? I don't mind trying to help if I can. Oh, and one other thing. A lot of those US sellers who won't ship outside the US also will not take a Paypal payment which is from outside the US, and which is not from the same person to whom they are shipping. It has to do with PayPal insurance protection.
Jipay Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Well ebay is getting more and more complex... I doubt that it's any good for them ! As for Lego being cheaper int he US, it's a fact, believe me. Even with shipping costs (at ground rate) it's still cheaper X-O
SuvieD Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Anyone needing a shipping address for the US is welcome to PM me and request to use mine. I may not give it to you but for more established members I see no reason. I would prefer to ship only monthly though, so if that is a problem consider asking someone else. Monthly shipping will allow people to buy mutltiple auctions/bricklink orders anyway and save on shipping overall.
natelite Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 i can attest to that. shipping from us to europe can run from $20 and above. just check the rates from www.usps.com. shipping from europe to us is a lot cheaper. i once ordered from BL and the shipping (ground) from europe was almost the same as priority for US local. unless you are buying a rare item, i think shipping cost will probably make it slightly more expensive than buying local. us has some crazy shipping rates. i wanted to ship lego to my niece in toronto (i live near new york, fyi)...so i thought it would be cheaper if i buy locally and ship to canada myself. turns out, it is actually cheaper to buy the inflated canadian lego set and ship locally in canada. it cost me $18+ to just ship parcel (cheapest option) to toronto...less than 8 hours drive from nyc...while it cost like $7 to ship to california which has to be by flight. :-/ doesn't make sense now does it?
dunamis Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Depending on how often the need is, I'm definitely willing to help out our established members on this. I'm not on the SS list here, but I am on FBTB (under Dunamis.) Also, I'm not sure if it matters or impacts the cost of shipping to Europe significantly, but I am in California so keep that in mind. Is this a weekly thing or twice a year type thing? Don't let that one set you've been looking 10 years for (and the seller only ships within the US) slip away, I'm sure I can help you out. PM me with details
CopMike Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 Hi again! First a thanks to SuvieD & dunamis *sweet* !! I will look into the thing mentioned above about sellers that won
Jipay Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 just for the record 20 dollars mean around 12-15 euros. For big items it would cost around the same in Europe. So it's still cheap |-/
