Brickdoctor Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 You attempt to enter, but the door is firmly locked.
Darkdragon Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 "Tomas, does the note say anything about a password or other entrance?"
Brickdoctor Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 "Tomas, does the note say anything about a password or other entrance?" It doesn't. "This shed usually isn't open, and the volunteers are very firm about not allowing any one else to use it."
Darkdragon Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 "Hmm. In that case perhaps De'kra, you could pick the lock? I hate to break down the door, as that seems like destruction of property for no good reason at this point."
Tanma Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 De'kra nodded and approached the door to try to make his way in. Hopefully he would be actually able to contribute to the others for once, instead of failing epically in a fight.

You attempt to pick the lock, but evidently, your lockpicking skills aren't as badass as Atramor's, for the door remains firmly shut. "...like I've been saying, access usually isn't granted to these sheds. If anyone was using them, they'd have to have payed a lot of money to do so. This shed is weathered too uniformly and heavily to have been broken into and fixed."
TheBoyWonder Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I try to chop it with my sword. If it fails, We must go further on our Journey I think.
ADHO15 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 "Or Cinna or myself could try using magic to open/break down the door."
Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 I try to chop it with my sword. If it fails, We must go further on our Journey I think. You swing your sword down towards the door, but it only embeds itself with in the wood and is stopped with a clang of metal hitting metal. "Or Cinna or myself could try using magic to open/break down the door." You fire off spells towards the door, but about a foot away from the shed, they stop short and dissipate. "What's in the barrel?"
Tamamono Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 You fire off spells towards the door, but about a foot away from the shed, they stop short and dissipate. "I suppose the shed is protected by magic." "What's in the barrel?" "That's a good question. I'd like to to look in the barrel."
Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 "That's a good question. I'd like to to look in the barrel." You see that the barrel is about half-filled with water. Inside is a torch that was clearly hastily extinguished in the water.

"That's funny... I would like to examine the torch for any markings and, if possible, try to determine when it was put out."
Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 "That's funny... I would like to examine the torch for any markings and, if possible, try to determine when it was put out." You feel that the torch isn't warm, so it wasn't used very recently, so unless someone carried a torch around in the day, the last time it was used was probably no later than last night. You examine the torch. It's heavily weathered, but one can faintly make out the remains of what was a bat carved into the side. It's obvious that this torch at one time belonged to the Shadeaux, or was meant to look like it did.

Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 "Mr. Shawe, can you tell if this Shadeaux insignia is legitimate or not?" "It would appear to be. We use these torches in our buildings all the time. We get them mass-produced by carvers elsewhere in the free islands. The higher-ups don't like showing off their wealth the way the Hinckwells do, but they apparently like their crest on things like torches and towels."

"I suppose that means that someone from the Shadeaux was around here last night. Although, there is still the possibility that someone else was using it."
Flare Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 "Hmmmm..." Benji fires an arrow into the barrel.
Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 "Hmmmm..." Benji fires an arrow into the barrel. You shoot an arrow in the barrel. Almost in slow motion, the projectile flies straight and true. Your heart pounds in your chest, and then... *thump* The arrowhead embeds itself in the wood, and absolutely nothing happens. You waste 1 Ammo. You now have Unlimited Ammo remaining. "That was rather anti-climatic."
Tamamono Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 "I would like to examine the barrel for any markings or insignias, and then I would like to pick up the barrel and see what's underneath it." "Also, I would to compare the torch in the barrel with the one currently burning."

"Also, I would to compare the torch in the barrel with the one currently burning." You examine the barrel, but it's devoid of any markings, as is the currently burning torch, which otherwise looks just like the one in the barrel. There are some various bugs underneath the barrel, but nothing else.
swils Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I think we should check the surrounding park for any man-eating foliage, check the trees to make sure there aren't any giant birds waiting to swoop down and carry one of us off for dinner, and poke around the bushes to ensure there aren't any giant rabbit or squirrel holes. It's no forest, but that doesn't mean there can't be evil wildlife or fauna! Hahaha! Really though, I think we should either hang around til nightfall, or come back after dark and see if there isn't some activity here.
Tamamono Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 You examine the barrel, but it's devoid of any markings, as is the currently burning torch, which otherwise looks just like the one in the barrel. "So there are no Shadeaux markings on the burning torch at all?" Really though, I think we should either hang around til nightfall, or come back after dark and see if there isn't some activity here. "That's a good idea, Thormanil. If anything illegal is going to happen at this shed, it's likely to happen at night."
Brickdoctor Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 "So there are no Shadeaux markings on the burning torch at all?" No.
posades Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I agree, it may be best to wait unseen in the nearby forest and see if anyone returns during the night.
Brickdoctor Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 You decide to stay to watch the shed throughout the Night. About three hours after sunset, two men, one in a grey cloak trimmed in blue and the other in a brown one showing hints of something bright red underneath, meet in front of the shed. They converse in hushed tones. "-the Shadeaux should get their hands out of this mes-" "-n- -atter, all I care about is the Brobric Elves, now. They're probably just upset about that weap- -ash they got tricked into bu- -ing." "I'm o- -o Bric'Lin, then." The two depart just as quietly as they came.
