If my little sister were here, she could pull the water out of that mud and give a refreshing drink this morning.

QM Note:

If you want water, you could always keep digging until you have a well. :sweet:

Traveling to R'Kilf is a lot easier than traveling through the Mopag Forest. I never realized before how much I love roads as opposed to trails.

Night is a lot less stressful here, and once again, nothing notable happens. We should see R'Kilf later today.

All of you, please state any actions you'd like to perform at this spot.

De'kra clicked, "Path to R'Kilf fast, less foes or-yes Mopag Forest. Who lives at R'Kilf? What heroes and I need to prepare for encountering the natives? Any tips you have?"

Posted

De'kra nodded, as he was ready to continue on. Still, the short shade wondered what the residents of R'Kilf would be like. The denizens of one city was made of elves, and Mopag of pink skinned creatures. So would R'Kilf be dominated by one particular race?

The road to R'Kilf is easy traveling. Getting into the village itself proves to be more difficult.

Approaching R'Kilf, a pair of elves, Brobric Elves, walk out from behind some trees and rocks, swords drawn. There are only two of them, but they move with the practiced grace of experienced warriors.

"That's far enough.

"We've heard numerous rumors of Lion Knight activity in R'Kilf. It's in the best interests of the Brobric Elves to ensure that the invading scum are driven off Uland and out of the Free Islands, therefore, we're stopping every traveler coming into and going out of the village. I'd turn around and go back to Mopag if I were you."

De'kra marvels at the speed and grace of the elves, so quick yet so well controlled. The shade decides to keep quiet for the moment, since he can not tell how they would take his accent. He had to talk in Heroica, as communication with his fellow workers was inevitable. But here it might only damage relations with the elves.

Well, as luck would have it, we're after these Lion Knights, too. And frankly, I've got no interest in trekking back to Mopag, much less through that forest. Now, I've got no notion of starting any unnecessary trouble, but we do have business to attend to here. If you're really that concerned over our being here, then personally, I'd invite you to accompany us for the duration of our stay here. Surely, if the two of you fancy yourselves strong enough to deny us entry to the town on your own, then you should have no problem restraining us if we get ourselves tangled up with any more opposition. But one way or another, I plan on having myself a warm meal in R'kilf by sundown.

"I wouldn't expect anything else from a mere barbarian. Do you really think we would be dumb enough to leave our posts to accompany you? How do we know you don't have a squad of Lion Knights coming after you to infiltrate the village in our absence?"

Hah, so you two elves came here expecting to fence off the town just by yourselves? And here I was under the impression that elves were supposed to be wise beyond their years... Surely, there are at least a few more of your kind off-duty in the village right now? What if they were to keep an eye on us? Heck, I'd even offer to stand guard here with one of you, if the other cares to monitor us.

Way I see it is, either there's enough of you stationed here to handle any commotion the Lion Knights (or we, if you're going to be stubborn) could stir up, or there *aren't*, and you'd be in trouble if a squad of Lion Knights came, either way.

De'kra nods at the guards' words, as there was a logic to them. "Elves have point," he clicked softly to the group, "Guide, you have symbol of office? Elves might know of raids on you people, realize heroes and I not foes. Or not safe for you, no show it. I not know political landscape, you might. Sorry for speech bad."

"Don't make the mistake of underestimating the Brobric Elves. There are many of us throughout R'Kilf, but they have to patrol the outskirts and watch activity in the buildings."

"I don't, unfortunately."

I don't mean to underestimate you, I just can't quite follow your logic, as you might expect of a dimwitted barbarian such as myself. Thormanil stares the elf dead in the eyes as he says this.

If your numbers are truly stretched so thin here that you can't spare even a single guard nor scout to monitor our activity, then I fail to see how you hope to defend the village against any possible Lion Knight aggression. Unless the two of you expect to hold off an invading force on your own, then you'll have to draw forces from somewhere, and that will leave other areas unattended to, which is just as dangerous as leaving your posts to keep us in check... There seem to be a fair few holes in your plans, as I understand them. But I'm no wise elven tactician. I'm sure you have everything under control. Thormanil smirks

Turning to the party, he shrugs.

Perhaps Sir Leo could persuade him. I don't think I can stand this high-and-mighty much longer without resorting to more.. barbaric means of negotiation, and I doubt that would help our cause very much.

De'kra nodded, and wondered how to proceed. In all honesty his interactions with Sapient races had never gotten so complex. To the group he clicked, "You think elves think that Heroes and I distraction clue or just distrust? Maybe Lion Knights use disguise? Also, heroes and I know elves no like strangers, they will not work with outsiders like Lion Knights. They not heroes and I enemies, not now. Heroica and Elves fight each other, Lion Knights win. But Heroica and Elves help another, Heroica and Elves win. Not battle, could still trade information. Maybe ask elves why they choose to guard R'Kilf? Other places like Mopag forest attacked, why protect here? Maybe in exchange for knowledge, heroes and I give lion dagger, might heroes and I kept it. Elves might learn something of dagger we not learn."

"You are partially correct. But do you really think we would disclose our plans regarding R'Kilf in their entirety? Besides, it's a lot simpler just to keep you out than to escort you."

Hearing the elf's response, Thormanil whips back around, prepared to pull out his blades and fight his way in:

Easier to keep us out, is that what you think?

Thinking better of it, he decides not to try to engage the elves. Instead, he grabs Sir Leo by the arm and drags him forward, presenting him to the elves, changing his mind about letting the knight do the talking.

Y'know, your acquaintance up in Mopag was right about you. Hard headed as they come. Warned us we'd likely have trouble getting past you. Now, as I mentioned, we have business here. Aside from our own task, we agreed to assist in the transfer of this Lion Knight prisoner down here from Mopag. Thormanil indicates the insignia on Leo's shield and armor. We were told to take him to the address... he stares into the air for a moment, as if recalling the instructions... Ah, 1138 Block Lane. Said there'd be a cell waiting for him, and someone to pay us for our trouble.

Thormanil pauses, waiting to see whether or not the elf calls his bluff.
