CorneliusMurdock Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 While party is here, do any of Cronk's friends have any ideas what Mr. Cleric means when Mr. Cleric speaks gibberish? Any ideas are welcome to Cronk. For those of Cronk's friends not with party at time of saying, this is what Mr. Cleric say: A Ace Refill Owlish Ill Wilt Orzo Quote
Zepher Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) "When the Cleric said what?!" asks the Cleric in shock. "I never A Ace Refill Owlish Ill Wilt Orzo crazy?!" "That's right," laughs Hans viciously he turns to the others: "Let's get out of here... Wren has fried his brain and he's useless. Leave no man behind but those too slow to keep up." "She got some strange letters in there..." observes Felton. "Maybe there will be more clues later? Keep your eyes peeled. Aren't you folks from Heroica supposed to be smart?! I heard you had a library." "Who the hell is Phil?!" asks Phil, still miffed that no one has answered his question. "Why did Lady Wren say Phil?!" "A Ace Refill Owlish Ill Wilt Orzo," say the Cleric. Hans spits. "Please stop, that is disgusting," says Felton. "Also, where the hell did Garrison get off to?" Edited November 1, 2011 by Zepher Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Perhaps I should ask you, Mr. Barbarian Contestant, what is your name? Quote
Khorne Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 The anagram was driving Eric crazy. Even though he's more intelligent than the average Barbarian, he just couldn't solve the puzzle. The feeling of helplessness and not being in control of the situation that struck him time and time again when trying to crack the anagram tired him down and annoyed him greatly. On the bright side, though, the party did find their lost companions back. "I sure hope we do get to find some more clues for this wretched anagram," Eric said "there's just no solving to this thing. It could be anything if we don't know what to look for!" Eric fumbled a piece of paper from his pocket. It was scribbled full of ideas pertaining to the riddle, but none really made sense. "Does anybody here know a word with a 'Z'? I can't really find any, exept for 'Zoot'. Do you guys think the 'III' is a number or just three times 'L'?" Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 The 'lll' is actually 'Ill', 'ill' capitalized. For the 'z' I noticed 'zero' and 'zeal' (and 'zealot' and 'zealots'), in addition to words that have the 'z' in the middle, such as 'haze', 'craze', 'raze', and 'faze', and there are words ending in 'z' such as 'whiz'. I also saw the letters required for 'witch', which seems to fit Lady Wren, but I can't make any meaningful phrases. Quote

"Of course, how could I not have thought of the words you listed. Thanks for the heads up, Docken" Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 "A Ace Refill Owlish Ill Wilt Orzo," say the Cleric. Thothwick rubbed his forehead. He was quite good at puzzles and riddles, but anagrams? The answer was literally right in front of him, but he couldn't see it for the life of him. "Where's Byblos when you need him?" Quote
Peanuts Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Not being raised very culturedly, Henry had never had any bearing with riddles and that stuff. It just wasn't his profession. He knew almost anything about archery, pike squares, strategy and tactics, though, but he loathed anagrams. "As I said before, I never liked anagrams. Or riddles. Or anything that doesn't involve alcohol, blood or money. But I think the caps are meant to be the first letters of the words. If they aren't, well, I'm screwed. But I never liked anagrams anyway. Sophisticated hogwash!" Quote
Khorne Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 As the party members were all caught up in cracking the anagram, none of them suggested where the party should be headed next. Eric was a man of action and solving riddles was not his field of expertise, he wanted to move on. "Where are we going now? Exact revenge on that devious hag?" he inquired. He spat on the ground at the mention of the word 'hag'. The Norse warrior cared little for cowardly magic tricks and hocus pocus. A true battle was fought with a blade, toe to toe with the enemy. CorneliusMurdock Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Cronk still trying to figure it out. Maybe "seize" is Z word. "Heroica" or "Hero" may also be in there. That as far as Cronk got. Cronk will think about it more as party walk. Party will return to hallway in which party find missing friends and then continue forward. Quote
Zepher Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) The party progresses to the prison room. They try to walk down the next hallway, but are unable to. A barrier throws them back. Lady Wren once more whispers in each hero's ear. "First off, I would like to congratulate the barbarian and the knight for actually using their heads. Even though Cronk uses the third person, he's still figured out one of the words. Maybe I was wrong to not pick him as my favorite. Eric says he hates mind games, and yet there he is whispering names that... send shivers down my spine. OooooooOooOOOooo." "Secondly, I hope you did not think you were done making choices. You must leave three of your party behind, in this room. And at least one of them must come from Heroica Hall, and not have already been locked here! Make your picks!" CorneliusMurdock Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Maybe Cronk should have only mentioned one word, then Cronk would know which word right... But, Lady Wren, if party fight way to freedom, what will happen to friends left behind? Surely Lady know at least Cronk would never leave a friend behind to stay in lousy arena? If Lady give assurance those friends be safe and be released if party earns freedom, party will consider party's options. Of Non-heroica friends, Cronk think Hans or Phil better in fight than Felton, no offense, Friend Felton. Of those, Hans better against group but Phil better against single foe of high health. Which of those would be better depend on what we think end fight be like. Would any friend want to volunteer to be left behind? Quote
Sisco Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 After a few long moments of consideration, Jess makes her choice. "My father always tried to teach me to be honest and heroic. I haven't fulfilled his wishes. I ran off, became a rogue of sorts, living off the land and stealing whatever else I needed. But Father's gone now. He never lived to see me join Heroica. I'll stay behind. Perhaps he'll look down on this, and smile." Turning her back to the rest of the party, Jess closed her eyes, and whispered: "I'm sorry, Da. I hope I can still make you proud.'' He spat on the ground at the mention of the word 'hag'. The Norse warrior cared little for cowardly magic tricks and hocus pocus. A true battle was fought with a blade, toe to toe with the enemy. Ehem, I did mention that not a few minutes ago, Eric. Hybros rolls his eyes a little. Of Non-heroica friends, Cronk think Hans or Phil better in fight than Felton, no offense, Friend Felton. Of those, Hans better against group but Phil better against single foe of high health. Which of those would be better depend on what we think end fight be like. Agreed. I think we should leave Hans and take Phil. I have a feeling that we'll be facing one tough enemy soon, after you all defeated the groups of guards. And even so, we could use another Barbarian in case he breaks into a frenzy. After a few long moments of consideration, Jess makes her choice. "My father always tried to teach me to be honest and heroic. I haven't fulfilled his wishes. I ran off, became a rogue of sorts, living off the land and stealing whatever else I needed. If you're sure about this, we'll get out of this mess and come back for you as soon as possible. "Hah! Damn it all if I have to sit in one of those cells again!" Hybros thought to himself. Quote
Zepher Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 (edited) "Ooooooooof cooooooooourse your friends will be safe. Just like the Cleric will be. I need you all for later events of course! You Heroica folks are invaluable to me! You can always trust the good to do what they think is right! You're predictable and it's helpful. I wouldn't dreeeeeeam of hurting any of you. And tell you what. If any of you give me... three of your health points, I'll tell you how many words are in a anagram, and for a cost of more one health, I'll tell you one of the words!" JimBee Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I hate to be playing this wench's games, but fine. I'll offer four health points in exchange for the number of words and one of the words. Quote
Zepher Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 "Oh Hybros, you're a dear to play along! I'm so sorry to put you in that cell. And that my people decimated your people so long ago. I wasn't actually there for that, but my boss told me how it happened. So sad." Shocks rack Hybros' body and he loses four health. "Six words! And the first of them is the name of that lovely Hall that you come from!" Quote
JimBee Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 We already knew that one, but of course you like to play games... Quote
JimBee Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Ehem... I guess taking a guess wouldn't hurt. Would it be... Heroica will follow its ill raze? Probably not right... Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Cronk applauds Hybros for taking the initiative but perhaps it would have been better to wait and see who party decided to leave behind before deciding which friend to sacrifice health. Cronk not sure if Jess should be left behind. Give Cronk a minute to think. Quote
JimBee Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 OOC: Sorry. I just want to solve this, and got caught up. I wasn't thinking. Quote
Zepher Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Ehem... I guess taking a guess wouldn't hurt. Would it be... Heroica will follow its ill raze? Probably not right... "My that's pretty!! I shall use that in the future! No, no, that's not it at all. But it's so pretty that I will confirm that your second word is correct as well! And the general feel of a phrase is right too. Hybros you're a lovely little fellow I hope you come to play with me some other time too!" Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Cronk got it! Cronk got it! Mr. Cleric's words say: "Heroica will fall. Zoot will rise." Quote
Zepher Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Small helmet like cookies rain down on Cronk. Along with them comes a small black glob, that lands in Cronk's hand. "What you have there is called Zoot's Play Thing. It may only be used once, and will become a weapon with a power equal to the user's level. You may pick the type of weapon, but it may once formed it can never be changed! You may not sell or give it away, it knows who you are. Also, here's the catch, you must use the name Zoot when naming the Weapon. And it WILL help me keep an eye on you. " Quote
