Hi, I was building the lego 8109 in recent days with my own parts and found an interesting thing. Because of the lacking of the 2010 new part 87408, Black Technic, Pin Connector Toggle Joint Smooth Double with Axle and Pin Holes, I decided to find the way of replacing. It is so easy and seems to get the same effect. So I wonder if it is necessery to use 87408 here?

There is nothing keeping the two long beams in a fixed distance, so to answer your question - this is sooooo going to slip. You could still reinforce it with transverse beams, without resorting to 87408.

it's only part of the structure. two beams will connect to other parts in further building.

Interesting thread.

The picture you show is a good example that most of the new parts do not bring new possibility but make current possibilities easier.

Only parts like LA's, frames, IR receivers etc bring new possibilities.
